Hi,

This seems lie a stupid question, but I work out How to change the pilot portrait in the pilot profile screen found during campaigns. The Manual says that the file name should be under the pic, but I cant find it.
How do I change the pilot pic? The man with the stupid leather hat is annoying.

Cheers

Fish

PS: I've only recently become an Il2 junky, shoulda picked this game up ages ago!

The annoying man with the stupid leather hat is Oleg Maddox.

From the FB v1.0 readme:

8. Replacing faces in Campaign mode

If you wish to see your own face in the pilot roster under your record, simply replace the stock "Photo.bmp" located in the DGen subfolder of your Forgotten Battles installation. The image should be 192x256 pixels in size, and have Windows palette 256 colors. It does not have to be black and white.
If you wish to change faces of your squadmates, replace the numbered bitmaps under the corresponding country folder. These bitmaps should also be 192x256 pixels, Windows palette 256 colors. While that's not required, when replacing other pilot skins you should also update the corresponding pilot skin in the \PaintSchemes\Pilots subfolder. If you don't do that, the correct face will show up in pilot roster, however in the game engine the pilot will still keep the old face.

At least you can see them. After all this time I have yet to figure out to even see these pics ingame. In the career section I don't see a list for fellow pilots or my self, only options for rank???

Instructions are probably in the manual, but its burried in a pile of other **** near by here somewhere http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Toad,

The portraits are seen in dynamic campaigns if you look in the profile area for any pilot. For example, if you open Pilot Career and then highlight any career in progress, you'll see an option for "Roster"; click that and then click on any name and you'll see a green button marked "Profile" appear at the bottom right corner of the screen. Click that and you'll get a dossier on that pilot.

When you load a career, you'll see a brown button marked "Profile" at the bottom of the mission briefing screen. Click the button and on the next screen you'll be able to review your roster of pilots the same way as I described above.

The main thing is that you have to be flying a dynamic campaign; the roster appears with DGen for sure and I believe with Lowengrin's DCG as well. I opened some scripted campaigns (On Our Way to Victory, Russia At War, Fights in Balkans, Battle Of Britain, Rebirth of Honor demo) and confirmed that the "Roster" option does not appear in these campaigns.

I tested all this out just now in FB+AEP. I would have opened PF(m) to test but it takes too long to launch. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've made a couple of my own profile pics using pictures of figures I found on the internet. I saved them as bitmap images with these specs in Photoshop:

192x256 at 72 pixesl/inch resolution
Indexed Color
8 bits per channel.

I tried to upload some I made, but it seems that Photobucket changes .bmp files to JPEG files. Anyway, if you can change them back here they are. You'll have to remove the "_suffix" from the name to use:

Noooooo!!! There he is again take it awya, take it away! I hate that pic!

I cant seem to find a photo.bmp file in the dgen file. If I put a pic in with that file name, will it work?

@skycat: are your "models" action men?

They're from various sites, but the US Navy pilot, the RAF pilots and one of the German pilot pics definately are "action figures." The Japanese pilot, the US Army pilot and three German pilot pics are from a site that sells resin busts. I don't know if I could find the source site if I tried ...

You must already have the photo.bmp in the correct folder, otherwise you wouldn't be getting ol' leather hat. In your game's main folder open the subfolder named DGen and it should be in there. Don't look in the nationality folders inside "DGen."
