just randomly strikes me, why didnt they strap a big gun on the Fw190? i mean bigger than the 30mm, a tank buster cannon like on the stuka.

I posted this film, and the rest of the SERIES that it comes from, to alt.binaries.multimedia.aviation over a year ago now.

If only you guys would get your - you know what together - you could all have had proper copies of this and many many other films by now.

Thats what the Mk103 gunpods were for.

Well maybe "only" 30mm but with Hartkernmunition tungsten cores had a penetration up around 300mm at 90 degrees depending on armor type.

Actually the Mk 103 gunpods were found to be unusable since firing them induced a quite dramatic yaw. The reason was, AFAIR, that the engineers could not get the two guns to fire in absolute synch. They proposed a single center-line mounted gunpod for the Fw 190, but by then the introduction of the Panzerblitz rocket system was in sight and these were far easier to use than the (relatively) difficult Mk 103. And they cost a lot less than the Tungsten-core ammo of the latter.

What is this series called then? I've seen the episodes about the Panther, Panzer IV, Stuka and self propelled artillery. Still have no clue what it is called though.

Unfortunately I have a retention of three weeks so can't d/l it anymore.
So I will take a look at YT then.
But Usenet is great! Downloaded several docs about WWII (aviation)already. It looks like if my PC is downloading 24-7. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
