Yeah...

...I'm not trying to be abrasive here, Mario...

...But I sort of get the feeling that this was unecessary.

...And seeing as how you're so fond of keeping in line with the rules...

...Perhaps you could enlighten me on whether or not there's a rule against this somewhere?

itsamea-mario

There's no rule saying you have to create a new thread when it gets to page 100, that's just a thing mods do to clean up.

itsamea-mario
01-27-2011, 10:33 AM
You can go get to page 100 on the last one if you REALLY want to, no ones stopping ya, go count to like 16 or something.

Wouldn't it just make sense to keep one thread? I mean:

-It'd be updated enough so that it stays at the top of the page.
-It'd prevent the need to 'clean up' considering that there'd only be one.
-For the lulz, it would provide forum goers with an archive of past conversations (or lack thereof).[Not that they aren't archived with this 100 page method, it'd just be easier to find them all, albiet a bit time consuming if you consider how many posts would be there total]

...

Yeah, yeah, you're probably thinking everyone's a critic

...Just sayin'

For the first time, I completely agree with you.

Plus, it's more fun to see large number.

itsamea-mario

I never quite saw the reasoning behind it, it just means there's more threads. Somebody will probably give a valid reason why. I can't find any of the BUWYWL before like #27, since someone didn't link the previous one.

I was just copying my predecessor, to the T, so i'm a perfectly innocent by-stander just trying to do his part to make the world a better place, or something.

ThePheonix1030
01-27-2011, 10:46 AM
Apparently that exceeds the bandwidth of the forum or something. That's why they don't let threads surpass 100 pages.

But hey. I'm no Internet-geek. I know it's something to do with bandwidth or whatever. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

The weather, eh? Well I'm in the southwest USA. It's chilly outside, but there's no breeze and the sun is shining plesantly. No chance of rain or snow or anything. Seems like a pretty nice day.

-EDIT-

I just thought of something:
Is it (you)(bee)soft or (ooh)(bee)soft?
I've heard people defend both.

I just thought of something:

I think both are correct, it just has to do with the language's pronunciation.

English pronunciation would most likely to be (you)(bee)soft and French pronunciation would be (ooh)(bee)soft.

as for saying let it go past 100 pages, the forum software doesn't like it much and if you think this is thread 33 so there has been 32 threads before it each reaching about 100 pages so if we round it off to 100 pages a thread you have 3200 page thread and I really don't think the shoddy database behind these forums could take it.

By that sentence, he implies that knocking my teeth out is conceived as such an extreme and outrageous action for him to carry out, that he would almost never do it, save in the case of willingly letting me bite him, since he evidently fears that very much if he is willing to commit an act preconceived to be outlandish.

I just came across this info about Body DEO, or the Antiperspirant. Most of the Body Deodorants (not all) may contain Aluminum which can be harmful for our health, if used in excess.

Aluminum, a common ingredient in deodorant and antiperspirant, is often linked to Alzheimer's and brain disorders and is a possible risk factor in breast cancer.

Why only two options though? I wouldn't want to spend eternity with either of them. Sure Jesus is probably a nice chap but he's not my kind of company. There are people I like - people I love (and I use that word very loosely) - does it mean I want to spend every second of every day with them? Of course not, we all need our solitude and I'm sure Jesus feels the same way about me. Heck even Jesus ditched his friends to be by himself a few times: one time when he went up on a cliff and then had to walk across the water in a storm to stop them complaining, one time before Judas betrayed him, one time when he pretended to be dead so he could have a long, uninterrupted nap for a few days until he finally said "Screw you guys, I'm going home".

Even when he was a kid he ditched his family to go hang out in the church/synagogue/temple.

Superman in the next film is played by a British actor, be really funny if he can't do an American accent.

Xanatos2007

Why not? Hugh Laurie can do an American accent, and most of the world doesn't even know he's British.

caswallawn_2k7
02-02-2011, 05:03 AM
yes but you have to think there will be a bit difference in skill between a 27 year old (Henry Cavill) and Hugh Laurie who was about 45 when he started house and had been doings TV and stuff for about 23 years, so he had a lot of time to practice.

FYTJ
02-02-2011, 09:37 AM
Laurie once said his American accent was the result of watching way too many American shows as a kid. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
Apparently he will only speak in House's accent around the set because it makes it easier for him.

You gotta be smart to master accents and the man studied anthropology at Cambridge.

Other Brits who are amazing at doing the American accent are Christian Bale, who has been acting rather badly lately but was mindblowing in American Psycho, Helena Bonham Carter, who basically masters every role she touches and oscar winner Kate Winslet.

