i just finished flying a bomber mission in my IL-2. i finished the mission and was flying home so i took the liberty of switching views to some of the freindly craft on the mission. The wierd thing was one of my fighter escorts. It's number was 100 (instead of 8 or something logical) and instead of a flight insignia on its nose it had a bunch os red stars (kill markers i think). i've never seen this on a mission before. was it some ace come to help or something?

I've seen said plane-- a P-39 with the 100 and mucho kills racked up on the side-- are you flying in Kuban or Crimea, that's where I saw him first, in the original Il-2 flying a 109G-6 with the Luftwaffe. It must be an ace (though I can't name him) the bugger was *tough* to fight... I didn't ever shoot him down and he showed up in 7 or 8 sorties...

Sorry I couldn't identify this Bolshevik mystery, but I know the plane you speak of, and by the way the AI flies that 39, it's gotta be an ace.

yeah. it's the original IL-2 on one of those island maps. I don't know how well he flew because he was on my side and i was too busy flying myself to watch him. I bet theres a great story there...

That`s AI Pokryshkin`s P39N1.

In every campaign you`ll see an ace -Graf,Rechkalov,etc.IMO they`re slightly better than most AI and often have influence on battles. You won`t see them,if you`ll kill them earlier.

He will be reinlisted ONLY if he is shot down over HIS teritory. I'm plaing the Leningrad campaign now and I shot down Heinrich Kraft, but he bailed out over soviet territory, and in the debriefing, stated that "our forces captured enemy ace Krafft", so I doubt I'l see him again (unless he will evade somehow/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif )./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
