Welcome aboard skies.

You would be better advised posting your issue here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/49310655), in the help forum. The guys there are very helpful. You should start with posting your info from the "dxdiag" utility (start->run->dxdiag->"save all information"). Probably would help if you turned the caps lock off too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Cheers!

Ouch...
Bit more detail, perhaps?
Oh, and paragraphs + NO CAPS wouldn't do bad either... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Do the "caps" really bother you truly? Or is it just in your head because you've been told caps are supposed to be bad?? Caps don't bother me a bit. New age ettiquette that people come up with for no reason than just to make up an arbitrary rule is what truly bothers me.

CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL!

But, even with cruise control you still have to STEEEEEEERRR!

Since when are punctuation and grammar considered "new age etiquette"? I don't know what school system you went through, but these are things that most of us learned at a pretty early age. Not very difficult to use either.

Btw your caps-lock key is broken. Thought you might want to add that to the list of your problems. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

funny, i dont see anything in mortomas post that mentions grammer or punctuation. he just commented on the use of caps.

reading comprehension is also taught early on.

Don't get discouraged, and hopefully we haven't scared ya off. As flox said a dxdiag will go a long way to helping us help you.

The game runs very smoothly on a multitude of different speced comps, so we'll get you up and running. No worries there.

My imediate thought is how much memory do you have, are you running Vista, and what vid card?

Oh, and the caps? It makes it hard to read. Many won't have the patience to read something if it's too much of a chore.

Good for you, really. In the world of internet communication, caps is considered SCREAMING. If you wont let yourself be bothered by that, again, good for you. But to others who take "netiquette" seriously, its bad to them. So care to let people have an opinion?

You might not understand it, but its how it is. Like I dont understand why the english have to save their darned arse Queen. I dont understand it, but its how it is.

Indeed it is. Perhaps you should take your own advice. Or, is there some other way you would categorize proper use of capital letters?

Anyway like Skunk said, "it is what it is". I don't care to steer this thread into debate oblivion.

Is that onboard graphics? If so I would hazard a guess that could be the cause of your problems.

I know this will come as a shock, but...
Your computer is simply not good enough. A bit more research and asking here before purchasing would have solved everything.

1024mb RAM (with Vista!), onboard graphics, outdated processor etc.

I think his processor & RAM are fine although not optimal. Until last year I ran the game on Excellent settings with a 1.6GHz Athlon & 768MB RAM. Even now, I just have a 2.5GHz processor & 1GB RAM. His vid card is probably not enough, though.

Might be fine with XP. But Vista? No.
I speak of experience, 2GB is absolute minimum.

If you have a PCI-E slot, you can disable that onboard graphics card and get a better card to put in there. And add some RAM.

10-03-2007, 05:59 PM
The CPU is good enough but I agree that you need a new graphics card. Another 1024MB Ram would be good too. btw, try to get similar ram as the one you have now.

The only thing you can do right now is set your graphics to "very low"(in game) and experiment up from there, you need about 25FPS sustainable to be able to play, you can also set your resolution down to 1024*768 this will also help, please post the model number (from the front of the PC) I saw AGP mentioned...this is not a bad thing but its not great either.

Good news its a ASUS MB and you have a 16x pci-E port http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif 1 more gig of ram and one vid card and you will be all set, we can make suggestions or you can tell us how much you have to spend.

go into the set up and turn off the sound, see if it runs then ok.......... I had problems with mine freezing and crashing, in the end i changed the sound card settings in game and it fixed it..selecting no sound will tell you if thats the problem...

in windows go

start

all programs

ubisoft folder

last window

click on set up

sound tab and turn it off there then try again..

On-board graphics plus on-board sound? Way too many cpu cycles being used up before you even try to start the sim. I suggest if you have a PCI-E slot to get yourself a real graphics card. And pick yourself up an Audigy 2 sound card. You should be fine to play this sim without any issues afterwards.

I am creating a shortcut to our Community Help forum for your thread.

Sadly the misconception today is that it's the "readers" responsibility to decipher the total guff that passes for English these days - not the "author" to make their thoughts easily understood.

