Ok well when i was waiting for Assassins Creed Brotherhood i was really exited about the different horses we could choose from but there were only 3 and the war horse would just go slower... so i was disappointed but what about you? and why?

I liked how Ubisoft allowed guards to ride them. Also the different weapons that one can use on horseback really adds to the gameplay.

I can't be bothered about the little variety of horses, yet the fact that you couldn't 'sprint' anymore troubled me.

The riding mechanics were a step down from AC1. If they combined the riding mechanics of AC1 with the other mechanics (hijacking, guards on horses, peasants on horses) from AC:B, it'd be good. But overall, I majorly disliked horse riding in AC:B because it wasn't as good as AC1.

If they had able us to run if we long press feet buttom and to stand up if we only press it for less than 1 second it would be perfect but how it's now, it's just ok :S

I dislike the horses in ACB.
They're slow and feel clunky to use in the streets (it's understandable though, big city and all so horse Galloping in streets would be hell difficult). I wish that the horses were able to gallop in open field areas instead of ONLY in like 1-2 missions.

Yes, apart from it freezing every time you rode one for a certain amount of time.
It made travelling through rome alot faster but sometimes not roomy enough to do so.

For some reason when ACII came out, I remember thinking to myself that I liked the horses in AC1 better. Don't remember what it was. Maybe it was the way you couldn't ride thru certain types of terrain as easily. For example, using a horse in Forli was a nightmare IMO.

But anyway, Ubisoft could learn a thing or two from Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption. Probably the best horses in the gaming industry.

wasn't in RDD where you needed to press X in a certain timming to get the horse to run corretly?...

Red Dead Redemption had far better horse mechanics and they were much better looking. However, I'm not sure the controls would work for AC. For Revelations I would like my own horse that's all 'assassinized'.

No. Hold X to maintain speed. Tap it to increase speed. This makes it so you can ride your horse at varying speeds, with the slowest being simply pressing forward on the joystick. Want to trot a little faster? Press X twice. Faster? Keep going. etc etc.

They were the best mechanics really. But AC1 had simple enough controls that would do just fine.

Though if you wanted to continually move at the horses top speed you had to keep pressing X, and use horse pills of course.

Seriously?

I mean with SO many gameplay issues..you're polling about Horses??? ....types of Horses?

What about Stealth? Notoriety? balanced combat? new mechanics? New AI units? Deeper customization? Assassin Brotherhood?

Guys...the AC community is a large one and due to this size it is also quiet influential. PLEASE pull head out of rear and voice opinions..logical, sound opinions about the above...do so to make AC:R a better game. Take into account feasibility and time budget and let your MAJOR concerns be heard...not some trivial nonsense about the color of Ezio's fur cap or the types of horses.

That had to be the most pointless post I have ever read, and that's saying something. You honestly think Ubi pays any mind to the endless amounts of suggestion threads? You think this thread will make Ubi put less focus on the important parts of the game? You sir, are delusional. These threads are simply for fans to post their ideas whether Ubi takes them into account or not. If this thread took off maybe Ubi would pay the suggestion some attention, but in that case it may be warrented.

For me this thread is a welcome sight as it is a new topic which I have thought about quite a bit. Especially since going straight from Assassin's Creed to Red Dead Redemption. But I digress, maybe you're right, we should keep creating threads about the same old topics and discuss them some more http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

WaaaaAAAAA!

Here you go...
http://moneysavingmom.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/211_kleenex.jpg

When was the last time you took a good hard look at the endless AC DEV credits at the end of a game? Do you honestly think there is only a handful of people working on the game or something? For all we know, they probably have ONE person, two people, or ten people working on JUST the horses in this game.
I'm sure THEY are looking for ways to improve the use of the horses even further considering it has been something that they have mentioned in the past(in case you weren't paying attention). And what better way, as a developer, to find out what your customers/players/fans are looking for then to have a treasure trove of information on their official forums?

Some people just like to complain, seriously.

If Ubi wants to fix the horse riding system all they need do is look to RDR. I'm not saying switch completely just a little reference for things they can improve. I love the jumping from horses to building/other horses in AC. The main thing that's great about RDR horse riding sytem is the realism (both in controling them and their appearance, I mean seriously look at their leg muscles!), and realism is also a major thing that makes AC great.

They need to make it more personal. I kept losing MY horse. I want MY horse. RDR did a good job at this.