So if the guy is good it should be no problem.

I never go out at night without a weapon. Not that I ever expect to use it but you never know. Usually I carry a shortsword but I just happened to have a knife on my belt at the time.

Anyway, I did a bit of CTR but it was nothing major. Seems like it was a backyard fire or something. The fire engine didn't even have its siren on, I seemed to be the only one on the street to notice. However I didn't approach to ask questions because all I was wearing was a pair of long pants and a big silver knife. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Humans are quite cowardly creatures, once you draw blood from your attacker and they see it they'll freak out and back off. Of course you must remain calm & focused; if they sense you're just as afraid as they are it will boost their confidence.

A good technique for night time ventures is instead of worrying about thugs hiding in the dark, visualise yourself as the terror in the dark. The more time you spend in the shadows the safer you'll feel.

caswallawn_2k7
02-02-2011, 03:28 PM
someone can have a knife the problem is they have to land with the blade to make it work, you using a fist, knee, elbow, foot, hand only need to connect with him.

this is why I say if you pull a knife on a mugger it has more chance of being used on you, as you can take a knife off someone and disarm them where not using a knife you have more weapons than they can control if you know what you are doing.

itsamea-mario

Xanatos2007

Most muggers usually carry a knife for intimidation purposes, since the sight of a blade in the hands of a burly thug will usually be enough to scare your average Joe. If their threat doesn't work they may try to use it on you; the trick is to act calm & smug so they'll be disoriented by rage and will feel less confident, and possibly even scared of you, making them more likely to miss and easier to disable. Cool heads will always come out on top.

Or better yet just don't get into a confrontation in the first place. If you can win a fight before one has even started... erm, <something about warrior wisdom> http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

LordWolv
02-03-2011, 12:32 AM
This is all true, but if a mugger walks up to you without a knife and you pull one out chances are you will be the intimidator. If you're going to ever use it though you need to know some things about knife fighting. Definately isn't as simple as swinging it or pouncing out in real life.

Plus, if you got the chance to get a clean shot to someone's stomach (Or face?), you'd get done by the police for attemptive murder. Just carry a fake MP5 automatic machine gun, you won't get anyone coming up to you then.

Glory be to self-defense. Put a round through their leg, stomach, anywhere away from their face and you'll be fine in court (provided you can prove aggression). Here's a link about a man in Arizona who killed two men in self defense, no charges pressed: http://www.azcentral.com/commu...ooting-two-dead.html (http://www.azcentral.com/community/chandler/articles/2010/09/05/20100905chandler-shooting-two-dead.html)

Just to be clear, I am in no way saying that we should all shoot people who are trying to steal beer at parties, but this happened to be a case of self-defense where the shooter happened to kill the...shootees? Anyways, this is probably rare, seeing as they died and there weren't even charges, but...I actually do feel safer knowing someone is out there like this guy. I'd rather have him with the gun than the two gang members.

And yeah Isaac, you'd think there would be more police there now.

LordWolv
02-03-2011, 01:25 AM
Sure, but you would need witnesses. If you stabbed someone in the leg with no evidence supporting that they attacked first, well, I don't know what they'd do in that case. Anyone?

itsamea-mario
02-03-2011, 01:45 AM
Well if you also had injuries and/or the attacker had previous, then it would be more likely they'd believe he was the aggressor.
But here in U.K. it's illegal to have any gun apart from say a single action shotgun, or a sharp blade over like 2-3 inches. so chances are i'd get in some sort of trouble regardless of wether they were attacking me.

Xanatos2007
02-03-2011, 02:05 AM
Over here it's illegal to own pretty much anything even resembling a weapon. Well, you can own certain knives (single-edged and under a certain length, no automatics or flick knives) but you're not allowed to carry them anywhere, which sort of defeats the purpose of owning them in the first place.

I still carry mine though, in defiance of arbitrary laws that are indifferent to common sense.

This (http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/news/HACKER-ADMITS-STEALING-12m-POKER-CHIPS/article-3170994-detail/article.html):

"29-year-old Ashley Mitchell of the UK is in deep trouble for stealing billions from Zynga. Luckily for the social gaming company, he stole billions of the chips used in Zynga Poker, and didn't actually steal from the company warchest.

Zynga Poker is an online version of Texas Hold 'Em. Mitchell somehow found his way into the game's system and came out with 400 billion in virtual poker chips, vauled at $12 million. Before getting caught, he sold a third of the stolen chips at a steep discount and earned £53,000 ($85,700).

