They are the same game, although people do have their favorite theaters.

First Theater of the game is neither of those. Russian Theater, still the least done in flight sims.

The last time I looked, the Eastern front was in Europe M_G, though I suppose this depends on who's side you are fighting on...

I've always found offline Pacific theatre campaigns (or at least the DGEN ones, which are all I've really tried) to be a little unsatisfactory - there always seemed to be a problem with scale, and/or gross mismatch of aircraft types. I suspect that this is nothing to do with any fault in the sim, but instead a reflection of the realities of the Pacific war - if the 'Knights of the Air' stereotype was misapplied in the European context, it was even less relevant in the Pacific theatre. Battle weren't won at the front, but hundreds of miles behind, through logistics. Not an ideal environment for an air combat simulator...

How far East does Europe go?

Vladivostok?

It was always an ideological/cultural border, rather than a geographical one. How far do you want it to go. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

The eastern geographical border of Europe is the Ural mountain range.
Just FYI.

The MTO is great too, probably still counts as western front.

I agree completely, my Rufe dynamic campaign was fun until it had me going up against Hellcats and Corsairs that even a regular Zero would find difficult to deal with. But I still prefer the Pacific theater for online stuff and offline user-made campaigns. Torpedoing and dive-bombing are a blast.

I have to say ETO, 1943-1945, Daylight Bombing raids. There i find my two favourite US aircraft, the B17 and the P47.

Mudmoving with the good old Sturmovik is what the game was originally built for, and is still what it does best.

PacificFighters is probably interesting for those who get a kick out of enormous expanses of blue water (i.e. not me).

I'd again rather express myself about when rather than where. Early scenarios are much more fun for me compared to late war ones, regardless of the location. Early monoplanes FTW!

If forced to answer the original question tho, i'd pick the theatres of war in this order:
1. Eastern front
2. Mediteranean
3. Pacific
4. Western front

Pacific scenarios blow. Oh yay! More water!

^Not any more boring than climbing to 30K feet to intercept stuff, really

Wherever planes with swastikas on their tails go down in flames.

West front always interested me the most. Then east front and PTO would both share a second place for me. MTO/africa comes last, though I like all of them

I don't like doing that either, which is why I prefer the Eastern front. It was vast, expansive, and brutal.

In order of preference:

1. Eastern Front - Like na85 said...

2. Far East, China/Burma Theater - this is the one area where IL-2's plane and map roster is seriously lacking.

3. PTO - Just an excuse to fly F4Fs and F6Fs!

4. ETO - For everything else, really.