They are alright, but not great. That said, they also aren't downright horrible.

To completely honest, starting Brotherhood after coming off of Red Dead Redemption, the horses are ridiculously bad. I can't judge with that viewpoint, though, because Red Dead Redemption has the best horses in the industry.

Still, I find myself hating the horses in Brotherhood, and I don't ride them as I find them clumsy, ugly and with an odd animation that bothers me quite a bit. Not to mention how they handle like robots and not like horses, like RDR's. They also look horrid compared to RDR's, and I can't help comparing the two. I wish I didn't but it's automatic.

It also felt like they were random objects that you grabbed as you ran along. Again, RDR outshines the game in this respect. Early in RDR I got a Kentucky Saddler and I kept him right up until just before I got the American Saddlebred, when he walked into the middle of a gunfight in Mexico.
I was so sad to lose him. He was Horse! He was so loyal, and had been with me all that time.

Whenever my horse dies in RDR I make John commit suicide so I can respawn and have horse alive and well.

Hey, at least they're better than the ones in Oblivion! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

No i didn't. They were worse than in AC2, and i don't get how you can go backwards.

1) They got stuck everywhere, wouldn't jump over the simplest things. Wouldn't jump up or down. They wouldn't jump out of trot, only canter. In AC2 they jumped when you trotted.

2) You couldn't gallop, meaning people that were chasing you could keep up, or it took you forever to loose them.

3) They disappeared each and every time i got off for something. Had to keep bloody whistling, because i want to keep my horse.

4) Ezio's riding is aweful. You do not sit with your legs and feet like that and stay on.

5) Again, as in AC2, they kept neighing each and every time they went over a jump. Horses don't do this in real life.

6) Movement was the same as AC2, which means, it looks like a camel, especially bad in trot.

7) Colours were wrong. I'd be happy with plain black, white and brown.

Honestly, the last 4 points aren't deal breakers. But it's the little things that matter isn't it.

And yes, i understand this isn't a horse riding game. But being able to utilise the horse more (which is what we wanted, and thanks to Ubi for giving us this), they should have improved it. They just felt heavy and clunky.

I really want horses in ACR. I just want them to be better. Especially the mechanics of it all.

A majority of the suggestions and ideas on the thread are as useful as THIS thread. Pointless, baseless wish lists not in touch with reality. No wonder the devs dont give two about them. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

AC:R is coming up. Make polls to Put the major problems on the forefront...not fluffy nonsense like 'Horses'. No need for 'Ideas' voice your concerns regarding the CORE GAMEPLAY in AC.

But hey...the gameplay you want Ponies and Horses...would you like some rainbow chocolate and magic beans as well?

And when was the last time you ACTUALLY paid attention to the gameplay? Which takes precedence in Assassin's Creed...Crowd mechanics or Horses? What about a more challenging combat system? What about implementing a deeper Assassin squad mechanic? what about fleshing out the stealth? What about the annoying trial and error 100% sycnh requirements?
But NOOOOooOOOOoOo...you'd like Ubi to waste resources on Horses. I mean why not...No need for the above mentioned....it's only a game about Assassins right? Horses are super important!!!

Back on topic: I don't know why he has the opinion he does on the matter. For me the addition of horses as a means of locomotion in a video game is a relatively new and great idea. I know for me AC1 was the first game I ever played with horses as a mode of transportaion. So AC came up with it(as far as I know) but RDR perfected it while AC took a step back.

AC:R is supposed to have ziplines for fast travel, and while in AC:B horses were a cute addition to city travel they really only got in the way and convoluted things.
Creed is cutting edge, and with that comes a lot of discrepancies, the addition of pointless horse mechanics to city travel only adds to the mess, they should be removed and used just for inter city travel like AC1 for the players who really want to use them.

well i really do agree with you on how the incorporated horses into the game more ( they did an excellent job) id just prefer it if there were more types.

guys i didnt make this poll for people to argue like this... i just wanted your thoughts and ideas.

people who think this poll about horses are stupid and a waste of time- your wrong, see the assassin's creed franchise is constantly aiming to get a 90 plus with each game and the only way to do that is to fix all the little problems and get the best possible game