Quite when this burden shifted i have no idea, the sheer audacity of it overwhelms me.

It's the height of rudeness IMO to present before someone the literary equivalent of the slop bucket IN CAPS, and expect them to understand it.

What is being done to written English these days is unspeakable.

In il2setup, do you have hardware acceleration turned on in the sound section? I used to have problems with that before I got my gaming rig.

Your PC isn't up to playing this game as it is. Some parts are ok. You really need a proper GPU.

I disagree on the ram....Now don't get me wrong, the more the better always...Yet I'm running 1gb of what is now very slow ram and it works fine.

Graphics card would be the biggie, sound possibly as well though I have heard (don't know) onboard sound is close to par with a seperate card....

No expert so not sure how to read the DXDIAG...Yet I did notice the page file size as to used and available...not skilled enough to read from your dxdiag if you have it set firm or windows to decide...If firm I'd bump it up some.

Also...ALWAYS remember to stop un-needed background programs. MS even has a webpage that discusses doing so, so you'll have fewer backround programs running...I myself use no messengers, do not auto download updates (a biggie as some programs seem to pound away at the net wanting to connect home), and really have most of my PC only running what it needs anywho...Manually starting programs as I need them..........All that helps bunches.

Okay. There are some things you could try.

I started out with no video card. I had motherboard with Trident grafix chip -- the slowest of the slow. And I only had the keyboard for control, but the caps lock worked. I spent most of my "game" time working and learning FMB -- although the FMB would often freeze up for a few seconds with that Trident grafix -- until I got a real grafix card (ATI-9200) and a surprisingly effective joystick (20$ Saitek Cyborg Graphite). This was about 4 years ago, so your motherboard grafix is probably better than my Trident I had at the time.

But I was able to play a some -- how?

(1) I used 640x480 resolution.
(2) Set grafix to lowest possible setting, and even lower than that.

In the conf.ini file is a TexQual= setting. Set this to 0. The terrain looks low detail and washed out, but got my framerate up to a good 15fps. The normal in-game grafix menu have a low setting that sets the conf.ini TexQual=1. I set it to zero, lower than the lowest!

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Another classic example of pathetic English skills.

Ya I've been looking at graphics cards and I think I'm gonna get a PCI-E, because I can and it's a lot faster!!! Oh ya only $80.00 MORE dollars to cry about not having to pay for my graphics card....=(. But thanks for the choices.

Sorry to cut in here, 1 gig ram might be fine for online, but if he intends to do any offline stuff like Campaign utilising ground objects and many AI aircraft he will seriously benefit from 1 half to 2 gig ram.

I found a massive improvement going from 1 gig to 1half to 2.

Online servers never need quite the processing power since Humans are mostly doing the flying.

Hi skies_blade; From all the responses you can see everyone is eager to help.

Just take it one step at a time.
I came from a simular situation as you - onboard graphics...
Step 1 - you do need a dedicated video card.
ANY card is better than onboard graphics.
My system is new with very recent motherboard and chipset.
Asus M2A VM with onboard X1250 integrated graphics AMD64 X2 4000+ CPU and 2 Gigabyte DDR2 RAM.

This system gave me 0.5 frames per second running I-2 Sturmovik 1946
I put in a Radeon X1950 256MByte DDR3 graphics card today (into the PCI-E X16 connector...
IL-2 Sturmovik now runs at 50-500 frames per second. THAT'S how big a difference it is. And your system looks better than mine... Just get that card and you can play. Soundcard and other stuff is UNIMPORTANT compared to the gfx card. You can optimize later. Get it working first http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

P.S. video did run superb with the onboard graphics (it still does with the gfx card).

With all the well meant advice - no one will claim a factor 1000 improvement by changing RAM amount, sound card or settings. Only a dedicated video card can do that.
nVidea cards will give the best results both in frames/second and graphics quality. I opted for the ATI X1950Pro because I need Video In to digitize from SVHS source signal. nVidea did not have a card (at least I could not find one) that would give me that.
You will probably need a new Power Supply unit too (with a PCI-E connector) to accomodate the graphics card. Make sure it has enough power for the card (500Watt and up should be OK. More is better. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Take a good one with several 12 Volt rails.
Ignore the caps haters. It seems they have taken it upon themselves to preach syntax, spelling and etiquette even if no-one is interested and they are so self-consumed they ignore people that need help.

