Hi guys.

I so enjoyed the jeep mod offline and figured it could be even more fun online, so I made a map and put a server on Hyperlobby.
Its called

Vulch_My_Jeep

You can select a jeep and try to race it from the airfield to a nearby town, defeating enemy tanks, armed checkpoints, fighters, trains and more. You can also select a plane and help out your mates in the jeeps, or pick an enemy fighter and try to vulch them!

Its a Zuti MDF dogfight server, you can join at any time, it wont be up 24/7 until Im sure it works properly and move it to a dedicated machine and install a daemon, but it should be on HL most of the time.

Here is a teaser of the map I made:

You will obviously need the jeep mod, as well as zuti 1.12

Hope some of you will give it a try, bring some friends, its hilarious!

I guess none of those kids have ever driven a real Willys MB.

Anything over 35 mph and you are taking your life in your hands.

Powerslides? Pffffttttt..... Get one even a little crossed up at "speed" and you will be on your top.

Powerslides!!!! With 60 bhp on tap?

OMG how patronising!!!
You do realise this a computer game? Yes, I said it! It is a game!
For those who have managed to avoid stretching their necks into their sphincters, I've played this fine map and it is great fun http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That looks like a RIOT!
I have not yet tried the Jeep mod, but read about it before.
Seeing your Youtube vid has me thinking about trying this out.

"VULCH"?

Kids these days. Think shooting at anything on the ground is vulching. This is why I don't go on hyperlobby anymore.

Why not just call it Rat Patrol meets Black Sheep in Arcade-Ya?
If you haven't seen a Rat Patrol show in about forever then find one and see how far through you can watch it.

Two questions

So can I take out a jeep and mindlessly bang it into things like the AI does or will that spoil the duco?

and

POWERSLIDES

Would you mind e-mailing me the mission file for it? I don't always have a good connection and can't join the server as often as I like. Awesome vid, btw!

I made an offline version for it first. Its set up as a challenge, race from start to finish as fast as you can. You can get it from here :

I don't really mean to.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

It's just that I work for an automobile museum and drive a WW2 MB from the collection about once or twice a year. So I get a bit prickly about seeing one going as fast as that one is in the clip.

It does look like fun to be honest, and heaven knows this sim needs a fun injection now a days.

Reminds me of when I was on an OGN server, Slovakia map, and taxied my P-38 back to base from a town. I ended up losing both wings after trying to fit through a gap in some trees, but the engines were still good! (There were no enemies on the server...)

Looks like a total blast!

I'd like a copy of that single player mission too, if you'd only give me a *hint* as to where it might be available http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

I was having fun on the OnlineSummer map until I ran into a river http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

You can download the mission file here:

http://www.battle-fields.com/c...owthread.php?t=21289 (http://www.battle-fields.com/commscentre/showthread.php?t=21289)

(Not quite sure why the mods removed that link, as its not a link to any mod, but to a forum post with a link to a map and a few tracks).

Do post your time if you complete it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That was the coolest, as well as the funniest, IL2 video I've ever seen. I've got to try that.

Nice (if unrealistic) mod really, and those videos are just so awesomely funny! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

A few questions, as an active air racer, I'd like to know:

The overheat time
Vmax and Vne
Mixture/supercharger/prop p... ehh gear ratio/possible water injection/boost settings
Max ceiling (before the engine dies from lack of oxygen)

Also, if there is a time bonus given for good and long powerslides? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

As long as it doesnt out-turn the Motorcycle. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I wonder if you could get the Machine gunner mounted on the rear, give'em a chance to fight back.

Vmax and Vne are pretty much the same: 130 KmH. If you exceed that the jeep does weird things only possible in IL2 physics. Like doing a 360 and/or flipping over and stopping in 10m for no good reason.

Overheat time: never. Though you can set radiator settings, I cant say I notice a difference http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Mixture, boost and gearbox all fully automatic.

ceiling.. should be able to drive it up the mount everest I think http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

What does seem to make a difference is fuel load. Could be my imagination but it seems to accelerate faster with a light load. Would make sense if the fuel tank has 400+ gallon capacity http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

More appropriate question would be maximum slope % it can climb and descend and I would guess those to be around 50% and 100% respectively (ca 30 and 45 degrees). That might even be somewhat realistic especially since the brakes cant hold it on a longer descend http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This speed equates to 80.77825mph. Clearly wrong. You would be lucky to get a WW2 MB model to hit 61mph (100Kph) with a strong tailwind on a billiard table smooth road.

A much more realistic paved road top speed (but not for long with it's short gearing) would be 85kph (52.81655mph).

Just sayin'.

Heh, that looks loads of fun that does! Is it just the jeep, or other types of vehicles used in this mod?

Thank you captain obvious. Perhaps you also want to point out that the willy wasnt really powered by a V12 allison, that it drove on 4 wheels, not 3 like in the mod (its a P38), that it had a manual transmission and 4 wheel traction rather than an invisible propeller, and that a real willy could not balance on its front wheel or wouldnt flip over its nose on a straight road at speed.

I guess its just a funny modification of a flightsim, not an attempt at making a ww2 version of Collin McRae.

So the forum goes from page after page in support of uber realism, the mockery of all things deemed "arcade", and the veneration of the chart monkey, to total accpetance of a bogus mod that is wrong in nearly every aspect.

Curious.

And indeed amazing.

S!

The beautiful thing in this mod or whatever you want to call it: You DO NOT have to use it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Simple. No need to start a war over something not even meant to be realistic, just a fun thing for people.