Mitchell recently appeared in court where a prosecutor said that in theory his theft was no different from a criminal stealing paper money from a government Mint, even though it was a virtual crime. Zynga can simply make more poker chips appear with the pushing of a bunch of keys, but Mitchell still took money out of its pockets by redirecting customers to the Zynga Poker "black market.""

you may not be able to carry a weapon here but you can use reasonable force to defend your self, so if someone is trying to stab you and you by "accident" break the persons arm trying to stop them stabbing you, you have done nothing illegal.

Definately not. It's perfectly normal to get terrified of a game if it's meant to be scary.

logically it is physically impossible to be scared of something that doesn't have any way to affect you.

looking at a game or film it is a controlled environment with literally 0 chance of getting hurt (unless you are stupid and drop the TV on your foot) so you should never have a true fear reaction as there is no need for your body to defend it self.

I don't care.
If a game was meant to be scary and it has succeeded to scare at least one person, then the game had clearly done it's job and fulfilled the developers' intentions.

Yes, but I prefer the first 2 titles in this series i.e. COD and COD2. I still play them now, but only the 'Single Player' Campaign.

Apart from these, I'm not much interested in the new titles i.e. MW/MW2, World at War, and Black Ops etc. World at War is a bit OK, but I think the older titles are much better, at least when it comes to the SP part of the Gameplay (IMO).

I haven't bought MW2 and BLACK OPS yet, because I didn't enjoy playing Modern Warfare 1. (I had a very tough time beating the entire Campaign, because I'm not a very skilled player).

As for being scared of games, zombies etc. don't really scare me, it's the atmosphere. Like in Silent Hill 2 where half the time you're just wandering in the empty city and the monsters jump out at you about twice every hour. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

What do you and others out here think about this rpg title i.e. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ? I think it's a very nice game, imho. Even the Graphics and Visuals are quite appealing.

No, the game was NOT PC exclusive. It was released for both Consoles and Windows, as also told by 'cas' above.

But yes, I highly recommend this game. You must play it, if you are into RPG and stuff like that. Even if you are new to RPGs, this game is really nice. Great Visuals/Graphics, as well as Voice acting. I'm an FPS addict, but I still enjoyed playing this game.

Isaac, I would strongly advise buying Oblivion, as well as buying Fallout 3. New Vegas was okay, but F3 and Oblivion were...amazing. Especially Oblivion. I probably clocked a total of 500-600 hours on those two games combined, and I still never got everything done.

Fear is psychological. What might not be scary to you could be terrifying to someone else. For instance, what about the father who fears that his daughter is on a plane that recently crashed? He'd fear for her life.

You might not care about his kid, but he does, and so he has a mental response.

You can go for FALLOUT, as that's also an equally good RPG game, like Oblivion. Forget about COD: Black Ops.

That's just your Stereotypical run and gun FPS, nothing new or exciting in it. I don't recommend buying it right now. Save your cash for Crysis 2, as this game looks more promising than COD, imo.

as said a phobia is an irrational fear, but if you are on a plan and it needs to crash land and you are carping your self, that is a rational fear as it is something that will most likely hurt/kill you.

so you can rationalise fear, a phobia isn't a real fear it's more of a mental problem and that's why they use mental conditioning to get people over them.

From the pompous show-offs at Capcom comes Devil May Cry 4, the final instalment in this stylish hack & slash series, (ignoring the new DMC by Ninja Theory here).

Set in the fictional town of Fortuna, you play as Nero; a white-haired devil hunter who wields a big sword, a big gun and wears a long coat. After rushing to an opera house in what can only be a typical morning of demon slaying, he meets his girlfriend and sits down to a boring sermon by the Pope as depicted by Hideaki Itsuno. The party then gets crashed by Dante; a white-haired devil hunter who wields a big sword, two big guns and wears a long coat... looks like Nero & Dante have the same stylist. After assassinating the Pope (which is ironic based on how the congregation dresses) Dante escapes and it’s up to Nero to track him down and bring him to justice.

From there the story goes through the usual clichés; love interest gets kidnapped, tension between protagonist & love interest’s brother, conspiracies afoot, good guys turn out to be bad guys, etc. Oh come on, that’s not a spoiler! If you couldn’t predict any of that stuff happening then you’ve obviously never seen more than two Hollywood films while half asleep. Anyway, the story is not what this game’s about. The cast is your usual array of stereotypical badarse characters (with the exception of said love interest) and the script seems to be made almost entirely of cheesy one-liners with lame voice acting to match. It’s pretty clear that DMC4 doesn’t take itself too seriously and neither should you. I’m going with Yahtzee’s label of a “spectacle fighter” (for lack of a better term) because the main focus of DMC4 lies in its aesthetic appeal.

