Sup everyone. I thought I would look for some feedback. Please don't flame this thread either, its nothing more than my ideas and thoughts. And nobody put in any performance numbers, I hate reading charts and graphs associated with video game thats only a simulation. With that said:

I've played the IL2 series for about a year and a half now. My former combat sims (I still play MS2002) were Janes WWII fighters and Attack Squadron along with F4.0.

In each game with the exception of Falcon I've always looked for a ride that suited me most. A plane that could handle well against any opponent and held a good balance of speed agility.

In FB I've picked out a few that I exceptionally like, mind you its just an opinion.

Early war scenarios: I take the P.11C, that plane is amazing, it can practically do backflips. Not to brag but I am the bane of everyone E4 drivers existence in that puppy. The early Zeros are awesome too when pitted against their contemporaries. Although they have a bad habit of lighting into Roman candles after just a few bullets 'Nuff said there.

Mid War: I switch around here, I've been focused more on PF naturally I really haven't found a Japanese plane that fits me here. I've also only had the game for about a month too so I haven't thoroughly flown everything. The uber-ness of the Corsair has been brought down to earth as well as the Hellcat. Then theres the Jug which is fast and powerful, but too bulky it doesn't seem to fit quite right with my flying style. The Spit is my plane here its beautiful to look and and equally as deadly, I really don't specify by model they're all wonderful as long as your not flying against a plane thats way out of its category.

Late War: Here's the reason I made this post in the first place. This part also creates the most debate in the forums. I've been moving back and forth around between the D9, K4, and the Mustang with FB. When AEP came out I was expecting the Ta-152H-1 to be the equalizer. Its just bad@ss to look at with its V-14 inverted V fuel injected GM-1. But to be honest I was dissappointed. In the plane that is, I'm not going to debate whether or not the game is realistic here since only a handful of people alive today have ever flown one. Not including me. So anyways for the past few months now since AEP I've been dabbling back and forth in these planes still honing my skills and my tactics in each plane trying to find a surefire tactic and a plane to call my baby.
Then I something great happened. AEPPF has so many planes I sat down and looked around and finally paid attention to a whole category I've been ignoring since the western front was introduced in the second patch for FB. The Eastern front. The plane I'm refering to now being the Equalizer, the equal oppurtunity @sskicker. Doras, Mustangs, Kurfursts, even the jets become prey to this plane. Its fast, agile, deadly, yet sleek and smooth and sexy. Drum roll please!!!!

The Yak 9UT. This plane has it all, I've noticed it doesn't get much attention especially now with PF out. It was modeled awhile ago to so its textures aren't as nice as the Gladiator, but if you can put that down and take this baby for a test drive you will be pleasantly surprise. 16vs16 Yaks against Mustangs Veteran difficulty 3000m, then against Doras, 109K4s. In the first round against the Mustangs I kept my speed up and just blew threw carefully placing my shots and after one round I had 3 air to air victories, taking only damage from flak. The tally said it all 16 P-51s downed with a loss of only 3 Yaks. It was like an awakening, dare I say I haven't been this excited about something since I met my girlfriend. Call me a loser I dare ya http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif.
Anyways, next time around I switched the enemies to D-9s. This was more of a challenge. To my chagrin I was diving through ripping it up but I couldn't leave the D-9 the same way I could with the Mustang. To my excitement again, I pull back hard on the stick while doing about 500kph to avoid enemy fire wondering if I would shear the wings off when WHAM. She turns on a #$%^*&! dime. Rolling and looping I really put these Doras through their paces. By this point I was down to about 2000 meters and I was destined to run. The Doras had gotten lucky with their superior armament and managed to damage most of my wingmen. I wasn't hit but was had about 5 on my tail which had dove off the melee above for me. I punched the throttle to the firewall, went vertical, came back down leaving the Doras to stall out and spin. Meanwhile I called my team to RTB, and shot outta their like a bat outta hell.

Thats my story and my reasoning, realistic or not, the Yak 9UT is quite the plane and I'm sticking with her. To be honesn't once I go on Winter Break I'm going to try to get in some stick time and really try her out online and see how I fair against real players. Hopefully I can find a late-war server. Sorry I didn't record the N-track for that one I'll remember too next time though.

Anyways what do you guys think? Does anyone else share my enthusiasm?

Great read! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The Yak-9U(UT) is one of the most underestimated fighters in the game. Apart from being the only good looking VVS fighter(IMO) it has the speed and climb to meet the late war LW fighters at equal terms(at least). I love the armament of the U and aiming is easy thanks to a stable platform. It's only weakness is stiff controls at the highers speeds but this can work to an advantage. Instead of pulling insane G's at 700km/h bleeding lots of E, the Yak-9U will remain fast, and this will benefit in a vertical fight. Should the odds be against you, the topspeed of the 9U will leave most fighters behind, and for those that are faster can instead be outmanouvered at dogfight speeds instead.

Pretty isn't it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

a yak is a yak is a yak

I always think of someone vomiting when I hear the word, lol

ok, htey are jaunty lil rides, but lets face it, in a df server they lack....no range, so you have to take at least 50% gas, low pilot protection, and lets face it, they suck at alt...
I waste yaks in the jug, but mind you, the Jug is meant to operate high, and the Yak low, so its inevitable that Yaks get bounced a lot

every now and then I will take a 9K for some fun...guess the UT is better performance with an only slightly smaller cannon?

Nice cammo/paint scheme. I like it alot!

Its a good plane the Yak-9U. Its got less of a reputation because almost nobody flies it...but its a good plane if you fly it right. And yes, that 37mm is hard to aim with...VERY hard.
