Finally found some time to prepare and post the pictures. Enjoy! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

We begin with the Messerschmitt Me-163B Rocket Interceptor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messerschmitt_Me_163). I think that climb rate of 12,000 meters in 3.35 minutes must have been incredible at that time! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Next up, the Fieseler F-103 or as it was known, "V1 Rocket" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-1_flying_bomb).

Anyone noticed that the Komet has swept wings. Was it to correct the COG? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

No, the airframe was always an Fi-103, manned or un-manned. Perhaps you are thinking of the Fi-103R Reichenberg. A little info on it here, and some other interesting stuff..

Yes, you're right, I was thinking of the 103-R. Interesting link, thanks.

Hey, they didn't always blowup on a bumpy landing, just some of the time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

It's quite difficult to land the Komet in IL-2, but in the air she's a fun plane - especially if you still have fuel onboard. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It still is...and that without pressurized cockpit is amazing from the pilots too. Read the book from Wolfgang Späte I think, about the experimental unit that went on with Me 163 - these guys had cojones - Mamma Mia...

By the way all those photos of V-1 and you missed V-2 completely? Deutsches Museum is my favourite, tops the actual aircraft museum in Oberschleißheim - not about the size but it is about the quality and the one in the city has by far the most interesting aircraft...

Too bad they didn't provide those lower windows in the game that your display photo has. Then I could see my crash landings a wee bit better. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Saw this one in the air:
http://freenet-homepage.de/majamaki/HPIM1423.JPG

It was extremely g@y, had it been a more shade of pink, instead of red it would have been the most g@y thing ever.

BTW, couple of Messerschmitts end of the war and post war http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif :

Agreed. Flying the Me-163B was suicidal - both your fuel and when you ran out of fuel (easy meat for prowling fighters). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Well I saw the V2 in the museum but I couldn't get a good shot of it. It's located in a type of tube environment which only allows you to photograph it from the tip of the rocket down when you're on the upper floor or the bottom half when you're standing on the ground floor. They wouldn't have made good shots. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Thatswhy I love landing the Heinkel He-162! The cockpit is really low to the ground and that little window that's usually covered by the retracted landing gear is really helpful! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
