Howdy guys I downloaded the game online and through these forums was able to set up my x52 and rudder pedals (im comin from aces high2). Anywho I was wondering what do/will I need to play this online and also just to get the latest/best setup to play offline. Ive read alot about patches and pe-2 and stuff but frankly it confuses me. BTW I have the forgoten battle version. Also any other sources of info on the "battle of britain" game other than the forum? That looks as it will be a kick *** game but everywhere I go has a different release date
Thanx much

Hi and welcome.

Just play the game you have bought for a couple of weeks to get used to flying offline.

Then buy the Full IL2 collection with 300 planes which comes out in a couple of weeks. It includes everything needed to get online with a full merged install of 3 ga,mes.

If you're coming from Aces high there's a few things to get used to.

1) There's no main arena; nor central server. Every IL-2 server is private property; and the owner/admin sets it up the way he sees fit; so your first challenge is finding servers with a mix of plane set and difficulty settings you like.

2)You pay for the game; but joining a server and flying online is free.

3)The easiest way to find servers is to use a gaming lobby. The two most popular are "Hyperlobby" and "all seeing eye"; both of which are free. Once you got one of these set up; it works just like the arena selection screen in Aces High.

4) Both the server and the client have to run the same version of the game. However; there's usualy a range of server types on Hyperlobby; so don't panic over patches; you'll probably still be able to find a server to fly on what ever your patch level; Server admins are just as scared about screwing their machines with a bad patch as you are http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

5) The current version of the game is ver 4.05. A DVD containing the full game including new patches up to 4.07 (I believe) is due to be released before christmas.

Lyrics from Naked Raygun's "Rat Patrol".
"What we need to take control,we could use the Rat Patrol. What's that coming over the dune?...
Chasing the halftracks across the sandflats, got a nice pine box,for that desert fox, machine guns blaring, and Arabs staring wondering why,the Westerners are there. It's the same old story, and it'll happen again."
