I seem to remember last week that it was mentioned that some dedicated server software might be released this week. Any new info?

Not to be rude or anything but I'm looking for new info if any. I've been keeping a eye in the forums and though maybe I missed something.

Ive been asking about this from day one.

They dont say either yes or no to it, because there is indeed a dedicated server available.

If they could say:
NO, there wont be a dedicated server version (IL2build) release for public, I would be happy. At least I would know.

And ofcourse if they would say, YES there will be a dedicated server version (IL2build) available for public, i´d be even more happy.

The worst part is their unwillingness to discuss the subject att all.

I have given up.

But dont let me discourage you.. keep on pushing!

Petter,

As far as I am aware of things, the ubi.com 'servers' are not dedicated servers. It's just a matching service like Microsofts 'Zone'. It's just a place to meet and an interface that uses your computer and software to host a game. That's deffinently not a dedicated server. When everyone leaves it, the 'server' goes away.

Quoted by Wags - "We also plan to release the dedicated server patch next week assuming no new problems arise." - 9/5/03

I don't know if this means that they plan on releasing a patch that you have to use in conjuction with a copy of IL2 to create a dedicated or it is true stand-alone dedicated server software. Usually when a developer/publisher releases 'dedicated server software' they state it as such and not as a patch, leading me to believe it will the the former rather than the later. Notice he did not say that UBI plans on hosting dedicated servers. I don't think he was saying that they plan on releasing it to themselves either. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

At this point though, it's probably safe to say that it's in the works and they have every intention of releasing it (to the public). I truely believe that it would revolutionize flight sims to have true stand-alone dedicated server. It would just make my decade to see Squadrons listed on something like TWL or OGL. Having IL2 at the forefront of this would be the icing on the cake.

If we get a patch at first instead of stand-alone software, at least it's a first step.

Wags said we'd have it in an announcement regarding 1.11 patch - no follow up status.
