Over at Firingsquad (http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/msi_geforce_fx5900-td128_review/default.asp) the have a new videocard test using
IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles (The Black Death track)
as one of test benchmarking tools, head over there and
have a look yourself.

Hmm, it's a toughie. I think I'll probably go with the Ultra 5900 just since I've been with Nvidia for a while.

I am shocked.

My cutting edge Radeon 7500 is not on the list. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Is that 5900 Ultra 128 or 256mb?

Oh it's a 128. For sure I'm gonna get the 256. Building my own dream machine in august.

i dont want to sound like a fanboy, but it should be pointed out that Nvidias aa is no where near atis.
Nvidias 4x is equivlent to ati's 2x.

heres what i mean
you'll have to copy and past the links.
nvidias 4x.

atis' 4x
http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_fx_5900_ultra/images/34.jpg

best place to see the difference is on the right wing(left wing from pilots pov) on the lower aircraft.

so those 4xaa,8xansi benchmarks are quite missleading.
if you benchmarked ati at 2x, vs nvidia at 4x (antiailiasing), then you'd have a fair benchmark of performace of the cards at equal quality.

Nice. This is another test showing that 256MB version of the cards do not offer any performance advantage except at very high resolutions, as is shown at Tom's Hardware, and that improvements are negligible (all 256MB versions runs hotter due to different memory used). Also, comparing highest frame rates of IL2 FB with any FPS game it is obvious how even the best video cards available today are "not enough".

I believe someone already has pointed on this board that flight sims like IL2FB or FS2002/2004 are more CPU-bound. It would be interesting to compare the performances of systems with two physical hyper-threading processors (this means four logical processors) with single-processor system.

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I think you are right there, I never noticed that before
but it really looks like the NVIDIA 4xAA gives the same
as quality ATI 2xAA, is this an other NVIDIA cheat or has
NVIDIA more levels of AA, in that case it would not be
fair to compare NVIDIA AA with ATI AA and I can not
imagine al the bench markers doing that?
