View Full Version : Is it worth going back to the I-16??

Used to use it all the time in IL2. A real killer.
But wasn't to keen on the implementation of negative G stall in FB.
I know this created a better simulation but couldn't get used to flipping the plane over and pulling back for the a dive, rather than just pushing forward (which now kills your engine).
Haven't flown it in its post patch state yet. Is the FM unchanged? Is it still just as sensitive to negative G stalls. Is it worth mastering the art of avoiding negative G?
Was a demon in IL2!

I heard the warp core was removed and a simple P&W jet engine was installed, hence you can now restart in mid-air. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

That's great news!

It is indeed, I might actually set foot in the beast now that it is no longer a UFO. Chaika's going to be fun too... I remember first day in FB 1.0 I went to try it out. Killed 4 109's and a brewster on my first outing without breaking a sweat and had ammo to spare. Now I may be an OK pilot but that was just BS!

Now I can return to flying it without any guilt.

You do have a bit more of a fight on your hands in I16 now. I was using it on Campaign and those Bfs take more work to kill. The negative g thing is not too bad. I find it`s the speed and it`s inability to climb much. If a bf doesn`t want to be caught, it won`t be. And th AI know it!

Catch them in a turn fight or deflection and the mg/ cannons make mincemeat of them /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I have killed 4 in one solo mission this way.

p.s. oh and watch for the stalls, though for me it`s becoming subconconscous now,,,

much tougher - that climb is definitely gone.

one characteristic that I feel is missing is it's acceleration.

We talk about turning with the rata so much, but it was described as having good acceleration as well.

It was formidable.

So you want a plane that is nothing like the real thing?

Go play on your X-Box

Don't be cocky!

You think you're flying real planes on your PC do you?
They're simulated.

It's a game!

Oleg thought it was realistic when he first modelled it and he was well aware that he was creating a game. You can call it a simulation but it is also a game.

I don't have an Xbox.
I have a PC, it's better...
Xbox couldn't handle something this good

Flew the P.11 (an old FAVE) and the I-16 last night, online. Man, I love those planes. The P.11 will make a comeback when everyone finds out how nice it still flies vs. the Rata and 153, less guns but handy little platform.
I bombed a base
tip: AI anti-aircraft will ALWAYS attack the first plane into their hairspace, and leave your dumass alone...until the first plane is down or leaves the area.
dropped some P-tabs on the whirblewind. Yes I got pounded, but now...thats NOT the point of flying the wing is it?/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Not being cocky. No I don't think their real planes. But I would rather it was as accurate as possible.

For the record I do have an X-Box http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I prefer my PC but 4 player Fusion Frenzy is a blast.

Sorry, thought you were being funny with me. My apologies...

A fair point that you want them to be as real as they can be, perhaps how they should have been when FB first came out.

It's good that the game is constantly being developed with the patches, but it upsets people when they have gotten used to a particular flight model only to have it corrected and changed in a later patch.

Meaning you have to learn to fly that beast again and learn it's new limitations.

I'm not terribly upset about the I-16 being a harder bird to handle, if anything it will add to the challenge.

Just wanted to hear peoples experiences with it because I have not flown it for such a long time.

what are you talking about?? For one its "they're", not "their". Two, are you aware of how many died at the hands of the Rata?
For the record, whats Xbox have to do with the thread?

Took Chaika for a short spin last night & i like it. Got into a flat spin because the stall actually requires some reaction now. Teh in air restart is great -but someone said if you do htat once you can't kill the engine again. ??Not sure but why don't you test this-don't know when i'll have time to fly next .

Long Live the Cute Planes!

& Turn Fighters are Fun!
