try catalyst 4.12 beta. I get +10fps http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
go to http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4701.html
to download
Run the package to decompress and cancel instalation. Go to C:\ATI or where u decompress it and find the file atioglxx.dl_.
Execute the following command: 'expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll' to get the driver.
Copy atioglxx.dll to IL2 Sturmovik directory.

please specify more clearly how to execute the expand command. In msdos mode? Via "Run"? How exactly do you do it?

open a msdos window, go to the directory where the file 'atioglxx.dl_' is and type 'expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll'
I you dont want to use msdos command window to get access to that directory, just copy the file to the directory where the msdos command window appears, for example to C:\Documents and Setting\[user]' and execute the expand command there.
S!

Sorry I can't get it to work. I'm using an old computer at work running Windows 98 and the "expand" command is not in that version of DOS.

The 'expand' command is available in windows 98, even in msdos too. Perhaps you dont find it because your 'Path' variable do not include the directory where this file is.
For example, in windows XP the file is in C:\windows\system32 and of course this directory is in the 'Path' variable(I can see it typing the command 'set' in the msdos command window).
Try to find the file 'expand.exe' in your windows directory (or in your entire hard disk), and if u find it, copy it to the location where u have the file to decompress. Then it will work for sure.

heres another way, maybe simplier:

Download, but do not install, the Catalyst driver that contains the desired OpenGL driver.
Use WinZip to open the Catalyst driver with the desired OpenGL driver. To do this right click the Catalyst package, select WinZip, and then "Open With WinZip".
Search for the file atioglxx.dl_ - Double click that file.
A new iteration of WinZip will popup. This is normal. Highlight "atioglxx.dll" and select "Extract" from within WinZip. Extract it to the desktop or directly to your FB directory.
Use drag/drop to place desired OpenGL driver in your FB directory if extracted to desktop.

Check it out here:

This file is dated 6th November 2004. Some people have claimed that the 4.7 version is better, but as usual there's no one-shot cure for all of the people all of the time. Try it but don't fry it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Hope it works out for ya!

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot that it's the 4.12b you're after! Couldn't find that... if anyone else has a dedicated link, please share

I tried the beta, and now if I try to change my monitor refresh rate it crashes my PC back to the startup prompt.

I am confused

I downloaded and ran the ATI 4.11 and every thing was cool great improvement for me.

Everybody raved about 4.12 so I ran the uninstaller then installed the driver, can€t say I saw a huge difference and actually seemed to not run as smooth no graphic anomalies though so I uninstalled 4.12 reinstalled the 4.11 again..
Getting an average of 50+ fps on warclouds after an hour or so of play. Water =1 with 4.11s with ati 9800 pro 256

You guys are referring to installing a file to IL2 directory, are you also running the driver install or only the driver to IL2 directory.
Why is the file needed in IL2?

Please be specific, some of us don€t have a clue.

I have 4.11 installed. I don't like to install beta versions of any driver, just testing the atioglxx.dll driver from 4.12 copying it to the IL2 directory, and if it doesnt work better than the one from 4.11, I dont have to uninstall the entire driver (in case to have the entire 4.12 driver installed). I come back quickly to 4.11 just deleting the file atioglxx.dll (4.12) from the IL2 directory.

One more thing to solve the question:
when u install a catalyst driver, there is a file named atioglxx.dll (the OGL driver that the IL2 use) that is in c:\windows\system32 directory.
That is the file driver that IL2 uses, but if u put another atioglxx.dll file in the IL2 directory, the IL2 program is going to use this one (thus, this one in the IL2 directory has preference from the other one that is in the windows directory). So u can use 2 versions of the same file working in your system just copying or deleting the one from the IL2 directory, without having to install or uninstall the entire driver( 4.11 or 4.12)

Had the 4.12b for two days now and no problems yet. FPS went from low 20-40's to mid 40's-70's. Textures are incredible! No artifacts so far. Currently running FB/AEP and PF 3.1 (did not apply "new".exe) as stand-alones. Neither game has issues, both are beautiful. (guess I'm a lucky one.)

System:
Win XP Pro Service Pack 2
P4/3.2
2 Gb PC3200 RAM
ATI 9800XT
Audigy 2
nothing overclocked

Me no sabbie

When you place the ogl package of your choice in the FB directory, the sim uses it instead of the version installed in System 32. This allows you an option of having the "best" driver for gaming.

This is no longer being reccommended. I understand English but I don't understand whats being said in this thread or why. Will try to get clarification by PT.