Speaking of which, the game is extremely good looking. I got the PC version (finally) so I get the benefit of advanced HD graphics and I must say it is rather stunning in pretty much every aspect; character design, animations & motion capture, special effects, lighting, detailed environments, 3D modelling, high resolution textures and apparel physics such as hair & clothing. And on my sexy new 19” LCD I could see every minute detail crystal clearly. The cutscenes are quite spectacular and the motion capture & choreography is some of the best I’ve seen in a game. It should be able to run smoothly on any current rig; I managed to play it with all the settings cranked up to max without any problems. DMC4 is also DX10 compatible, but nobody cares anymore so forget I mentioned it. It’s just a shame the developers put so much effort into making the game look good because the rest of it seems pretty half-arsed.

While the optimization of the graphics for the PC is fairly noticeable the controls are an utter mess; did nobody tell these clueless dilts what a mouse is? The mouse is completely disabled for game control and there is no way to enable it – which removes one of the key advantages of playing on a PC in the first place. The default controls seem to have been mapped out by a sea urchin in a tumble dryer because they’re spread out all over the keyboard, requiring three hands and a nimble tongue to utilise properly. I had to re-assign everything in the options menu to make the game playable but all the tutorials were given using the default keys, which made things doubly frustrating. You won’t need the camera navigation buttons very much because most of the game takes place from a fixed camera perspective.
Listen game developers everywhere: fixed cameras are NOT COOL.
It’s especially frustrating during some rather obnoxious platforming sections that don’t let you see where you’re going half the time, resulting in far too many retries for my taste. I wonder why the developers even bothered to put platform puzzles in the game at all, since they’re all about as fluid & fun as going down a dry waterslide made of sandpaper, with laser beams. If I wanted a 3rd-person platformer I’d go play Prince of Persia.

Speaking of which, the level design in DMC4 takes inspiration from Warrior Within in that you’ll be trudging through the same areas over and over again trying to unlock the next area. Although it’s not always clear where you’re supposed to be going so you’ll occasionally find yourself wandering around for about half an hour in frustration trying to figure out what to do next. This is made even more monotonous when you switch over to Dante about halfway through the campaign and have to play through all the levels again in reverse order, complete with boss fights (I see what you did there Capcom, you lazy buggers). The puzzles are a bit lame too; there’s one particular puzzle about a third of the way through in which you have to punch around a big spiky dice in order to make a black & white depiction of yourself move along a colour coded path. This was a stupid idea to begin with and Dante thinks so too, but then towards the end they make you do the same bloody puzzle five times in a row! Who the hell thought this was a good idea? It’s not fun or challenging, it just adds artificial lengthening to an already pretty short game. The only way to make this puzzle slightly more bearable is to visualize the big punching dice as the level designer.

The combat on the other hand isn’t too bad, having lots of cannon fodder enemies to dispatch creatively and plenty of boss fights. The goal of this game isn’t to simply kill all your enemies but you have to look good doing it. DMC4 implements a stylish meter; the more combos you perform in quick succession without taking damage the higher the meter will rise. At the end of each level you’re graded on your performance which is based upon your completion time, how many secrets you found and how much of a show-off you can be with a sword. Combat controls are pretty straightforward; there’s a mêlée button for performing sword combos, a pistol button for whittling enemies’ health down from a distance like a sissy and a special attack button depending on which character you play. It’s a bit hard at first to memorize all the sword combos, but you do eventually get the hang of it. And in case you can’t it is still entirely possible to button-mash your way through each fight, although the game will call you a spastic if you do so.

You’ll experience two different combat styles in DMC4. As Nero you’ll have three main combat implements: the Red Queen sword which you can rev up like a motorcycle to deal more damage and perform some pretty cool combos, the Blue Rose dual-shot revolver that can be charged up for extra damage and Nero’s demonic arm which he can use to perform various grappling manoeuvres. Nero may seem like a bit of a badarse at first but he’s nothing compared to Dante; donning a long red coat, dual-wielding black & silver handguns and being virtually indestructible... maybe it’s a Japanese thing. (http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs33/f/2008/303/6/b/Hellsing_Alucard_by_fuinharlz.jpg) Unlike Nero’s 3-piece arsenal Dante has got so many toys up his rolled up sleeves that he rivals Ezio Auditore in redundancy; he’s got a big sword, two handguns, a sawn-off shotgun, a pair of spiky gloves & boots and something called “Lucifer”. And on top of all that he’s got something called “Pandora”, which is essentially 666 different weapons in one convenient little briefcase (at least that’s what the description says anyway). In addition to his ridiculous amount of arms Dante has four fighting styles that can be switched mid-combat; Trickster, Swordmaster, Royal Guard and Gunslinger. Swordmaster just allows you to twirl your sword cowboy-style and I couldn’t figure out what Trickster & Royal Guard were for so I mainly stuck with Gunslinger for the duration of gameplay because... well, gunkata is cool. There are a decent number of enemies & bosses that have their own particular attack styles, but the battle strategy for each is relatively similar. And the single techno/rock combat track that plays throughout each and every battle does start to get a little irritating after a while. Overall though the combat is quite entertaining.