People who think horses are very important to the game your wrong too. its just the horses and they arent that bad.. all then need to do is make them faster and add more types if u ask me. and this poll is stupid... thats why i made the option of making a option '' this is stupid''... and voted for it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

this poll is just an optional bonus... it doesnt have to be taken seriously

liked the different types of horse but the armour on the warhorse didnt seem to make much difference apart from making it slower which was good for realism but amour should protect it better-maybe have a horse health bar when riding one and it decreases as the horse takes more hits

i thought combat on horseback was pretty boring, just a load of button smashing but im sure vast improvements will be made for ACR in terms of skill, variety and difficulty

i could understand the slower speeds of the horses as you are in a city but i was annoyed that you couldnt gallop when in the country side areas of rome, but not such a big problem

i think there nees to be a greater variety in terms of manoveuring the horse, the RDR horses were really good where if you tired it out from making it gallop too much it would rear up and throw you off its back

in ACR there should be purchasable horses that vary in speed, agility, stamina etc. would certainly add variety to the game and make it more interesting

you should then be able to customise your horse with saddles and armour and other stuff so you actually look after your horse and feel the need to take care of it. if your horse dies in a combat situation you have to get a new horse and re-equip it maybe or you can have say a maximum of three horses with different features, one could be designed for travelling so has lots of stamina, one could be designed for speed so is good for escaping or pursuing and one could have armour on so it is designed for combat situations

I liked the horses in Brotherhood better than the other games, as they won't follow you around unless you call them, but my only complaint was that the you couldn't gallop unless you were outside of Rome (such as in a Lair of Romulus or other special mission outside of Rome). Still, I hope that horses comeback in Revelations the way they appeared in Brotherhood (only this time with the gallop ability back).

A couple of things that bothered me about ACB's horses:

- the white horses (and possibly the duns as well) galloped slower;
- the horses' tails wagging like a dog's while walking.

I haven't played RDR, but the horse in Shadow of the Colossus was quite realistic. The only problem with him was that if you were galloping flat out and turned him even slightly he'd slow down.
On a map as large as Rome it was very useful to have the horse but annoying to try to avoid citizens and outrun guards in the city.

And horses used to be trained to attack as well in battle...

I liked the horse-riding in ACB. It was much better than the first two games. I liked being able to assassinate from horseback with so many different weapons, as well as being able to jump from my horse onto buildings & beams, etc. That was pretty cool. They also re-rendered the horse so it looked less skinny and more thick and appropriately sized. Loved being able to ride the horse in the cities -- the only change I would have Ubisoft make is to have the citizens get out of the way sooner so it didn't feel like you were running everyone over.

like in RDR there should be consequences for knocking someone over while on horseback, like maybe the citizen calling for guards, or the citizen happens to have a dagger and starts to attack you but if you kill them you gain notoriety and lose support from the people. it would add to social interaction which needs a lot of improvement

*cuf* *cuf* the idea of notoriety for citzens is mine :X

as for horse custom i think it could be MMORPG like...

Speed
Health
Attack

Adding health would make the armor increanse and make speed discreanse (maybe 1 points in health is 1 point less in speed) and attack would add armor in horse's head so horses can attack with their heads.. the growing of the horse could be bsed on how much time did you mount them (1 exp point per minute) and how much guys did you kill while on them (10 exp per kill)... there could be 5 levels of each so horses would require 20 levels to be in max (10 speed + 5 health + 5 attack) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

They were ok. My only complaint is that they were wayyy too slow. I sometimes felt I could just walk faster which I'm not sure is true, it's prob not but the horse is noticeably faster in the other games. I did like how you can jump off buildings onto your horse like zorro. That was a good touch.

I knew there was something that bugged me a little about horses.

I didn't mind much - I basically viewed the horses as a mid-distance fast-travel system.

In any case, I think lack of identity with the horses was the biggest problem. I'd whistle and some horse (any horse) would come trotting up to me.

I think the idea of having your own personal horse (which comes when you whistle) is a good one. You could add a little bit of depth by only allowing some horses to attack, so that randomly jacking a passer by's horse would only be good for a getaway.

It would also give us something else to spend money on - training the horse to learn new tricks, buying better, lightweight armor.

I like the way The Saboteur handled a similar mechanic (car, instead of horses). You could - at a garage (stable) choose which car (horse) you wanted (fast, or more weaponised, more stealthy) and when you called that car showed up.

I liked having the option to ride a horse but didn't use them 2 much.

My problem was that if you were in a fight a guy on a horse would walk right through the fight.

And just too many in the city streets which were already crowded with people.

Those 2 thing 2 me are the only big problems
