Due to the person having the words B.M.F. (initals for the sake of decorum) on both his wallet and the weapon in question, The circumstantial evidence points to that the weapon does indeed belong to the suspect.

This AP wirephoto shows him handing his wallet to the police shortly after the suspect and an associate were having an allegedly philosophical discussion. Customers said that they overheard bits and pieces about luck, fate, pumpkin pie, sewer rats, and Kung Fu:
