View Full Version : Internal damage linked to visual damage?

Does anyone know if there is a direct correlation to true damage on the aircraft and the 'generic' damaged displayed on the aircraft? As we all know, if your plane is showing signs of visual damage, then you are for sure experiencing some realized damage in terms of degraded performance etc. However if you take hits and there is no visible damage is it safe to say your plane hasn't sustained any real damage?

In my experience, no. Although visual damage is a good indicator of damage inflicted and area caught with the damage, visual damage still doesn't represent actual damage 100%.

also you can get damage to crucial parts of the plane without any visual damage whatsoever.
apart from cable's that shouldn't be possible

The game just displays a bit of a damage texture.tga when you get a certain level of damage in a certain area. The visual damage modelling is not dynamic in any respect.

You can modify these purely visual damage effects if you have the talent or inclination. I started looking at the 109's primitive effects, but haven't gone too far with it. I don't have the talent for photoshop like some people. I did make a start on the bullet holes though and was able to place higher resolution ones in the default locations. Later I hope to change the silly craters to a more believable size and contour. All FM/DM would remain untouched of course. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Oh no. I wish I hand`t looked. That takes the mystery of 4-5 years blown out of the visual damage modelling. I don`t mind mods, but I didn`t need to see exactly where the damage is all represented in a hacked kind of way. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Aren't there some scrambled default damage effects that might be fixable?

More to the point though, is there some way to straighten out the LOD's?
