In the read me file with the new patch (v 1.11) it says you can set the campaign length and also select what type of fighter or jabo pilot you want to be.
I cant find anyway to acxcess this! When I boot up fb it says its v 1.1!? Any ideas anyone?

Here is the extract i mean -

"9. For every career a file that defines plane classes for this career can be created. File name is ClassesNnX.dat, where NnX is career ID, like DeS for Geman Stuka. It is a text file that overrides default plane classes for this career, the format is:

PLANE ROLE,
for example:

FW_109A4 FIGHTER
FW_109A5 FIGHTER

the following roles are supported:

FIGHTER = escort, intercept, recon missions
LIGHT = same as fighter, "soft" ground targets like trains can be attacked.
TANK = soft targets + tanks, not antiship or anti bridge.
JABO = scramble, recon and all ground attack missions
ALL = all missions, fighter and ground attack
GROUND = only ground targets, suitable for bombers or ILs"

and this bit about campaign length -

"CampaignLength=VeryLong (Long,Medium,Short,VeryShort), default is VeryLong. Sets number of missions in campaign. Long is about 2 times shorter than VeryLong. VeryShort is about 10 times shorter."

Do you have to go into the program files and change these settings?

Any help appreciated!!

2 seperate issues Sleuth:

1: Campaign Length. Add this line (at the end) to the file called Conf.ini in the main Il-2FB folder, just as it says. Use Windows Notepad or Wordpad to edit the conf.ini (or any text editor that can save as text file)

2: Plane role: For this you need to create a text file called ClassesXxX.dat where XxX is the name of the campaign, for example, ClassesDeN.Dat is the German (De) Army Group North ; Leningrad (N).Dat The German Jabo campaign would be called ClassedDeL.dat. Use Windows Notepad (or wordpad) to create the .dat file with the lines you want (note FW109_A4 is minor typo in the readme, it should of course be FW190_A4). To create the file you can also copy/paste another .dat file, rename it, rewrite all of its contents to your needs. This file (ClassesXxX.Dat) goes in the DGEN folder ('under' main Il-2FB folder).

Ok, thanks everybody! I think I have installed the patch correctly... it does say v1.11 (I made a typo in the last message!) when I boot up the game.
It all sounds a bit complicated!

What is the net effect of using the different career options?

Also, I can find a conf file but it doesn't say conf.ini and doesnt seem to offer these options to change.

Is what you are saying you have to put in that condition yourself?

I probably cant see the wood for the trees when trying to find the conf.ini thing so I'll have another look at that.

Thanks a lot, everyone round here is very helpful!!
cheers

If you do not have your file options to show file extensions, in would not show the .ini part. You can change this in control panel/folder options/view. Check show file extensions & show system files.
Yes you do have to add these text lines to the end of your conf.ini file. Just follow exactly what it says in the read me file & pick the options you prefer.

When you find the conf.ini file. You won't find that line. You have to add it. Don't forget to save it.

Cheers All,

do these settings just mean that you only get soft targets or tanks or whatever, to attack in the missions? Just trying to ask what effect these cahanges will have. Do you guys play single player or just play online?
I have 56k modem and have trouble turning into the landing strip!!
But by 'eck when you do get it right... it feels good!
Thanks again for your help.