The core gameplay however has no correlation to plot progression and merely serves to cartwheel the player from one cutscene to the next, and while some of them are pretty spectacular to watch some player interaction could’ve made them a little more engaging. The cutscenes themselves are overly stylized with a lot of over acting from characters that makes The Boondock Saints II look un-camp. Story relevant characters never appear during gameplay outside of boss fights, which makes me feel detached from the game world and that the plot is happening alongside my actions rather than as a consequence of them. And whenever a cutscene does start the characters seem to appear out of thin air – especially in one moment on a snowy bridge when Lady Gaga shows up out of nowhere. However there is a certain absurd ironic humour to be had in the way the characters casually swagger about spouting cheesy dialogue with the depth of a teaspoon, and at least the cutscenes are skippable. Like I said, it’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously (or seriously at all – this is Capcom after all).

So in short: Fantastic visuals (on every level), entertaining combat and passable cutscenes, but obnoxious level design, horrid keyboard-bound controls and annoying platform & puzzle sections. Devil May Cry 4 is really an average game, the good and the bad in equal proportions. Despite all the negative things I said about it I found it entertaining enough to play through to the end, and it’s really one of those games that once you start playing it’s very hard to stop (unless you get stuck), and there is a bit of replay value. However it has not convinced me to play other DMC games because it’ll probably just be more of the same. DMC4 is definitely worth a look but I wouldn’t recommend purchasing it right away, unless you have too much disposable income. Like I did.

Off topic forums are pretty much the only place I post these days when I'm not posting as a moderator.

<sub>which is why I get a bit bad tempered if I end up having to moderate in an off topic thread</sub>... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Where's Shade?
It's not a mod party without Shade.

When you think about it, moderators are like stalkers..

I think Assassin's creed 3 should have the Main Assassin that you play with From and in Russia...It should also be like a snowy 1600's setting and the assassin's suit should be White and look like the Brutus' Armor In BrotherHood Containing fur around the hood and pauldron...And there could be more Assassination and stealth Options like blending in and assassinating literary in the snow and jumping of 1,000 foot high round dome buildings would be so cool and a Russian Assassin could fit easily into the story line because It's close to Italy
and the Templars could be the Russian Dictator and his army and the Assassins try to stand up to him that would be awesome!

Yeah I keep hearing about all this snow! All my friends back in my hometown got the week off from classes. Of course that never happened when I was there...

Ever play The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? Remember the Dodondogo's Cavern? I used to have nightmares that involved the mini boss of that level. You walk into a room whose land mass is broken into pieces of islands that are all scattered it. Lava flows between these land masses, as the room itself sits within a volcano, and flows into a similar room below. the doors lock behind Link, and two humanoid-lizard like beasts emerge and attack, complete with snarling roars and sabres.

To me, this used to be a terrifying experience. I don't know how long it took me to get over this fear and finally move on with the game, but I knew from the very moment I started playing that the game itself, the experience, wasn't real. Despite knowing that the creatures in question couldn't actually hurt me, I cowered in fear of their image.

All I'm saying is fear is arbitray and can't exactly be removed with a line of "logical reasoning" as though there is some sort of switch inside of everyone.

Just sayin'.

Can anyone of you out here, decipher the meaning of this ancient Symbol/Talisman ? It's a Single letter word though, but it serves more than one purpose in life.......

Hmmm.... ? Nope, actually that Symbol does not portray anything like this. It's just used as a CHARM, or a pendant.

Well Ok, this TALISMAN is actually for Success, Luck and protection. But it's mostly known to bring/attract luck in your Life, so the meaning of that Symbol/sign is Luck.

You can imprint that image on any Wooden piece, or on any paper, and Keep it with you, or wear it around like a Necklace.
Cheers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Anyone got any ideas for a cool Xbox Live gamertag for someone who likes to play Black Ops zombies? Having 115 in it.
