I am planning to buy Pacific Fighters, and i'm wondering if you can go through career mode as a P-51 Mustang pilot. Any ideas?

Don't do it!

Buy Il2 1946
it includes PF and much much more. Lots of P51 action as well.
Check out mission for today for more P51 missions and careers.

Mission4today.com I think, better google it.

I know of just one campaign that lets you fly the P-51D over Japan during 1945.I haven't flown it,but I think that since it takes place so late during the war it wouldn't be a very long campaign.

Pacific Fighters ships with flyable P-51B and C models and two variants of the D model. As I recall, the upgrade patches add at least one more variant of the P-51C.

As far as flying them in the stock PF campaigns, their availability is limited. I just looked under the US Army fighter career option and the P-51D isn't available until 1945. Perhaps Mustangs are available in other campaigns; I'd guess they might be available to the RAF as Mustang IIIs. If you know how to edit the dynamic campaigns you could always 'add in' the Mustangs where you want them to be an option.

For the money you'll spend on Pacific Fighters, I fully recommend you search out IL-2: 1946 instead. It includes all of the content of Pacific Fighters, including the maps and campaigns, plus about twice as much more. 1946 does not have any more Mustang campaigns than PF by itself, but you'll also have Normandy, Ardennes, Berlin, Romania, Burma and Italy maps (plus many others) that can support user-made campaigns and missions set in other theaters. Top that off with "Battle Over Europe" dynamic campaigns from JustFlight.com and Enjoyr's unofficial user-made dynamic campaign patches and you'll have ETO-themed Mustang, Thunderbolt, Lightning, Spitfire, etc. careers set in Western Europe.

Also the Pacific P-51 mission that are there are also "airstart". You don't get to fly the whole mission. You don't get to takeoff or land, which for many kills immersion. It certainly does for me! I'm a purist so not being able to takeoff or land is a deal breaker.

Yeah get 1946 for sure. You get a ton more planes than just Pacific Fighters, plus all the user-made P-51 campaigns and such that you can download.

Get IL-2 1946. It includes all of Pacific Fighters plus 100 or more additional aircraft, twice as many maps and more objects for the same price. It really makes no sense to buy Pacific Fighters.

There are some pretty decent third party P-51 campaigns around. There was a great one back a while ago that used the Gulf of Finland map so that you really could get a pretty lengthy mission from start to finish. Might be worth looking up for some of you!

its worth getting IMHO. some missions can be rough on older systems. like escorting 20+ b17's lol. but still very good. you also get to fly germen campaigns as well. only thing missing that i would like woulda been p38 campaighns
