View Full Version : Nvidia 8800 GTX - Dark circles in the water

Hi all,

I have decided to post here for at least 2 reasons.

1) I am enjoying Il2 since it's very first issue and basically this is the only game I play. Moreover, I've invested recently in a top notch PC configuration just for the pleasure to have the best out of 1946. I'm looking forward to playing BOB....and hope to get even more satisfaction out of it.

2) Now the pb I face with my nvidia 8800 GTX (and GTS)is the following: dark circles in the water are clearly visible from the sky.

The DLL available on this site has solved the flickering problem. The circles not yet.

I have set water on 4 in my conf.ini which is ok for my hardware.

My resolution is 1960 x 1024 (22").
All settings for anti alising and anisotropic filters are at their maximum.

Any suggestion ??

Thanks

Antoine

Don't use old video drivers.

Use version 96.89 or higher:

Tks Hamselv2. I'm currently using the latest drivers available for 8800 series 97,92

Should I post a screen for you guys to see what I'm talking about. The circles are visible but not really dark, it is like a windblow effect on the water surface, dark/medium blue....

Personally, I'd try out the 96.89's from guru3D. They seemed to fix the issue for a number of other folks. I'm using them for my 7950GX2 right now with excellent IQ and frames.

here's a link: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1505

I have the same problem too. I have an Nvidia 7800 or something like that (I don't remember the number).

The circles on the water... was more a black line and right below me the area inside the circle.. the water wasn't "wavy" (moving up and down) but outside the circle the water looked great. I had the latest drivers.

The only way I was able to "fix" it was to drop water setting down to 2 (3 and 4 made the black circle effect).

I'll give a try to the 96,89

I'll then revert.
Tks you all

Hi all,

Many thanks for your kind replies

I've tried 96,89 no difference. I went back to the last Nvidia ones for 8800 series

I play with all settings on max performance ie

Antialising max
Anisotropic max
32 bits
Quality

I do not understand what are the 6 optimization parameters we are talking about in Kokta's thread link.

Any more light on it ?

Thanks for patience

Cheers

Antoine

I have the geforce 8800 GTS and it appears to me that the dark circles in the water are just the shadows from the clouds.

might be oil slicks
sorry, couldn't resist, being from an oil producing state.
