I used 16bit compression, just to try it out, turned on my mirror, and here's what I saw

I always run in 16 bit and can see the mirrors just fine if I turn them on.

Not just 16 bit color . . . 16 bit texture compression. Trilenear mipmap, stencil buffer on. Oh, yes, OpenGL.

You think that is strange, then try editing your conf.ini file and add "EnableWorry=0":
