I don't get it....... you make the best WW2 combat sim on the market.... and you make it harder to find than dinosaur eggs. What gives?? I work in a retail store as a second gig... I talk about simming and FB to anyone who will listen..... yet when they want to experience the sane sensation that makes my eyes kinda glaze over when I talk about FB they can't...because they can't find the d@mn sim anywhere!!!! Yet that CFS3 thing is still on the shelves......and selling for $49..... You have an add on coming out for a sim that no one can find.......... DUHHHHHH!!!! You say you don't want piracy..yet you almost create an atmosphere for it by making the thing so scarce....COME ON!!!! Get with it!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Do you really think this is UBI's fault?

Or at the retailers just not ordering it because it only costs $20.

A couple of weeks ago I found a second copy (for my g/f who like FB as well as GR) at CompUSA. They had a bunch...

I almost bought them all!!

I see its getting hard to find but I must live right or something because every time I'm at Comp USA they always have a few on shelf.

To anyone wanting to gift someone with this most excellent of simms, hop a jet to Phoenix, ask directions to Arrowhead Town Center mall on Bell Rd. and 79th Ave.

What annoyed me is the day FB shipped I walked into EB (Electronics Boutique) and asked if FB was in yet. The two clerks with a puzzled look replied "Forgotton Batttles...whats that" I said you know...part 2 of the greatest WW2 flight sim ever created. They replied "Nope never heard of it". Then I say...how about IL2 Sturmovik, surely you heard of that. They reply "Hmm, nope never heard of that one either...is it like CFS 3 something?" At this time I turned around and walked out of the store whithout even bothering to check the shelves for myself and headed to Walmart where I purchased the game. I havent purchased a game at EB since and have no plans too.
UBI how about putting the same marketing power behind your flight sim as you do your first person shooters. Just a thought.

Oh! And the Walmarts around here still carry IL2 and FB or you can buy both in a pack. I live in PA, USA and if your familiar with Altoona, Lewistown, and Bedford PA you will be happy to find that all the Walmarts in these towns carry both games. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's a shame but IL2 just isn't as marketable as the 'First Person' shooters. With FPS games the public knows what to expect and they can just jump on in there probably without even reading the instructions. They also only require a mouse and keyboard for expert control. Something I'm sure all PC's have http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Il2 is a game/sim of skill with a larger learning curve than any FPS game I know.
For anybody new to the game who has not had experience of flight sims they will initailly have a tough time. Crashing on take-off and not being able to understand why they aren't getting any kills even though they have their enemy right on their cross-hair. Deflection shooting being something they have never heard of.
You also need the right hardware to get the best out of the game. Impossible to play with just a mouse and a keyboard, and requiring a joystick with at least rudder control.

The point I'm making is that FB isn't as marketable as some of the more hands-on games and is more of a specialist item and can't be accepted by a lot of gamers out there. A shame really that some people won't give it more of a chance.

CFS on the other hand is more arcadey and easier to play, but not our cup of tea here.

Picked up my copy here in the UK at Virgin Megastore for 15. Best money I ever spent... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My old Saitek Cyborg 3d crapped out a while ago.

I used to own a PII 450mhz system, and I downloaded the IL-2 original demo when it came out: the menu was unuseable. So I put it out of my mind. 1.5 years ago I built my current system, and about 1 year ago I wandered into a link to the same demo . . which I downloaded.

A week after that I walked into CompUSA and bought a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold and a copy of FB.

And it was a week only because I had to wait to get my monies.

Interesting thread Bearcat. I agree you.

I just arrive two weeks ago to Yokota AB, Japan and went to the Base Exchange (BX) here at the base and found that they have two copies of IL-2 Forgotten Battles for $18.99. I also almost brought them myself. I haven't had a chance to see if anyone here plays the game as of yet. There is a computer group that meets on saturdays...will check them out.

I agree Scragbat's take on the learning curve of IL-2 against right out of box "First Person Shooter" games like "Call of Duty", which in fact is a excellent game.

I talk to people all the time about IL-2 but no one seems very interested in the game we love. Doesn't make sinse....but true.

Happy New Year

Simmers are an interesting bunch. No serious enough to do the real thing, not arcade enough to play anything that doesn't require several controlers and a whole host of key commands, and totally unwilling to compromise on realism while still trying to have fun and have great graphics at the same time.

Simmers are indeed probably the most demanding of all gamers. You certainly don't see arguments over relative performance of a given object in any other type of game forum.

The STG44 in Medal of Honor was completely overmodelled. I was able to almost instantly kill all opposition from any range while doing a bat turn that should have forced me into blackout. I think the DM of the weapons in the game is porked and the energy modelling for the player character is way too arcade.

But that's just my opinion.
