Simple as that, what are the pro's and cons of each one. How should i use them and which one to fly. (ofline)

LaGG-3S4 is actually good all around. OFFLINE.
Online is different story and don't feel odd if you play the victim part for the most part of you online gaming, since this fighter isn't exactly a hotrod compared to the contemporary German crates.

Other LaGG-3s with exception of that IT version that carries large nose gun are pretty much better planes, more closer to their oppos relatively speaking in comparison to the series4.
You can't really go wrong with them... as series progress, so progress their performance... that puts s4 to the bottom of the chain, while s66 is best LaGG.
Another good thing to remember is that their performance is best at 3700-3800m altitude. s4 peaks at around 5000m, tho but it is not advisable flying there as those alts are Germans playground. But if I'm you, I'd try to keep my LaGG in fight below 2000m, as they are more evenly matched with Germans there.

Maybe I'm a bit subjective, but apart from good guns LaGG's are generally speaking, inferior fighters overall to those of Luftwaffe. So there is no wonder that you will have a hard time standing your ground vs good flown Luftwaffe fighter.

Ai's and offline are a different matter, but still they will drag and bag you around at will since you are slower than them. My suggestion is to keep fast and take a snapshot at them with LaGG's powerful guns... if anything is good on that fighter that is guns and cannons.

Another things that really hampers LaGG is relatively low terminal speed which will annoy you every now and then, since you wont be able to catch fast diving Germans. Or escape them in dive, for that matter.

Offline yeah the Series 66 (1943) is pretty good, it has a good top speed and is very maneuverable. The earliest one (the 1941 one) feels very underpowered and can be frustrating to use but if you can gain some altitude and point your nose down it can reach a good top speed and its armament is the best of the LaGG's--2 7.67mm mg's, 2 12.7mm mg's, and a cannon. The 2 1942 versions (can't remember the numbers) are ok but also feel a bit underpowered. The 1942 La-5 is better all around.

Get Hardball's aircraft comparing program and you can compare the top speeds and armament of different planes, it's very useful.

But in general just try flying a few missions with each plane against contemporary opposition, and you'll get a feel for each plane's strengths and weaknesses.

D-Koor sums it up pretty well, they are nice offline, not so great online. My favorite one is the version with the 23mm cannon, forget what it's called. But the La's can't match the German planes until the arrival of the La-5. Better contemporary Soviet fighters are the MiG-3 above 7,000m and the Yak planes below 4,000m.

You might wanna read a bit about it.

http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.co...enko/galachenko.html (http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/lagg3/galachenko/galachenko.html)

LaGG is a good plane, not top-performing but decent. Yes it had some faults, but it wasn't ****, like the myth about the varnished coffin designation wants to portray it. Many pilots even never heard about such nickname. It was a rather difficult plane to fly and not easy on the controls, compared to yak for example, wich surely contributed to it's reputation. But this plane turned out to be one of the best in WW2 after fitting that radial engine.

I just love the VYa cannon, 1-3 hits is mostly enough to take an enemy down, or to cripple him so badly he is forced to crashland. In my opinion perfect gun placement, just like most of Russian birds: in the nose. Online you can succeed in killing, but if the enemy is a smart veteran, he might find a way to avoid you, anyway, much depends on the pilot!
Don't forget that when you have the 23 mm Vya cannon, you only need little snapshots, so use that to your advantage. This way you need less time trying to hit, And you can preserve more enegry.

Plane is robust, but agains 20mm HE shels, your mostly done... Big holes in the wings...

Actually one of the advantages of the LaGG3 is that it's very sturdy. It can take quite a lot of punishment even from the 151/20.

Thanks! My current fav is the 7 with the 3 cannons. It seems a very good plane, very manouverable. i downloaded IL-2 compare a while ago, I was just wondering what some real pilots thought. And by the way, I did say "ofline" so when you post online advice your wasting your time becasue i don't play online. No offense, it's just a tad annoying when I read all this online advice, but I'm very greatfull and know you guys just wanna help the noobs out! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think I'm going to make a new post about just finding a new plane in general. I've only flown the P-38 and P-51 and would love something new becasue I'm sick of flying BoomnZoom against A.I. I'd love to try some dogfighting... Hell, why am I writing this hear, off to the next post! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh if you are including La-5/7's....I thought you only meant the LaGG-3. The La-5 is I think basically the LaGG-3 with a radial engine.

But yeah the La-5 and La-7 are great for their years, very fast at low altitude and great at turning. The La-7 is an absolute hot rod. The twin cannons in the La-5/7 models are kind of annoying to use because it's hard to see the bullets flying in front of you--the 3xB20 cannons on that one La-7 are easier to use as tracers.

Again the LaGG-3 Series 66 is still pretty good compared to the La-5 though. I think in WW2 it just depended on what a VVS unit was delivered by the factories.

LaGGs (LaGG-3 series) and Lavochkins (La5 series and La7 series) are NOT to be confused nor mistaken for one another. They are as different in ability as a Hurricane IIb and a Tempest V.

Yeah and I only posted it wrong on 3 seperate threads about 10,000 times before figuring that out! Sorry again for the confusion. Yet more evidence that I'm a noob!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
