We are working over several things simultaniosly:

- patch with tunings
- Gold Pack on DVD (master is just done)
- Someting like Platinum DVD Pack with the whole content and new things
- Patch that to make Platinum DVD Pack compatible with upcoming add-ons http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
- Patch for the owners of FB+AEP+PF that to make it compatible with the Platinum DVD Pack (this is the most hard and I'm not sure that we will be able to make it for a short time)
- 3 Russian CD add-ons (pay per add-on) that also are planned for the western market but not defined all rules yet. Howver for Pe-2 we aleady did all English texts (with the help of Luthier. It was too more than 35,000 words to be translated just in brieffings)
- the work over third party planes - still wasn't not stoped... But there is still so much to work...

- BoB - this is the main work.

You see, a lot of work...

The main thing is how to make owners of FB+AEP+PF compatible onlin with the onewrs of final "Platinum" DVD.
For us is better to sell budget DVD really than to make them compatible....

Ok... its just thoughts... the food for your brains... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Good to hear! I'm glad we'll be getting the Russian add-ons afterall and that one is almost done!!!

One question... I don't know if even you can answer this one Ivan but it says that the Platinum DVD pack will have new "things". But in another thread Oleg said the Platinum DVD pack will only go to 4.02. Whats up with the discrepancy? Any idea what those new "things" are?

I think a LOT of us wont mind going out and getting the Platinum DVD just to make installing easier.

Question. Will this Platinum DVD have any special content that FB/Aces/PF wont?

It is for these who has PF, but have't FB+AEP or haven't AEP. We did such DVD version by request of such users, because in most countries already impossible to buy FB and especially AEP. The last one simply missed already everywhere. But without AEP you can't merge PF with the previous content.

"Platinum" DVD FB+AEP+PF+new content.

Tha to make FB+AEP+PF compatible with that DVD we need to produce special add-on, which is too hard currently and don't know if possible in future. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

One of the good things about the UBI search function working is doing a search for "Oleg_Maddox" in author and sort by Date. That way you can see what the man has been posting lately. The problem is that the search function doesn't seem to work very often.

Sounds good.. to me.

- Patch that to make Platinum DVD Pack compatible with upcoming add-ons
- Patch for the owners of FB+AEP+PF that to make it compatible with the Platinum DVD Pack (this is the most hard and I'm not sure that we will be able to make it for a short time)

So does that mean that if we are running FB3.0M then we will either have to A)Buy the Platinum.. or B)wait for the patch that will allow us to merge? My interpretation is that it may take a bit longer for that to work- we may see the platinum out before we see the ability of those who already have merged to get the new content... Im not sure... either way I'm not going anywhere so.... However.. Oleg since you popped in her I have a BoB question for you.

After looking at some guncam footage, and seeing how you already in IL2 & FB 4.xx got a lot of the damge models down very nicely.. I was wondring if BoB will show us a more random type of DM.. with some planes just exploding... some just emitting a huge puff of white/black smoke.... some streamig fluid.... I am just curious. I know whatever yoyu guys come up with will be your best effort at the time so Im not sweating that but... I am really curious.

I have been really looking at a lot of the guncam fiootage I have saved on my HD and it amazes me how much you guys have gotten realitically thus far.

Excellent news...we all know that the team is working hard on stuff and it is really good to come and share these nuggets with us so we can look forward with anticipation.

I'm glad to hear about the Pe-2...that along with the Ki-27 were my main wants out of the russian add ons. Can't wait for the skeeter, tempest and others...Spit MkXIV too...had to put that in as a selfish prod http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

The 109/190 tandem is such a hard duo to deal with...the Tempest/Spit MkXIV will be their allied match no doubt.

The other night I started to go on-line and fly... "Where the heck is my CD!!!" I say outloud to myself. After a long 5 minute search for it, I felt a panic attack comming on, so I jump in my car, drive to Wal-Mart, and buy another one. I get home, accidently try to cram it into my DVD-Drive, only to discover that my old one was allready in there. Unfazed, I get my magic marker out and write "SPARE COPY" on my newest purchase.

