My local comp store has the ASUS FX5200 128mb
card on sale for $89.95, is this a good deal?
Is this a good card?
I currently have a GeForce MX440 64mb,
would the ASUS be a good upgrade?
I would love to hear your opinions. Thanx

I don't know if that's is as good as other FX cards and some might argue ATI cards are better. But to me, if I had a MX440 with half of the VRAM that one has, and for that price, I'd have to think it would be a really good improvement in performance. I'd think your FPS would improve by 5 or 10 FPS, which would be worth it to me.
For the price it sounds good. I have had many Asus mobos and always like them.

www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) has them listed for $63. Was just looking at them myself. I'm still not sure what to get though. The ATI 9200 looks like the better physical performer but the FX has DX9 support and FB likes GF better than radeons. Both are the same price.

At the start of WW2 the German army lacked experienced anti-aircraft gunners. The average gunner was so bad that the USSR decided to help them out. They did it by forcing some of their pilots to fly I-153 flak magnets. These planes were slow but very sturdy. This allowed German anti-aircraft gunners to get a large amount of target practice on a relatively small number of planes. Thanks to the Soviets help, by the end of the war the German anti-aircraft gunners were amoung the best in the world.</center>

Actually, I just bought this card. Originally, I got it for my son's computer after he fried his Ti-4200 overclocking it too hard. Well to make a long story short, I decided to stick it in my machine and check it out since my older Ti-4600 does not support 8x AGP. I was quite surprised when it outperformed my Ti card. For the price I think it's a pretty good card.

A fx5200 out performed a ti4600? :0

Wow, I did not think that was up to the specs!

And an ATI Radeon 9700 pro is nothing more than a 8500 pro by a different name /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif . There really are differences between the 2. I looked at both and the FX5200 appears to be 50% faster than an MX440. Still an entry level card, but it should be more than enough to run FB at excellent if not perfect settings.

Not yet, I just ordered one a few hours ago and won't get it for about a week. My current card is a pre-historic 64mb ATI Rage Fury Maxx and I still get 30 fps average at medium detail in cockpit. The 128mb 5200FX is over 20x as fast if my memory is correct. Therefore I expect to be able to run a excellent detail and get 40 fps average or higher. Of course I could be wrong and I might get a performance decrease, but I seriously doubt that /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif . I think what most peoples problem with running FB is they don't know how to set up the cards properly. You can more than triple your FPS without sacrificing any detail if you just play with the setup program for 10 minutes instead of using one of Oleg's super ineffeciant options.

Nah, it's the cheap low-end. Check out:

where the 5200 Ultra still works like crap.

We shall see. I'll report the performance I get from the 128mb GF FX5200 once I get it installed and set up. If I can get 30 fps average in cockpit at medium detail over Leningrad with a pre-voodoo 5 card then I shouldn't have any problem getting better performance out of a modern card. Even if it is a cheap one. I think that some people here fail to take into account that not everyone can afford to buy a $400 graphics card every 2 months. Not sure why you would want to either, I can't see the difference between 40 fps and 80 fps as long as they are steady.

FX5200 is a good card for the money, but $90 is too much. Like someone said they are on pricewatch for less. I reccomend that you buy from MSI or ASUS. There is a 128mb FX5200 from MSI at pricewatch for $69

That's what I thought. Just like comparing a ti4600 to a mx card.

Thanx for all the advice. I think I'll stick with my mx440 for now, wait until I can afford something better.
