Hello. Can someone tell me the difference between german bombs marked as AB, SC, SD or anything else. Thanx.

There are lists out there of what all the different abbreviations mean for all the different air forces, I can't find one though but there should be ones in old topics here.

There are lots of different ordinance types in IL-2. I don't know all. I can help you with these:

AB are fragmentation bombs. They need to be dropped from a certain altitude to get good spread. They can take out cars, trucks, trains, and even parked aircraft.

SC are your typical high explosive. Use these for just about anything and everything.

SD not 100% sure

PC are armor piercing. They don't have a huge blast radius, and need direct hits to work.

And here are the remaining 31 pages of German bomb information. More than enough details for most people. The answers you seek should be included in this excellent article.

Sensei had a tactic with cassettes; long (5 second or so) delay, come in low and drop them on the ground 100+m
from the side of an enemy column. The bombs rolled/bounced and spread out, stopped when they hit the vehicles
and blew on time. Then you'd get a pile of this and that destroyed messages on the chat lines.

I wonder if that works with AB or if there aren't enough per cluster?

AB: cluster munitions. The really big ones I usually don't bother dropping below 4k, otherwise you don't get enough of a spread. Takes some practice to use them well.

SC: general purpose HE

SD: Fragmentation. Not sure how the difference is modeled, but I do seem to get more disabling hits on grounded planes with these

PC: Armor piercing. Basically useless in game IMHO.

Would You mind reposting the article to another site? The link You gave us had a limit of 10 downloads and, obviously, expired pretty quickly. Thanks in advance!

Sorry Art. I under estimated the popularity of the file. Usually the ten via rapidshare is more than enough for the obscure material that I find of interest.

Here it is on Hotfile.
