Since I don't have TrackIR, I started to use my mouse instead. And I'm doing pretty nice with it.

Does anyone do the same?

Yeah it works good i have no problem with it

I don't like track ir at all http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif i don't say that it is bad product but i just cant get used to it.

I have tried it many times before and i really wanted to use it, but it only ends with me getting seasick so i stick to my trusted mouse http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I find it impossible to use the joystick with my right hand and at the same time mouse look with the left one. That's why I play on open cockpit servers until I get a trackIR alternative set up.

EDIT: Discussion of that particular trackIR alternative is not allowed here.

I also use the mouse. Works fine for me.

I have my left mouse key to wide view, scroll key normal view, right mouse key gunsight view, and scroll up and down to control the throttle.

It works really great!

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, more mouse users here... I fly like this ever since I started playing Il2. At he very first beginning it seems nearly impossible to look around with your one hand and steer the a/c with the other, like playing a difficult piano piece... or so. It makes it all more like an art to me and I have to say: i'm on par with all those track IR guys...You simply get good at it after 5 years http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

BTW Cpt_Rio, I've got a similar set up but instead I've got Toggle FOV bound to the L-key.

Mouser here, too.

-Wheel is throttle
-right click is toggle FOV
-Left click is forward view (so I can center up quickly after mousing around)

Cool. Didn't know you could do all that stuff with Mouse Look. Doesn't that conflict when you are trying to zoom in or out on the map?

Also- pardon me I couldn't resist...

when I saw the title of this thread I thought of this

The question is for real though

I use the CH throttle's little "mini stick" that is a left hand thumb controlled joy stick but assigned as a "mouse" for looking around using the CH software. It is fully adjustable with their software and I think that its great for panning around the skies. I use the regular traditional mouse for other in flight tasks

Hi Cpt_Rio

I've actually done the opposite to danjama. I used to be a newview user and then started using the mouse because I found it was easier for me to track targets with the mouse.

I've been using the mouse for about 1 1/2 years now and I find it as natural as looking about in real life :-) The other plus to learning to use the mouse in IL2 is I'm now an ambidextrous mouse user :-)

I use the left button to centre the gunsight (good for looking around the canopy bars too) scroll wheel for elevator trim, and push down on it for MG's (good for those long ranged sniper shots). The right button is my TS wingman wisper.

Cheers

Leady

Before, I was using both the stick and mouse with my right hand. Boy am I dumb or what?
Now I have the mouse in my left hand. It took some time to get used to, especially knowing how to orient my plane in relation to where my "head" pointing, and I used to spin a lot in the confusion. I also raised the sensitivity so I can pan quickly with minimal movement. I use the left and right buttons for the rudders and the wheel is prop-pitch or throttle, and the center button (mouse wheel click) for when I am a gunner.
And now I use the mouse exclusively with my left hand. My roommates call me a gamer. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I tried Danjama's advice and setup New View. Seems to work well, still getting used to it. As Danjama mentioned, it is very important to follow setup instruction to the word. Also, this site : http://www.com-central.net/ind...t&pa=showpage&pid=13 (http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=content&pa=showpage&pid=13) offers some settings to use. I tried them and like them.

Nice suggestion Danjama... I'll stick to my mouse though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hey i'm glad it worked for you too mate, it has been a lifesaver for me, been using it for 2-3 years now and swear by it. Once you get the movement speeds to the perfect setting it will all fall into place! This comes to me so naturally now. In fact, i wouldnt be half as good as i am now without this addon.

Mouser here too.

I thought of using a ball-type control like you see on old arcade video games and maybe trying to set up some kind of a look around thing with it. But I will most likely just get track IR instead.
