I'm a very big flight-sim fan and the IL-2 series is definitely my choise (CFS III - bleh!)

I really love to study WW1 and WW2 battles, but not the eastern front and the IL-2 game is set at the eastern front...

Bad luck for me, such a great flight-sim and even tho' it's set at the easter front...

I would like to see the western, northern or the pacific (mmmm Corsair F4U) next time

Do anyone agree with this?

I think that after the avalanche of flight sims located in Western Europe , Atlantic and Pacific , this is just a wise choice by placing the conflict in Eastern Europe. I can only salute Oleg's decision to offer us the opportunity to fly over the unfriendly skies of Eastern Europe during the WW2.
Now only if they will include a Romanian map , especially Ploesti area.

HMm my opinion is to keep the fight on those not-so-well-known battles.. like the whole eastern front.. as they were the most horrible battles in the whole war.. Besides if this game would go to Western front I think we would need some modification to game engine.. as high altitudes in FB doesn't look so good in my view...

Welcome to the Il-2 and FB community.

The fact that Oleg Maddox, the lead developer of Il-2, focused on an area, namely Eastern Europe, that had been ignored by others is seen as a primary strength of the game.

To continue that concept, we are encouraging Oleg to move into other ignored areas, such as the Mediterrean, North Africa, and Southern Europe.

It is believed that this will generate more interest than moving to the area that have been done again and again, such as the Battle of Britain, Western Europe, and the Pacific.

Which is not to say that Il-2 shouldn't eventually move into those areas, just that they shouldn't be next on the list.

Prior to playing the original IL-2 I had little interest in the Eastern Front. Being from the US, all we really ever hear about is how "we" won the war in Europe and in the Pacific. I am so happy to have my eyes opened to see the Eastern Front, and the struggles and sacrifices there!

And, I never really knew anything about Russian planes, just heard about the land war. Thanks Oleg--(now just fix the bugs!)

I'm with Cossack on this point... For me Il-2 was more interesting because it dealt with an "unusual" WW2 theatre.
I'd like to see Oleg tackle the Med next... no-one's done that yet /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I myself have studied WW2 for many years and have always been obsessed with the Eastern Front. However,as much as i like it.. `this sim is too good to be restricted to just one part of the war.

You don`t like the Eastern Front?Pitty...

"IL2 Sturmovik" was so a big hit(in flightsim community at least) because it fulfilled the market niche.Eastern front was the best choice there was to make IMO.

I'm glad that Mr. Maddox chose to do the ETO, as I'd never really studied or read about the VVS.

The original sparked my interest and I turned my historical focus (I am a high school history teacher)to the VVS, and since have learned quite a bit!

So, I'm very happy with Oleg's decision to do the ETO.

yeah, northern Africa, the southern europe and the mediterranean whoulda been awesome, but in my opinion the landscape over the eastern front doesn't look so interesting in a flight sim...

And IL-2 is such a gr8 game, the models are 100% accurate as they look like in real-life and so on, and it woulda been very interesting over the Pacific with this awesome game wit it's great graphics

And as I said, Northern Europe like Sacndinavia woulda been gr8 aswell, Denmark and Norway was figthing in that war, and now that's two countries with really forgotten battles...!

Flying over the norwegian mountains in a Fokker bi-plane (the norwegian air-force really shot down many BF's with 'em!) and flying over the green nice landscape of Denmark in a Spifire, doghfighting against a BF...

Im sure they will come up with different theater addons for fb after the game engine, netcode and other small problems are all resolved.

i bought it (il2) because it was the eastern front.

After it was refeuled i climbed in.With many manipulations the mechcanics started the turbines.I followed their actions with the greatest of interest. The first one started quite easily.the second caught fire.In no time the whole engine was on fire.Luckily as a fighter pilot i was used to getting quickly out of the cockpit. The fire was quickly put out.The second plane caused no trouble - Adolf Galland (first time in a ME262)

I thank Oleg for making a eastern front game, before i bought IL-2 i thought the russians had only biplanes and crappy planes to fight the Luftwaffe, and that the good planes were over the western front. Silly me /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif . At least now i know the VVS had some very good planes, and i think it's good to kill stereotypes /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
