Once the allies have freed Italy, what business does a Uboat have in the Mediterranean? You are indeed operating behind enemy lines, but will the allies continue to send ship after ship into the med once the jerries are gone?

I transferred to a base there once, I would not do it again.

The pickings seem to be slim...I spent a year there and got so bored I wanted to commit suicide by sneaking into the Malta Port, Valletta (sp?)

No convoys in the Med. You may encounter task forces. The one thing the Med reliably has is air support.

And a good number of escorts near Valetta and Gibraltar... My two patrols there were utterly useless. I think I sank three Greek Small Merchants. THen I too comitted suicide at Valetta by going gung ho on the surface against a flotilla of Hunts (failed to see the others, then dived only to get carpetbombed).

(Checks letterbox again to see if my transfer papers to 11.Fltt have come in http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif)

Back on topic, the med is a good place if you feel like running a U-Flak boat and having the occasional chance at getting a taskgroup at sea. There are single ships about, but the convoys are really limited. The weather is also marginally better than around, say, Scotland. And, in terms of depth, the Med is pretty shallow.

I personally prefer the North Atlantic, but each to their own, I guess.

I'm currently in my 6th patrol in the Med. I have a total tonnage of around 80,000t. I see mostly small and costal merchants. I've seen I thik 3 C2 Cargos.

As a comparison I recently started a seperate career in the Atlantic. I sank 66,000t on my first patrol.

My point is that things are pretty slow in the Med. I think I'll hang around until after Operation Torch in November 42. If business doesn't pick up I'm gonna close up shop and head to the Atlantic for good.

P.S. If I ask for a transfere does that me I can keep my boat and run the Straits of Gibraltar like Das Boot!?

Valletta (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/8821008933/r/8821008933#8821008933) was my all-time fav port attack, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif but mostly the Med is about sunbathing on the deck, sipping shnapps and picking off the small merchants as they come by. There are a few small/medium convoys that can be totally wiped out and I met a solitary large convoy, but heavily protected by Fletcher DD's which look as big as cruisers when they come charging.

On the whole, the Med is boring, I shall not go there again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
