Zeke V Wildcat server.

G4M Betty @ 5000m, target a US Navy Heavy Cruiser.

http://users.tpg.com.au/narsil//5000kill-3.jpg

Takes a lot of practice but the results are worth it. I have this down to about a 80% strike rate.

Anyone else out there a big fan of high altitude pinpoint bombing??

Nice hit, well done! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

I too fly some on Zekes, when flying the betty it usually pay off to get really high. My highest bomb-run was made on the Java map at 8000m.

Question, do you aim directly ontop of the ship or slightly short?

Practice pratice and you need to be good with the bombsight too. I've been with level bombing a great many times, respect to you man http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(Having the level autopilot and rudder trim on a slider helps a great deal. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif)

Was on last night with you...saw your chat bar note:

"going to bomb from 5000m on the cruiser"

And I'm thinking good luck. I'm luck to hit water from that height - much less the target.

well done...very impressed m8!

Wow. Just went and had a look in-game to remind myself what ships look like from 5000 metres. Impressive skills.

didnt even know it could be done from that altitude http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I got mad respect for the high alt bomber pilots. So much so that I rarely if ever engage them. Nice work!

That's tough to do, kudos. What sort of ordnance do you use, and does it make a difference?

That takes skill.

High-altitude pin-point bombing for me involves dive-bombing from 5000+ meters. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I hit something with a bomb once.

Total fluke http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

Well done, Gog http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Thanks guys! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

KG66 Hitman perfected a technique for accurate bombing at all altitudes and it is paying off.
I'll say this to all the budding high altitude kings out there, attention to detail on the bomb run is vital!

As for ordnance, I used the single 800kg bomb which is apparently a HE, non armour piercing one so didn't expect it to kill the cruiser....but it did of course.

It takes a long time to get to 5000m +, you generally get one maybe two sorties before the map rotates so its quite depressing when you get to your target height only to find some allied fighter wandering around lost who then proceeds to shoot you down. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

We generally have no impact on the map outcome anyway so its refreshing to know that there are pilots out there that would rather leave us alone but please feel free to follow us around and smoke us after we have gotten our bombs away after all this is a combat sim. If you absolutely must shoot us down before we get to the target, well we're ok with that too, we can handle ourselves pretty well in a fight and sometimes need the practice. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

See you out there blokes, up very high where its quiet. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I'm a big fan of high altitude bombing too, but I like to come in for the bomb run at 4500 instead of 5000, I seem to have better luck there for some reason.

Anyhow, That was a great shot. S~

The Betty is the most accurate bombing platform in the game.

I've had a lot of success with it. Unlike the B25, I can't hit anything with that turkey, unless I skip bomb or strafe with it.

I remember watching a TV program about bombers once and they were talking about the Norden bombsight and how it improved the accuracy of bombing, the narrator even said that it rendered carpet bombing obsolete...anyway, on this program they got a veteran B-25 bombardier to show them how the sight worked, and had him drop dummy bombs on a cross in the middle of a road.

I remember that the bombs were released and they hit like 2-300 feet in front of the intended target. The old dude said that that distance in WW2 was considered a bullseye. And they dropped the dummy bombs from below 10 000 feet!

well done, i have a fair few bombing stories myself. when i used to fly, i had bombing pretty good up until about 6000m. I'd say between 4 and 6k my strike rate was at 80%, after that about 40%, but i was pretty good with the bombsight.

tried to teach people to no success. i realised you either understood the sight or didnt, im glad i did. if i ever went bk to flying again, id dedicate more time flying high altitude sorties.

maybe in BoB he111! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

High Altitude Pin point bombing! It can be done. Track?

KG66_Gog
10-15-2007, 03:11 AM
What, don't believe me?

There is a track of course but it will reveal just how KG66 is so accurate, and that's something we'd like to keep under our hat for a bit.

Sorry, maybe one day ok. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

level bombing is not hard at all - hitting cruisers from 7k is http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif - we would like to see the track just to verify that you didn't hit it from 1k http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It most certainly can be done.

The G4M is very accurate up high, because unlike the B-25 and Ju-88, the Betty actually doesn't sink when on level stabilizer, which is the biggest single issue with high alt bombing.

There is an excellent bombing assist tool over on M4T that does an excellent job of calculating the TAS from your IAS and alt. Once you dial that in, and spend some time to learn the bomb characteristics of the different ordnance, you can achieve very good success rates from up high.

I am not bad, but there are some guys in my squad that are very good at alt, and I have seen them do it repeatedly, so it definitely can be done.

Hey, not too bad a work there! Greetings from KG54 here http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

But yeah, once you figure it out high alt precision boombing really is some fun. But I share your dissapointment in map lengh. it's getting even more dissapointing if you have to formm up first, wasting even more time before the map rotates, which is the reason we bomb from 3000meters only for the most part, sometimes less.
