View Full Version : How to: Trim on a slider (for noobs)

MEGILE

Correctly mapped trim is the difference between ace and not ace in the world of IL2.

Go into your controls, and scroll down till you see HOTAS controls.

Select Elevator Trim, and twist the most suitable slider.

Note aileron trim... its useless because you dont roll in turns.

Et voila, prepare for 100 points.

While you are at it I also suggest:

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/5466/controlsek0.jpg

Map this control to the most easily accessible key. Your virtual career depends on it.

Personally I prefer a macro which triggers, Fire, External Padlock, No cockpit, raise seat, airbreak and gear down all at the same time.

You should see the look on the enemies face.. it is the look of defeat.

Sometimes I admire myself in the rear-view and forget to look for haters on my six. Its times like these that prove the value of a hyper-roll. Ailerons on your slider are as valuable as a 5 thousand point lead.

Trim om slider is good...but external padlock is the ace maker be sure http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

These external/padlock has thing to be some new revamped n00b joy nowadays.....
I thought it died some time ago, but...

Good post Megile, some of them will finally learn learn how to become a successful 109 online ace.

I dont use any padlocks as I dont know what they are usefull for and I dont know which planes have airbrakes. Still doing well offline though.

Aileron trim may be nice if hit and your leaning one way due to damage but then the keyboard can be used as its not used a lot.

Why waste a slider on trim when you can use it for flaps? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

When you see your enemy or think he's near, hit your elevator trim key 20 times and you'll be set.

Now that I got that of my chest, can someone please explain what "padlock" in the game means. An antitheft mechanism for my 109? Duct-tape has kept the a/c tiefs away for years. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

when you hit external padlock it shifts the camera view outside your aircraft looking at the nearest enemy. This is waaaaay sweet when you lose sight of the enemy - hit external padlock and you see right where he is and how he is maneuvering. The regular padlock draws a diamond "pipper" around the nearest enemy aircraft and locks your view onto it. I hate the internal padlock but external is just about necessary in a DF server.

When you're using your padlock, internal or external, don't forget to plug in your gamepad. Also, please don't whine about FM, DM or anything for that matter having to deal with realism since you just blew that right out of the window with padlock. lol

Set elevator trim to throttle and set a macro for MW50 + 110% throttle + 100% prop pitch + combat flaps. Then just hit that button and leave it and you'll be all set.

If they learn to use the rudder right then they might even be able to shoot like one.

All trim, engine and flaps on a slider/rotary plus 32 buttons. And all 1024bit resolution.

ROFL Tagert!

Now, GOT TRACK of you flying your setup vs. Megile flying his?

I'd pay good money for that, because his settings aren't God mode but very, very close. And his British sensibilities might outfly your American ingenuity!

the deal would be control your elevator trim with the y axe of the stick

then as in real aerobatic planes pilot effort would be decreased a big deal

but the delay killed the trim

If aerobatic aircraft such as a Pitts or a Su-26 were flown at 400mph the stick forces would be many times more than a person could handle.

Even without the delay the low speed handling would be very poor if the only pitch control you had was the trim. Of course, this has been shown previously but...

I take your rather indirect point. Never saw it and wondered if you somehow had pitch trim
tied directly to pitch control but now that I think about it, that would work really bad!
