So, if your target is moving at light speed and your shooting a laser, do you have to lead 'em?

You should visit their forums:

That is WOW with a capital W, how friggin cool.
When is it out? The last space combat game I played was X-wing alliance and that was several years ago (I used to like the TIE Interceptor or as I called it the Empire's Zero).
I tried to play X2 (I really did try) but I found that it just all empire building, trade and general commerce c.rap rather than space combat and so I got bored of it in about 5 minutes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif.
I love Battlestar Galactica and I mean both the original and the re-imaged version (I like the re-imaged version just that teeny bit more though).
Is it confirmed that there will be no TIR support?, I hope not http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Warrington...its not a new game actually. Its a MOD of FreeSpace 2. Nobody knows about FreeSpace 2 but it was probably the pinnacle of space combat games. It adapted gameplay from both TIE Fighter and Wing Commander and put them into one...and quite successfully too. Very fortunately the game developers ...with a bit of encouragement from the community were kind of enough to make the game engine source code available to the community.

The result is that there is an entire team called the Source Code Project that is working on the source code of the old FreeSpace 2 engine. It now has DirectX8 or 9, OpenGL, and support for HT&L which the old engine did not. There is much more going on as well...Track IR support is not something to be confirmed or denied...someone could probably put it in if someone could make use of it.

Right now there is no cockpit system...the original game didn't have one...just a HUD. Someone IS working on the cockpit system so maybe after that something like 6DOF would be next.

Man space games piss me off. They always promise the cool but never deliver. Anyone play Terminus? That could have been THE game but some jackhole decided udp wasn't good enough they had to use TCP. Duuuh.

Yep i got BTRL http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It's excellent, a good way to relax after a demanding flight of IL-2 :P As a fan of the series, it feels really great to fly the MkII http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

if i designed a space combat game would be similar to this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2BFEWHty1s

something like following time tunnels

you would need two things keeping a good trajectory and knowing the shortways in the tunnels

Oh, really? There are 2 copies on ebay right now that are selling for $30+ that have buyers. I think I could get a decent price for it, but now I'll hold onto it.

Some people are buying copies if they are in good condition and have all the original bits and pieces. Mostly as collectors items...the code is open source and most of the content has been redone by fans to higher detail levels anyways.

I played the demo of I-war, seemed quite good.

Personally, I'm a massive fan of the original TIE Fighter, as well as Wing Commander 3 etc.

Freelancer was quite fun.

X3 was disappointing. Need more space games!

What I really want is more 'sim' and less arcade. My dream would be a space game made in the same way as IL2. Proper cockpits, heavy realism.

Yes, I realize that. I'm aware that the code is open source, have been since they released it. My copy of the game is in perfect condition with all the original material, it would sell if I wanted it to. Also, just because the code is open source doesn't mean that everyone can take advantage of that fact. That was the point I was trying to get across.
