<S>,
Just wondering what the rest of the crowd here thinks about the new patch? I know that not all the FMs were improved from v1.0 and some of the bugs still need addressing. Overall, I think the patch is pretty decent start.

Casual problems I've noticed:
Muzzleflash still arcade like during daylight hours.

P47 still porked at all altitudes(roll rate & damage model). I don't think the altitude needle is present in the gauge for 10k+ ft.

Destroyed planes burn on the ground way too long(causes some lag).

Tea kettle sound on the jets during flybys still present.

Even w/ all the data presented about the 190's cockpit, the bar is still very much in the way.

These are just some little things I've noticed since I've downloaded the patch this morning.

Overall rating for v1.1b: A honest 7 out of 10.

Way too early for me to say but gfx are a bit better - sound is still buggy though the quality has improved.

The fact that the patch has given me stutters. Would make me give it a pretty low score. No matter what else it added. Smooth game play is #1 on my list.

I prefer to wait, is everybody so happy, when FB came out a lot of TECHINICAL NASA engineers who post in this place(dont forget the real ww2 pilots, who post here too) said things like "The game is perfect, thank you Mr.Oleg" and Stuff like that. In the same way i think will be wrong right now say "this patch sucks".

Lets go play and see, this patch its a Beta and we are all testting it right now, help the Oleg get in to a final version.

So far I rate the patch very highly. Sound was a problem at first but some very simple tweaking soon fixed that.

A quallity job all in all from what I can see/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I thought we were rating the patch.

My initial grade is a solid "B".

(possible "A" if the stutter thing gets fixed)

So far it is a 9 out of 10 for me.

It gave me four new planes to fly that were castrated before.(Jug, p40, I16 and I153)
Graphics are better
AI is better
AAA is more tolerant
Sound is better.
New campaign

Oh yeah, it was FREE!!!!!
Love it.

5-10

I like the dust clouds and water wake the plane causes, the fms seem alot more realistic now with the exception of the 108 strength and a few of the 190 fms where you can do these stick yank manuevers like your riding on rails.

I give it a low rating becuase I lost 20fps and am suffering some really bad sound issues that i havent before and i no longer can even play on excellent and get 40 fps i get low 20s which is a horable change to go to from 60s

Great patch....working well for me. IT'S FREE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! (and I have a life outside of FB, believe it or not....this is not life and death stuff, just an inexpensive and very high quality game...even without the patch...)

its not a game, this "game" went way past that in alpha stage, or at least in the leaked beta for il2-1 i played like 3 years ago, One-time i went to the left on take-off and ripped off my left landing strut/gear on the tower and the plane started flying weird, and then after the mission i had to come in on 1 gear and that was really cool cause all other "games" would have just showed me blow up in a fireball the second any part of my plane hit the tower, thats why this product is a sim.

If the AI weren't still happy to bounce off one another, I'd give it a 9. As it stands, I can only reasonably give it a 5.

How did you get stutters Buzz? On the top of the line rig? Kinda strange. I still get spawn pauses, but less then before.

Hmm, why is my post crossed out?

I've been flying FB more this afternoon and my rating still stands...however, I'm thinking of giving it a slightly lower rating. The AI doesn't seem to have improved at all in the campaign. Also, I did a fps test and I'm getting slightly lower fps than the v1.0. It's only by 5-7 fps, but the fps have been lowered somehow.

I really hope Maddox games reads these posts. I find honest opinions interesting.

solid 9/10

I like the new effects plus the whole thing seems to run more efficiently for me now. I just played a mission where there wre 20+ planes which would have been unplayable for me before (I need more RAM) and it was lovely and smooth - dunno why but something's changed.

Overall, I like the changes to the FM and from what I can tell, so far at least, a lot but not all of community's gripes have been listened to. And as someone said above; it was free!

Sound is fine on my system (onboard nForce sound on ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo)Graphics improved,non-sniper flak,AI has less faultless aim but not dumb.

All great....BUT>> its screwed my joystick.(MS Sidewinder PPro 2 non-FFB)It now has an intermittent 1-2 sec input lag which makes flying at low level and aiming at any height a bit of a lottery.

If I can't fly whats the point of it all.I'm giving serious consideration to a reinstall and leaving it non patch until these problems are sorted.

If it had left my joystick alone I'd give it 8.5 as it is I give it a disappointed 2.5 !