I wasn`t going to say anything on this because I thought it was over on the first page, but I find capital letters very annoying.

It is like shouting on the net. It gives the impression that one person out of all the persons just must have his voice heard even if what he has to say isn`t very imporatnt.

It`s similarly annoying to posting the same thread 2 or 3 times to get seen.

Compare:

UGH MY STUPID COMP KEEPS FREEZING WITH IL-2

Ugh, my stupid comp keeps freezing with IL2.

Which do you prefer? Which would you rather soonest respond to?

You`ll probably say both equally now since you know that any other answer would go against your earler words.

You can say almost anything if said without the screeching capital letters and get a far better set of responses.

Also, if every GOES AROUND TALKING LIKE THIS, HOW DO WE KNOW WHEN THEY ARE HAPPY OR ANNOYED WITH A CERTAIN ISSUE?

I LIKE IL2.

I HATE IL2.

Loud capitals should only be used IN threads to make a strong point if italics are not enough.

I normally ignore such loud Thread headings for 2 -3 days before taking a look, because I refuse to immediately respond to loud shouting for attention.

And do you really want to see every new thread in loud capital letters all down the whole screen? I don`t. It would look very ugly as well as annoying. So I think it`s good to discourage it.

OK, your standpoint on this is clear.

Be glad you did not work with computers 30 years ago. TTY's only had caps http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's not about hating caps or not though. this thread is about a computer freezing and should not be hijacked to promote other things And yes people that are fairly new online do make mistakes. Most of them learn from it too.

A bit of tolerance toward such things is not a bad thing. There are many people around forums that are non-native English speakers or have handicaps too - how do you think they feel when they keep getting jumped on because they make the slightest spelling mistake every time they post. If you want to teach English do it in front of an English language classroom, not on an international flight sim forum.

just my 2 cents.

oh, i understand about spelling mistakes. i type so fast that I do lots. just look at my last post for errors. but i was only explaining about capital letters, not spelling since not everyone here are english speakers.

But capital letters crosses all languages, I think. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sleepzzz.gif

I have to admit that the title of the thread put me off taking a look, even though I visit this forum daily to see if I can help people out.

I guess my reluctance comes not only from the caps=shouting issue - but from "UGH MY STUPID COMP...."
Computers aren't stupid , but the owners can be, and I have to decide whether I want to get involved if they can't see past that. I'm asking myself whether the user is going to take the advice and use it properly, or whether it's going to be an up-hill struggle.

Quote: "if no-one is interested and they are so self-consumed they ignore people that need help." is a strange way of interpreting the above, I think. Quite insulting in my opinion.

True. Sometimes it`s hard work if you believe you may have to explain their whole computer to them from what a harddrive is to the cpu... The loud tone of a first thread post can sometimes give that impression.

Well I'll have you all know that, that I think I'm pretty darn good in English. The CAPS were only the mood I was in at the confusing and upseting time that I realized my brand-new computer wouldn't run IL-2. But thanks for all your posts chaps, whether it be about the topic or not. Now I know my solution to the problem I once had.

I have a Hp pc also and i have a Media Accelerator video card with 2 gigs of ram and a C2D e4400 CPU.

I have no trouble running IL2 In windows XP, i play with online with 70 other players in Forgotten Skies and i still get between 30-50fps on high settings running in 1024 by 768 resolution.

Wow, so it's either 1 GB of RAM, or a new graphics card? Well which one *should* I get?
You guys have the same computers, a bit worse, but you both have 2 not 1 GB of RAM. Do you guys think I should get more RAM, a new graphics card, or Both?

I would get the video card first, that will make the most difference. You will want more ram but it can take a backseat for now. Il2 is playable on 1g of ram, it most certainly is not playable with onboard graphics!

Yeah im playing on onboard video card until my RMA Geforce 8800GTS is shipped back to me.
