I couldn't agree more with Recon's sentiments. Moving objects in a DF server would be the MOST important improvement to the online experience in IL-2FB/AEP/PF as far as game play is concerned, IMHO. I realize that many out there have issues with various a/c FMs and DMs, plus the odd complaint about the view out of the cockpit of this, or that airplane, but as far as overall game play is concerned, the DF server is extremely limited without moving objects on the ground, or at the very least, ships in the water.

As for the notion that these moving objects would limit FPS, how does that jive with the fact that in a coop they don't? Up until just very recently, coops and DF servers were limited to the same number of folks.

If moving carriers in a DF can't be done, then what about putting wind DOWN the deck at 34knts. As it is now you can't get off a static carrier with any decent load on for a mission and it makes them fairly pointless to use IMO. Sure would be nice to have this implemented

What? Moving in circles?
A moving carrier would really whack fps. They are killers in coops, especially if you add AAA, the complex angles of all those monitors viewing one moving ship (bigger than a plane) would drop rates to unplayable- and most of us have nicer high end PC's, the real HIT would come from that guy with dial up and 512 megs of memory, just sayin'.
If you like moving stuff, fly with us on Co-ops!!

Disagree Hawgdog, though I'm not a programmer and don't know all the ins and outs of doing this. That said, we fly all the time in coops with multiple carriers, DDs...etc. And it doesn't kill our frames. And, they're usually full coops to boot.

I'm talking about enabling some sort of race track like pattern, or at the very least giving some kind of wind down the deck that would emulate the effects of a carrier steaming into the wind at full flight ops speeds. Seems a waste to not be able to use them to their full effectiveness in a DF server.

Change the weather in the DF map to blind or rain/snow and you'll get your cross winds alright!

There is no excuse for not having moving carriers in the dogfight servers. It is done in other online servers like Fighter Ace 2. Grant you that is a online server, but with the limited amount of players in our servers I don't see a problem. In a dogfight sim who cares whether it steams in a continuous rectagle. It would make it more difficult to hit as well. If FPS is what one is worried about limit it to only the carriers can move. It is rediculous that you can't take off with a realistic loadout.

Really really is. DF servers make up a goodly sized portion of the online play of this sim. A real shortcoming.

Which direction? Only problem with this is that your ops always happen in the foulest of weather.

It also doesn't matter which direction you point the carrier in a DF server. With foul weather selected, the "wind" will always be across the deck! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
