View Full Version : Assassin's Creed 2 Intelligence Winner?

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice from anyone in the know, or Mods if possible.

I don't know how many of you remember the Assassin's Creed 2 Intelligence game that was on the Ubisoft website. You had to spot hidden items in pictures within a time limit. Nothing too engaging, but there were sweepstakes you could enter after playing to win some shiny stuff.

I received an email from "The Game Agency" this week saying that I had won one of the minor prizes: a copy of Assassin's Creed 2 (which I already have, natch) and an Ezio figurine. In order to claim the prize, I have to send a copy of my driving licence and sign a (very) short form to say I am in fact who I say I am.

The company did produce the website for Ubisoft, and the names in the email check out, and their email addresses appear to be genuine (match with various listings of individuals around the web and all linked to The Game Agency), and the link for the return email actually does what it says (not a hidden alternative email). The T&Cs from the original competition (still on the website) do say that the sponsor may ask for ID in the form of driving licence or one of several other formats.

I guess I'm just having trouble believing that I've actually won a prize! Having said that, before I send my identity off to someone I don't know... does anyone have any way (or suggestions of possible ways) that I might use to check that this is on the straight and level?

I've put a copy of the email below so that you can make your own minds up.

Cheers!

Subject: Congratulations Owen! Assassin's Creed 2 Intelligence Sweepstakes Winner!

The Game Agency

Hello Owen,

You recently played Assassin’s Creed® 2 Intelligence and entered the sweepstakes to win prizes from Intel and Ubisoft. Guess what? You won! I’m writing to congratulate you on winning a third place prize in Assassin’s Creed® 2: Intelligence Sweepstakes.

In order for you to be eligible for your prize – a copy of Assassin’s Creed II for PC and an Ezio Auditore di Firenze figurine – you need to provide The Game Agency with a copy of your valid driver’s license or government issued identification, address, and contact phone number. In order to be eligible, you must be a legal resident of the United Kingdom, Ireland, France or Germany. Employees, officers, directors and representatives of The Game Agency, (“Sponsor”), Ubisoft Entertainment and Intel Corporation and each of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, and divisions and immediate family members (spouse and parents, siblings and children and each of their spouses) and persons living in the same households of each of the above are ineligible to enter or win a prize. You can mail a copy of your identification and the attached signed form to the address above or scan both and email them to [email removed]

Winners release The Game Agency from any and all liability and responsibility with respect to the prize (including any property loss, damage, personal injury or death) and in connection with any lost, late, stolen, misdirected, damaged or destroyed prizing (or any element thereof). Winners acknowledge that the aforementioned individuals and entities have neither made nor are in any manner responsible for any warranty, representation or guarantee, expressed or implied, in fact or in law, related to a prize.

Thank you,

The Game Agency

Well, it would be nice to know that the offer is genuine before I give my entire identity to a stranger!!!

Why exactly do they need a copy of my driving licence, anyway? It seems a bit extreme for a simple competition.

well how do they know your name?

I am checking into this for you.

I am guessing they need the drivers licence/ ID for age verifying purposes, since the game and competition would have been age rated.

But I will check on this before you send anything, just in case.

well, entering the competition sort of suggests that your a fan, and well you'd expect a fan of the series to buy the game.

You asked to see the winning emails.. ?

If you want to know who won, then there should be a list published once all the winners have been contacted. data protection etc does not allow for info to be published before permission is granted.

If you won, you should know by now, assuming your email was correct.
