What percentage of units were flying the 190 compared to the 109 in the later years?

Was the 190 a better turner than the 109?

What was the advantage of each plane over the other?

Why did they keep the 109 around after they got the 190?

Did pilots have a choice of which plane they wanted to fly?

Thanks!

Why does the USAF today keep around F-14s, F-15s, F-16s, F-18s, etc? Each has it's own advantage.

That's why I asked about the advantages of each plane, I don't know what they are.

The USAF doesn't have F-14s or F-18s /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The F models were even better, but since `42 FW190 had been better at turning.

FW190 had more firepower, had bigger cockpit, was better at overall maneuverability, excellent all around visibility.

Me109 has the upper hand in climb rate, speed(late models) and was actually quite hard to stall.

Pilots were used to Me109 and they liked it very much.FW190 required a change of tactics.

- Did pilots have a choice of which plane they wanted
- to fly?

That depends on the regiment.

Hmm a 190 outturning a 109???

hmm a 190 turns nearly as good as a P47 some say bit better some say bit worse a 109 outturns a P51 at low speed, at high speed the stickforces are increasing...

So I think there is no way for a 190 to outturn a 109 simply take a look at the wing and powerload ( and don´t forget the slats!)

190 was not better turner as 109, but they was better in maneuver as 109

late 109 has 1-2sec turn advantage but 190 has superior rollrate that countervail

especially by highspeed has 190 much better handling

that can 109 not compensate so is 190 better dogfighter at highspeed,so long she not more pull as 6 gs,
otherwise highspeed stall

spit9 has too problem against a4,

especially at low altitude

109 was better. period.
almost all LW aces except Nowotny and Graf prefered the 109.