Well right I'd have to I'm loving it .My game no longer freezes, and I haven't had a comupter crash yet.To those who are having problems when they haven't had them before I would suggest checking out the readme files on the patch especially if you have an ati card,The readme files says use the 3.4 driver to avoid problems. I hope that helps.

I like the patch. I only have a problem with the throttle. I can't get some of the aircraft to throttle, back especially the P47. Other than that little problem it's great. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

XyZspineZyX
08-14-2003, 05:31 AM
7 or 8 out of ten for me. I like most changes, but hate the
wimpy 262 and the stupid AI pilots that still try to take off a 262 on only one engine and run 5 miles on the ground until they crash. 262 has almost no zoom climb anymore.
I like that finally cannons will hurt the I-16 but MGs still don't do much to it. Before nothing would touch it though, as if it was made of both diamond and titanium material. Now it's only titanium so it's getting to be a tiny bit vulnerable. I love the smoke plumes from downed aircraft that last a long time, nice!!!

I had stutters to after i installed the patch until i looked at my video mode, The patch had switched me to OpenGL, OpenGL gives me alot of pauses & stutters, 90% of them went away after i switched back to DirectX, Funny thing is OpenGL ran great for me on the Original IL-2 game.

The long lasting smoke from the crashed planes on the ground causes stutter. Of course it does!

In the readme-file for 1.1b it says that recomendet system is at least 2.4 Ghz and 512 mb memory, with that system I am sure the long lasting smoke will cause no problems.

If you have 1.2 Ghz CPU THEN it will eat capasity at your computer and result in stutter.

Some bugs were fixed. while even more new bugs appeared.
Some FM and DM fixes were made, but even more FM and DM problems appeared.
Some useless "eye candy" effects were added.
Sound is different now, but no less weird.

I'm just glad that there are no significant changes with

But again, this patch is just a "public beta"...

for me 2 relative small errors still exist:

-) dust clouds still form in rainy conditions (the eyecandy kind)

-) in training, you still cant 'take control' in training missions like in IL2

I hope Oleg will come with a new patch which will fix these things also + maybe some more enhancements for speed/smoothness.

Superb! Having the 190s, 109K4, 262s and P-47s fixed really makes a difference. It seems to have added a few bugs, but has fixed a lot more. The only ones disappointed are the raving 109K4 fans who don't like having a K4 that flies like a K4.

I have to give it a 9 out of 10 -

8 of that for the sound only - the sounds frigging rock in the game now -

I have noticed better performance

Currently have every setting set to the max - running at 1600x1200 32bit (only thing that is not set to the max is the Landscape -perfect? or something like that)

Good job on the BETA patch developers -

I have to stress that this is a BETA - expect some problems

I disagree, Before the patch attacking ships & airfields was like attacking the Death Star, It was a suicide mission, Now at least you have a chance to survive.

OK, just upped my rating to 9/10 after two nights of flying.

E-fighting's back and FMs are more plausible overall with even power-on stalls modelled pretty well. (thanx to Jaeger, Joe, Frey, TweetPuke, and Snip for the explanations)

The one point is subtracted for the sound issues, (only particular objects and not very severe at my end - no fps hit, only dips to 70% of volume) the longish take-off/landing runs (possibly related to inertia, small price to pay for the latter finally getting modelled) and a few isolated FM imperfections:

- 190 super-roll above 500kph
- P-39 still a tad too fast
- P-47 roll-rate too slow (I concede, I'm a believer /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )
- Me262 fix may have gone too much in the other direction

These are of course only my opinions, and I feel that they are not big enough of a deal to cry about.

ROFL - good one.

I give the patch a 6 'cause it's easy to dance to, but I don't much like the sound, think the eye candy will soon get old, and wonder was the roll rate on the Jug/FW this bad/good?

And the spawning stutters - like OMG!

The patch is in improvement over the original FB. The new FM forces the pilot to take his energy state into account, so flying intelligently should actually pay dividends again.

There are a few problems which have already been mentioned above. The messed-up track recorder bothers me more than a bit.

Back to topic: Still flying the patch and just have one question: Was the p39 that good? I mean I can clean house in that thing now. It may have been an fluke or the other pilots were just plain bad on the server, but I was blasting pilots in their fw190d w/o trouble. That D9 was a piece of cake to bring down in the p39 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I must say too, the me262 seems to have been neutered some. No numbers here, but it just seems to be less of a threat now compared to other planes.
