Hi all,

I recently found an excellent research document about RAF Culmhead (RAF Churchstanton up to 1943) published by the Airfield Research Group for Somerset County Council. It contained so much interesting and potentially useful stuff for SoW:BoB that I emailed it to Oleg. He concurred in his reply which led me to think that some of you lot might be interested too. So here it is.

PDF about RAF Culmhead:

http://www.somerset.gov.uk/media/098/B8/AHH_Culmhead_print.pdf

Home of the Airfield Research Group:

http://www.airfield-research-group.co.uk/home.htm

And finally a pic from the Airfield Research Group site to whet the appetite:

P51 doing a loop over No. 4 Hangar at Watton 1944.

I can't wait for BoB and have the feeling that I'll enjoy it all the more from knowing that I (might) have had some input into it however small.

RedToo.

Good stuff mate http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

In this post I have included nine photographs I took of those very four hangars at Watton back in January this year. You can read what was happening to them at that time in my 'Airfield Hunting' thread, here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/6901086994?r=6901086994#6901086994) which I update occasionally as a friend an I work our way around the sites of Hunts, Lincs and Cambs.

There is more of the same in this thread, (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/4851046184)which were more of the same sort of photos that I stuck in my very first post in these forums.

Anyway, Back to Wattons four Cathedral-esque hangars.......

Oh - just to add, it looks to me more like the P-51 is about to fly over hangar number three. the first photo here is looking out the back of hangar number two at number three)

Cool, thanks! My dad's farm is just down the road from the airfield, and i can remember the huge aerials of the listening post that it became after the war. Great reading!

I wandered threw this and the other related threads and found it quite interesting...thanks

p.s. Does anyone remember the episode of "the Avengers" where John Steed goes to the reunion of his old flying squadron and everyone disappear's. Stead and Mrs. Peel spend the whole episode looking around the empty airbase...
