One for the offline campaigners, what enemy AI plane makes you want to run away when you realize what they are.

I mainly fly Luftwaffe & the LA7 I 100% hate when I come up against them in anything, & I break into rapturous celebration when ever I manage to shoot one down.

When flying for WS I find FW190 is a frikken nightmare 4 cannon 2 machine gun & that saw action

FW-190. If he 'catches' me with burst... well I can always hit refly. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Also any American planes is scary in PTO if I am flying Japanese planes (especially mid/late war), also one good burst (if I am careless and not checking my six, AI usually misses me in first burst so it gave away all surprise).

In early 109f4 campaigns when I see a full hand of i-16's flying co alt or even in advantage, I know that soon after I try to get one's 6, green tracers will buzz around my head.

One of those German planes with cannon with the blue tracers.

Bumping into 4 109F4s in an I16 alone. Nearly every mission of this kind I`ve had I`ve usually been destroyed or crashlanded in desperation!

I had actually forgotten about my encounters with Ratas. Before patch 4.01 they were a nightmare to face, when on there 6 they would generally barrel roll straight over the top of me & make my day hell. I found they were the worst plane to face because they dragged you down to 50m or less & then stunted all over the sky. Since 4.01 They tend to explode alot more readily

Almost anything with a rear gunner. I-153s and I-16s are a pain in the @ss, but I have yet to see one make shots through his own airframe from 800m to take out your engine with a single burst, and I'd much rather be hit by a quartet of wing or nose mounted 7.x mm MGs with a realistic 'spread' than a single pintle mounted gun which always takes me or my engine out.

cheers

Those veteran/ace Zero's are a challenge to keep in your gunsight.

Pre-patch in our Malta campaign it was definitely the Cr.42s which gave me the most headaches. They could outturn and keep up with our Hurribus Mk.I's in a straight line, very scary indeed. Post patch, our Hurribuses are more than a match for them.

Dunno 'bout scary, but an I-153 (you) against a bunch of AI buggers in Gladiators is great _FUN_ I'm telling ya http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And yes, at ace level they do get you sometimes...

If I fly Axis I'm generally flying a Fw-190D-9, but if I can't, it's either a 109F-4 or a 109G-6/10.

Allied I fly planes like the P-40, P-38, SBD, and FM-2.

Afraid of:

Fw-190 head ons
Turning power of Japanese planes if I am stupid enough to burn energy.

THERE IS NOTHING WORSE than seeing a P-47 dive on you from 2000 meters higher and seeing his bullets just rip right into your plane. Now that thing looks like a beast bearing down....

Coming up on a flight of four He111's in anything is my nightmare. You are usually toast anywhere inside half a kilometer. No matter how you approach these pincushions, you are going to be in someones sights.

And, as we all know, Germany perfected laser guided AI bullets specificaly for it's bombers.

Sometimes at night I wake up screaming.

What enemy AI fighter gives me nightmares? Nitemares is a very strong word, I wouldn't use it do describe the experience. But besides almost any armed to the teeth fighter, glued to my 6 and pouring in ammo while me being Low&Slow... I'd say The P-47. The sight of this shining monster falling down on me makes the hairs on my back stand in awe http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif I've heard that the K-4 climbs like a homesick angel. Well, then the Jug dives like a H311 bound demon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

CR-42s. I'm getting way better at knocking them down in my Rata/Mosca but they can still take a pounding before blowing up and have a nasty habit of appearing where you think they are not.

GreyBeast, I guess you're not British then. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
That "roadkill" in my avatar is the title character from a 70's/80's kids program called Bagpuss. Long story why he ended up as my avatar, so I won't bore you all with the details. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Would it make you feel really old if I tell you that I'm British and I don't know who Bagpuss is/was? :P

As for AI planes, just about any one of them can take me out easily. Especially the tanks - I keep flying into the ground. A bit pathetic from someone who's been playing Il-2 for four years...

The B-24 (particularly 4 of them in a group) are quite deadly. All those guns, such a hard-to-hit wing!

Does anyone else think that the small, old, biplane-esque planes are a bit too robust? Po-2, Fi-163 (or whatever it is), I-15x, P-11 - they all seem to take more damage (especially to the wings) than the later aircraft. A bit odd, when one MG round would shatter the wooden wing-spar.

They're long gone now, but in the original IL-2 the AI pilots could spot you on their 6 through clouds from 5 kilometers away.

I remember many evenings of being chased by AI pilots until I was 5 kilometers away from them. At this point they would give up on me and head for home. In the meantime I would slowly swing back around and try to sneak up on their 6 O' clock. The second I got closer than 5 kilometers away, they would spot me and take up the chase again.

Now that can give you nightmares (sort of).