All that said, I will no doubt be purchasing the PLATINUM CD COMPLETE COLLECTION as soon as it becomes available wheather I needs it our not... LOL!

Hopefully Oleg and his design crew make most of the profit from the sale. Too bad we just cant order them direct from himhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Gold Pack was released a couple of years back and included the full version of Forgotten Battles and Ace Expansion, but it came only on CD. This time it will be released in DVD form. The Platinum DVD, I guess would have Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion, Pacific Fighters, and the Russian add-on stuff and maybe something else, all in one package.

At least, that's how I understand Oleg's statement.

So if there is more behind the horizon I will get to my store and buy the DVD.

Also asked my game magazine "PC-Gameplay" to interview Oleg about BoB, don't see much info yet in any forum threat ???
But don't know if they are able to get a word from Oleg at this time !
But I sertainly hope so !

My opinion - resources are tight, so abandon the attempt to make FB-AEB-PF compatible with Platinum DVD.

Concentrate on the Platinum DVD and include concessions to the old and faithful crowd, i.e. complete aircraft like the Mosquito.

This way Oleg gets a fresh release to tempt new customers and keeps the old customers happy.

I suspect this is what Oleg wants to do and is gently sounding out we faithful customers.

From what I understand, we get a "gold" edition maybe for February http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=PC&title=866127 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&amp;page=title&amp;r=PC&amp;title=866127)
for those who don't have all the CDs

and a "Platinum" edition later for collectors and fans.
The Platinum edition will have enough new stuff to not be easily compatible with the Gold pack.

Nothing about diecast Sturmovik or hardcopy aircraft manual or anything else to make it look more <span class="ev_code_YELLOW">Platinum</span>.

I am very confused? I have no clue what is going on? Platinum? Gold? Russian extra XXX editionp packs? What is going on?

Skycat_2
12-29-2005, 12:38 AM
What's going on? As far as I can tell:

1. Maddox Games is working on a couple of projects consecutively. One of those projects is a "Platinum Pack" on DVD-ROM that would combine FB, AEP and PF. A second project is a free patch for PF that will add additional flyables and AI planes. Finally 1C:MG is working on the Battle of Britain release.

2. Meanwhile there are three add-on or expansion packs in the works for the Russian market. I think these products are along the same lines as "Battle Over Europe" where Oleg's guys had to code the added planes and maps to be used in the game. As of now there are no definate plans to market these add-ons in the West and some of the flyables -- the IL-10 and Pe-2 -- may or may not be offered in a patch issued to the Western market. I don't understand the details on this but apparently there are some behind-the-scenes considerations that we aren't being told about.

3. Oleg floated the idea past the community of perhaps including the Russian market expansions on the same DVD as the FB/AEP/PF trilogy. Perhaps doing this would have made life easier for 1C:MG because then they would only have to worry about finalizing one version of the DVD for all markets. As far as I know, however, UbiSoft didn't like the idea of the trilogy and the Russian expansions all in one bundle but maybe the Russian expansions will have their own DVD in the West later. We're all unclear on this matter I believe ...

4. Meanwhile, Oleg is finalizing the free patch material and I think he wants the Platinum DVD to have the most current (and perhaps final?) patch on it. Anyhow there is a mysterious compatibility issue that he is working out on the DVD release and I'm guessing that the Russian expansions have something to do with that; nonparallel releases may mean that Russians and Westerners won't be able to connect for multiplay.

5. The "Gold Pack" DVD seems to be in response to the sudden lack of AEP copies. Oleg is apparently also releasing an FB+AEP DVD that I'm assuming is automatically patched to version 2.04.

Personally I think there are folks here who are happily deluding themselves into thinking that the Platinum DVD will have a whole lot of extras on it like new *undisclosed* flyables or maps. But whatever version the DVD is released at it will still have to be compatible with the existing FB/PF combination -- if there is anything new on the DVD it will also be made available in a patch.

