i figured out why it wouldnt let people download. A simple mistake of my part, turns out the link is case sensitive http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
i also re-encoded it with divx, for those that dont want to be botherd(or have problems installing xvid)

so here again is the movie (link will take you to a page, then click the link on that page)

divx
http://earth.prohosting.com/00merlin/Stranger.avi

xvid
http://earth.prohosting.com/sb4/Stranger1.avi

xvid offers slightly higher quality, but you need the xvid codec

xvid codec
http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file=XviD_Install.exe

i am still looking for someone to host this movie, as only 60 people can download from each link before the bandwidth runs out http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

please offer your comments, and enjoy

what on earth?? it should work fine, you cant "save target as" you have to follow the links(left clicking).
but it should work fine. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

i found someone to host it, and am in the middle of trying to upload it

I left click the Divx version, as I have done with MANY *.avi files, it opens my Windows media Player, which then says an error of "Class not recognized" I do have the Dvix codec, and use it a lot, so that's not the problem.

Hopefully others are getting /viewing it.

some people at simhq have seen it. Dont know if they saw the divx version, or the xvid, i am assuming you have the "latest" divx codec installed, i encoded it(just for you i might add) with 5.0.5. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

a guy at simhq offered to host it, but my email refused to send the file, would "timeout" at 99.9% with an error. It really sucks i put all that time into making it, and either no one has seen it, or it sucks so bad no one will comment on it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I got it to download by disabling my browser integration in RealDownload. Then when I clicked the link in your post it took me to the Free ProHosting.com page with another link to click which started the file downloading to a temp folder, then opened Media Player automatically to play it.

How can I download it permanently so I can save it?

This is one of the best IL-2 videos I've seen to date! I like the music and really love the camera work. Excellent framing and flyby shots.

How about some credits? Did you do all of this by yourself flying against AI pilots, or was this a coop?

Great work! Please give us some more soon!!

yeah that really sucks, when i created the first acount on prohosting, it didnt have that bs linking thing, you could just save target as, or play it straight http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

you should be able to find it in your net cache, either in your temp internet folder, and/or in your windows/temp folder

thanks, it took a ton of work to get some of those shots, some scenes i recorded as much as 8 times, from different angles, so i could get the perfect sequence together.

i posted this video earlier, but all the patch stuff, blew it right off the first pages. In that post i mentioned, i had such problems with adobe, i couldnt get the sound effects in it, or add the credits in it. but i wrote the credits out in the post.

this was all me in, in qmb's, and 2 fmb missions. it took forever to get those 2 fws, to chase me past the static camera for the frst combat shot http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i also mentioned in the original post, when the plane addon comes out, i will put together a 10+ min video with a more obvious story behinde it, and all the bells and whistles i couldnt get adobe to put into this one http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've made an account at the site, and it keeps telling me to "Log In" to dl the file... but when I log it, it takes me away from the DL page and to my page...

Davinci, PM me and perhaps you could MSN me the movie.

you dont need an account to download it, the acount is for the hoster. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
you should just be able to left click the posted link, it should bring you to another page, and then left click that link.

then it "should", but apperently its not doing it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

also, i have adsl, with a 15k/s upload, msning the movie isnt such a hot idea

I am also trying to figure out how to view the movie. WMP, the default player, doesn't recognize it of course and I don't want to lose time changning defaults for IE. Since it's not simple to save to disk, I am going to try to open it via URL from DivX, but I can't find how to do that.

Still working on it. That hosting system is downright annoying, I would never use it. If there is another host I'd love to get it from him and make a mirror at Wiley's site.

Looking forward to the film,
Mike

I give up. I even tried directly downloading the file non-interactively from UNIX with the command "wget" and the Stranger.avi at that address is nothing other than a 3kB HTML file. Even studying the code of that webpage doesn't show how they redirect to the film. I can't figure out how to download it.

If anyone is willing to get it to me I'll be happy to host.

Ridiculous that website.

I'm sure someone will post the new host's address soon, then I can mirror it. I won't try again with the original URL though. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-indifferent.gif
