Hurry! Need to know if I should lay my cash down for one now while Mrs Fiv is still in an agreeing mood http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If I get a USB adapter, will it run in FB? This is my big chance for a proper wobbler. I don't want to miss out. Time is everything. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

And now for the boobies:

I'm running a gameport version with no problems on an XP machine. I'm not using an usb adapter, so I can't tell you if that works ok or not. The price of the usb versions seems down on ebay, if you want to go that route, though the gameport versions are really down.

Nice boobies, I always preferred the blue-foots over the red-foots!

Hello Feathered-IV,

the MS Sidewinder FFB Pro Sticks with Gameport connection works
excellent with XP and W2k.

I have one in use.

The USB-Adapters (none of them !!) does not work with MS Sidewinder FFBs !!!

And it is really easy to install the MS FFB Pro stick.
But you cannot use the Sidewinder Software with
XP or W2k - no version of this software works
with Gameport connectet NS FFB Pro sticks.

It is not necessary too.

Cheers,
Gerhard

I was never able to get FFB to work in XP using the gameport connector. Is there a secret to it?

A while back I picked up a cheap set of CH rudder pedals for next to nothing-they are the same as the current model except that they have a Gameport attachment on them. If I bought a USB adapter will the Pedals work?

Somewhat disappointed with the boobies.

However, pm me if it's a local (aus) item. I don't want to bid against you.

There's an extra to make up for it.

Thank you.

Keep in mind you can't mix usb and gameport controllers. They are mutually exclusive because of the way DirectX is set up.

Gack! Do you mean that the stick will work but the vibration will not? Or that the stick will not function at all, no matter what type of adapter I try to use? (sorry I'm such a duffer with this). Here's the type I just signed for:

http://i5.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/a3/38/16d3_1.JPG

PS, Don't worry Tag' The stick was passed in with no bidders and I got it on the side http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Time for some research.

On the stick compatibility, I mean.

Too late I'd say. Looks like it was a bit of a white elephant. According to the specs for the gameport adapters, USB is not supported in the following:

Standard-Gamepad Microsoft Sidewinder (black)
Joystick Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro
Joystick Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro Plus
Joystick Microsoft Sidewinder Force-Feedback Pro http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif
Microsoft Sidewinder Force-Feedback-Wheel

Unless there is some kind of gameport plugin I can use on my motherboard (which does not come with one) then I guess I'm screwed.

Seeing as though I'm stuck with the thing now, perhaps I can pull it apart for spare bits on my old Precision 2 or something...

I read something a while ago on these forums about soundcard connections for gameport joysticks. Too sleepy myself, but you may want to look into it.

Hello,
my MS Sidewinder Pro FFB gameport connection works very well
with FFB with XP and W2k !!

But you can not use the Sidewinder Software to
cchange the forces and the centering force with the Sidewinder control center from this above software.

You can change the forces within IL-2 at the
directory ForceFeedBack using some others FFb-forces created from other IL2-pilots like smoother cannon-fire and so on.

There are threads about this and the MS Sidewinder Pro FFB gameport in this forum or at the technic forum too - please search.

Cheers,
Gerhard

Creative sound cards have a gameport adapter on them, i know cause i use one for an old ch flightstick from back in the day, as a button bay, and proppitch. Your mffb will work fine with that, oh i have a mffb2 to, you will love ffb.

I use the gameport version, and it works just fine with my usb pedals and trackIr. My asus board came with a gameport/additional usb ports adapter, and that's what I use. You might see if anyone you know has a Asus A8N32SLI or similar board - they should have that adapter and likely don't use it. You'll love the stick! I havn't needed to do anything to set mine up, and havn't missed the Sidewinder software. Good luck!

I'm now the pleased owner of one also, so let me know which solution you've found. I'm intending to use it on my older PC with gameport, but a long-term answer would be useful.

That's good to know! I have that very same board but I never bothered to try and use that extra adapter thinking it wouldn't work. I've owned other boards with built-in gameports that didn't.

Looks like I'm going to have to give it a try. Can't wait to blow the dust off the ol' Sidewinder.

Dont lay down too many duckets for that stick,
bought two for ten bucks, good bench mark for you.