Yeah I saw that from Ivan. Honestly I'd say a realistic date is probably early February with the Holiday and all. Which is a realistic date, the Do335, Mosquito, and Ju88 have been in OM's hands for over a year now I think they're probably done. Don't expect Slovakia, Burma, and Norway though, that probably won't be until sometime in the spring.

(His opinion) Hartmann, Barkhorn etc. might dispute it or agree. But the yak3 and La 7 were not, superior to the FW 190 D series and TA 152H at high altitude, and at lower to medium altitudes both could hold their own against the best the allies could field but numbers more than any think else and lack of increasing green pilots were the deciding factor. The russians would have had difficultly matching the Western front air effort with high quality esorts like the P51 Mustang and bomber fleets of the USAAF let alone the RAF with Tempests Spitfires etc. Also the LUftwaffe had jet fighters like the ME262 and more types on the drawing board but the War was lost - too late. The LA 9 was not of WW2 like many German aircraft, the war finished. Certain Luftwaffe and US, RAF etc. feel their aircraft superior.
P51D,Corsair, P-47N, Tempest, Spitfire Mk21,Ta152C,H, Me262, Ki84(when manufactured right) the Ki100,were the man single seaters that were the best at the end of WW2. The Yak3 and La7 were the best of the Russian lot. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Oleg Maddox and 1C are doing their job with their usual style, that is: as few compromises as it's possible and maintain full control of the game. The simmers community is doing a little less than its part, with too many people around that use the software without buying it, and everybody pushing for more planes, more maps, more missions. My proposal, for what is worth, is simple: if we want more, we must be willing to spend more. A regular release of new types, and a regular updating of older ones (such as I16 and Mig 3)can only be sustained by buyers. Something as a "pay per plane" system, or a yearly subscription, or any other way that could ensure two simple things: simmers have all the planes they want, and developers have the money they earn and deserve.

Second that. People might buy the original but after that they whine if they don't get new content for free. Ok, the game (if it's any good) will produce money for the developers but not forever. So they make some expansions to keep the game alive AND to get food on the table. I'm ready to pay for additions if it's worth the money.

Btw, I've been out of IL2 and Pacific Fighters world for a long time and don't know what this project BoB is. Anyone, please?

I'll bet no ones gonna look in this thread again.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last post in it - so I'm gonna put something down here Heywooood style.

I bet there isn't gonna be an update anytime soon.

I'll further wager that if there is - the first thing some bright contestant will say is " wheres the Mossie we were promised?"

The update will contain what exactly...?

New maps?
New AI routines?
New FMs ?
New AI planes?

The Addon will have new flyables - but thats not what 4.0x is about, the addon is separate and not to be available for maybe 4 weeks, yes?

So what is this 'update' anyhows...anyone of you loose lipped beta testers out there wanna put up a naughty little teaser of posting?

Right - 'cause there is no update just like I thought...

*Heywoood, after baiting this boring, uneventful thread with a box, a stick and a string, slips behind a nearby shrubbery with his camo jammies on and pulls a few loose brambles over his head as concealment..... and waits.....

For all I know, there is 4.03 (or 4.1?) in testing and it contains some new planes and, reportedly, is "awesome" that all from a man who is close to dev team.

Yes - Ian may or may not have alluded to some vague 'awesomeness' or other that may or may not be related to an update or other that may or may not be released 'soon'....sigh* over at simhq the other day...BFD.

Well this is one mushroom thats not going to take it anymore. dammit I want something besides horseapples to eat..and I think someone needs to shine a flashlight down here once in a while.

I read "awesome" with every upcoming new patch or addon for IL-2/FB/AEP/PF...and I also read a lot of the "Oleg, XY-plane/XY-gun/XY-whatever is totally porked now" threads afterwards. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Oh yes, I heard that from a cousin of mine, who has a friend whose girlfriend works for a guy whose wife heard it from the son of her neighbour, a kid who plays basketball with the niece of a man that has a brother-in-law that heard it as he was walking by a bus-stop from a bloke that looked alike Ilya himself, but taller. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
