I heard the rumbling of an aircraft flying low overhead and peeked outside and bam a B26 (possibly a B25) flying over my home. A B17 flew over about 10 minutes later. What is going on near Spring, Texas around Hooks Airport?

Could be, but as far as I know there are no airworthy B-26s at this time.

Could be a A-26 or a B-24?

EDIT, "Fantasy of Flight" is currently claiming their B-26 is airworthy.

Fantasy of Flight is owned by Kermit Weeks and
is in Kissimmee Florida (last I heard)

Isn't it awesome to see those old birds airborn?

I was golfing last week in Oceana (va beach). I heard this very familiar roar in the distance and as it got closer hear a whistling sound. Then I see her. A Corsair screaming right over my head he11 bent for leather. It made several laps around the golf course. I was in awe!

Yeah, they're flying out of Conroe, RoT.

I flew on the 17 years ago and it was one of the best days ever. Trying to convince my wife I need to do it again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

My office is right across the street from Hooks, wish they hung out there...

About 6-7 months ago I drove by Hooks airport and saw the P47 Tarheel Hal parked by the street. It was just beautiful!

Ya, its probably the Wings of Freedom tour. They were in Dallas last weekend and they also have a new TP-51C too.
On a different topic...There is an airplane museum in Addison (north Dallas) that will be getting "FIFI" the B-29 in about 2 years. I'm looking forward to seeing it there. I saw it flying in Arkansas a number of years ago. Awesome sight and sounds.

I remember getting a surprise a few years back, I heard an Engine note I didn't recognise, looked up and there was a JU52 flying overhead.
I'm used to seeing DC3's and the annual sight of the "Battle of Britain Flight", on their way to the local airshow, but this was the first time I'd seen a "Tante JU" in flight.

There's nothing like an impromptu airshow is there?

I'm renowned in my house for hearing something, shouting "That's different!" and dashing outside in my socks, to a lot of rolling of the eyes from family members in a "Dad's off again!" look. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

We get the occasional Harrier or Tornado, normally flying NW to SE which frustratingly takes them across the blindside of my house so you have to be quick.

A couple of days ago I was treated to two RAF C-130's at VERY low level and maneuvering quite dramatically in line formation, very cool.

Other highlights over the years have included an F-86 and Mig 15 in formation, a flight of AH-64 Longbow Apaches using the hill at the rear of my house to navigate around, the BoB memorial flight on numerous occassions, and a squadron of F-15's at high altitude ( needed the bino's for that one).

I live in Staffordshire in the UK and this area used to be guaranteed to be busy with lowflying military traffic but since the end of the cold war coupled with the amount of active service commitments it's dropped off to almost zero. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

So you have to make the most of any fleeting appearance and take the bollockings from the Mrs about coming back in with dirty wet socks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

I don't know of any flying B-26's. The only one I've ever seen for real was on static dispaly at the Fantasy of Flight museum in Florida. It's a shame because I think it's one of the nicest looking aircraft and it played a major role in the tactical air campaign in WW2. It would nice to see one "living" again.

Last summer as I was working in Statesboro I saw what I believed to be some P-51s. And at Tybee Island I thought I saw an Avenger. A month or so ago I saw 2 F-18s that looked to be landing @ Savannah International Airport. They flew just a couple hundred feet over I-95 with gear down and lights on. And a couple of years ago during the G8 summit I saw AirForce One about 1000 ft above the River Cabin, with 3 fighters in very close formation. Anyway, Its very cool to see warbirds of any kind flying.
