A simple question: how are you getting the most fun out of Il2? I want to find inspiration and fresh new ideas ... feel free to be lenghty, descriptive, detailed ...

Thx,

apart from flying,

at the moment from flying co-ops, not something i'd ever done before recently, really good fun.

Flying with my squad, working on Team-Based Tactics.

It is fun and all to fly with strangers on hyperlobby... but that gets boring pretty quick. I find working as a team is much more rewarding even if it is only an AI you are killing.

Also, check out SEOW http://seow.sourceforge.net/ It adds an RTS element to the game. It is also VERY complex and does take a bit of technical knowhow to set up but once you are set up... you are golden http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

Hard question... because there is so much possible fun with this game.

#1 on the list; thing I never did in the game before. Any thing. But nowadays I can rarely find such things http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

#2 in co relation to #1, flying a new planes, especially the ones I like. That being said I can't wait for Hs-129.

#3 level bombing stuff. I find it really hard to beat bullseye accurate drop from +5000m on realistic settings.

#4 destroying ground objects with attack plane.
Load my IL-2, take off with Zveno fly together to the target point obliterate everything that stands & moves try to make personal score with 5+ targets destroyed (thankfully there are no real killstealers in this "game") and RTB without casualties.

This is about it.

Pure fighter stuff like bomber interceptions/escorting, fighter sweeps, dogfights amuse me nowadays just as if I watch paint dry.

Have you tried mission building Insuber?

It's rewarding and highly addictive! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

The air racing was wicked fun when that first came out. It was an idea that I had never seen before.
Even my squadron had a few flight session on the racing circuits.

1. Coop flying with my sqaud m8s. This has completely spoiled me for using (the nearly useless) friendly AI in solo mode.

2. Digging up other peoples' hard work, i.e. missions, on mission4today and giving them a try. I've modded a few of them for our squad's coops.

3. Doing everything I can do to maximize IL-2 eye-candy; the mods have really done good in this department.

Aside from the usual flying, I like to mod skins and map textures as well as build missions.
I've been focusing more on the MTO maps. The central MTO map looks to be to scale which could make for an interesting full real mission. I've tested a few planes and it would take two hours from takeoff, to target, to landing. That doesn't include dog fights or having to divert a course around a battle area. I'm not sure how many people would be interested in that sort of thing. Last time i tried to coop with a fraction of that amount of time and most people had left after about 10 minutes of flight. It might be better for an offline game.

Flying carrier-based bombers. Nothing more satisfying than putting torps and bombs in stuff and then saying "I SANK YOUR BATTLESHIP".

Nice long flights with a bomber, getting to your goal with navigation, and frustrating the fighter jocks as they can not find you.

Vulching. There's just something satisfying about all the swearing that occurs aftwewards that makes one grin.

It's the best when you sneak behind enemy lines...without being seen.... find half a dozen of them on the tarmac and rocket them.

Me and 2 other guys once managed to catch about 15 pilots all taking off at once on warclouds. We had a lot of fun.

Lol with the Lerche racing! Used to do some air races back in the days of the original IL2 but nothing quite like that or on a course built that well. It reminds me of a mix between F-Zero and Pod Racing from that first of the new crappy star wars movie.

I haven't done it in awhile but I really miss doing multi-crew bomber coops.. It's a blast when you have 4 of your friends all up in a TB-3 getting owned by 109's trying to make it to the target.

Online wars. The planning, the tactics, the teamwork, the friendly harrasment with the "enemy" and the chatter with squadmates and whoeever else is at voice comms.

Vulching has a lot to be said for it, I only indulge occasionally but raiding a base and getting away with it is most satisfying.

One of the best times I had on this game has to be Whale Wars. You take 2 or more TB3's on a small map, everyone meets in the middle, and have at it.

Ah good old times, I still remember shooting the LA-7 guy in my J8A (that was the most extreme case of online shame displayhttp://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif).

Great fun and endless laughs, especially at people frustration when I used to shoot Spits and La7s on an humble Ishak I-152 ... the real uber plane some patches ago ...

Yay, although, I'd never try such a disparate match (and it won't be possible on the historical servers).
It actually isn't very difficult to win with an inferior airplane, because half the fight is already won when the opponent is overconfident; even good pilots manage to loose all their energy or get suckered into TnB in no time, when they expect an easy kill. It's fun, most of the time.

I enjoy basically every flying aspect of it but having a good time with the squad is second to none. Actually I'd tie squad sessions with JO sessions. Both very good fun indeed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I like viermotor interceptions (best in under gunned aircraft) and I also like the challenge of carrier operations (on the smaller carriers).

As for me, I started playing Il-2, because I just couldn't figure out how to avoid strafing convoys without crashing into them. After nearly 6 years of hard training, discipline, learning, forum reading, practicing etc, I can finally say with absolute certainty that I am still on the same level, didn't improve a bit.

Your fav Il2 activity?

At the moment:

High altitude precision bombing. Hitting stationary (moored in the dock etc.) ships from 20.000 ft is highly challenging.

Antitank missions with dedicated antitank planes (Hs-129 with 75mm gunpod http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif, IL-2Type3M, HurricaneMkIId...), trying to get as many tanks as possible with one ammo load.

Apart from flying I really enjoy the skinning aspect of Il2 which I think more than counts as an Il2 activity.
I have done numerous skinning requests for friends and squadmates.

I don't recollect seeing any of your skins, Choctaw. Any chance of a screenshot or two at least?

I've recently 'gone over to the dark side' and installed UP 2.0, so I'm currently just testing out the new stuff - usually evident from the craters littering the runway approach. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif Fast jets take a different technique, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

We're on the same page man, couldn't do it in 2001, can't do it now.

BUT, at least me and my squadmate are having fun while leaving burning wrecks next to tanks..

Honestly, for now I'm really trying to re-learn everything from the beginning. Earlier I've just followed my temptations and done stuff withouth thinking what I'm actually trying to do. Now, I suck as bad as I used to, but at least I don't do it subconsciously!
