Warbirds of Prey servers (Spits vs. 109's & Zekes vs. Wildcats) are going through some changes.

Please bear with us.

In order to join Warbirds of Prey servers you will now need to set your network speed in your game setup menu as shown below,

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/Cdr84/Setup1.jpg

or,

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/Cdr84/Setup2.jpg

This can also be set in game on the Hardware setup\Network menu.

If you join by hyperlobby you need to alter your clientrate in Program Files\HyperLobbyPro3\hlpro as shown below,

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/Cdr84/hlpro.jpg

or,

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/Cdr84/hlpro-1.jpg

I have also made a self installing mod that will edit the HyperLobby file for you that can be downloaded here. (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=72CBAD6A4DEE5E33)

Please PM me if that link runs out.

Please PM me with any problems or questions.

uh huh, and how do you intend to enforce this?

They do not have to 'enforce' it, if you do not make the changes outlined you cannot join the server. LOL

Will this effect my ability to connect to Zekes vs WildCats as I am on dial up?

Not directly, you can still set up your netspeed as shown above but you will probably be kicked by the ping-limit...

S! all.

Small correction here. The Zekes vs. Wildcats server is still using FBD, so the changes are not needed to play on this server. Also, if you have made the changes to your HL.ini file, in order to enter the Spits server, you can still enter Zekes without any problems. So no worries there. Sorry for any confusion.

Hi, quick question.
If I make these changes, will it prevent me from accessing any other servers?
Also, why the change? I have no idea about any of this type of stuff and would like to know more.
Thanks

Changing the netspeed effects the amount of data flow between server and client.

Primarily the server dictates to the clients the "maximum" connection speed they can join at. For instances a server running at 56k limits the clients to the same netspeed setting (5000 bytes/sec). Unless the client chooses a lower setting.

With regards to data transfer the server does do all the hard work during a dogfight. If the server is set to ISDN (8000) and a client is set to the same or higher the connection between them will always be ISDN. From what I've seen on running a server set at 28.8k clients are given 3000 bytes/sec and send 1000 bytes/sec to the server.

All the work should be done at the server end so knowing the server and bandwidth limitations helps.. for me netspeed only becomes and issue if you want to run your own server or start a dedicated server.

Hope that helps!

I typically use direct IP anyway. No problems here.

Actually, no it really didn't. I may be a bit thick, but that sounded fairly technical and so I still don't get it.
Also, I still need to know if, after I make this change, will it prevent me from joining other servers?
How come I can "go direct" and use an IP address with no problems but need to make these changes with HL?
I think that maybe I really don't understand any of what's going on.
Thanks for the help,

It's an effort to minimize lag, warping etc, by weeding out players with slow connections.

Hi, flyinmick.

This will NOT prevent you from joining other servers, including Zekes vs. Wildcats. I have made these changes myself and had no trouble connecting with any other servers. Connecting via direct IP and All Seeing Eye will also be the same as they were before, as these changes are only to your HyperLobby .ini file.
