Hate to be a stickler but the tank was actually an M60A3TTS. I have stills that show a Thermal shroud on the main gun and a cross wind sensor at the rear turret. OK I will shut up! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif That track from the news the other night looks like the M104 with a fake turret (non-military) with adverising on the side. Looks like I will be on the M1A2 SEP TUSK (Nice!!!!!!!!!!!)

The_Silent_O

The 'O' also has a TM / FM library at home...required for all military students. Most of the stuff is now outdated and past it's restrictive distribution date. Makes a good firestarter in the fireplace.

I agree with BR, that's not a M113, looks like a British light recon vehicle (I know, I used to ride around on top of a M113).

br...What unit and division were you in?

I also remember the loose M60 tank in Germany, he drove off a town bridge, right?

Here is a video of that M60 in the USA

Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYL00x9oMH8)

That would had been a job for Celeon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

But somehow i doubt that the San Diego police would had liked to trade a crazy tank driver with a crazy Panzergrenadier that fires his AT weapon through the neighbourhood http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I believe this australian APC is a modified M113 called M113AS3/4 ...

This seems to be the only type of APC they have in service beside IMV's that look completely different so it has to be that i guess.

Couldnt find a pic of an M113AS3/4 to confirm that

Hmmm nope, its not one of those M113AS and not that fire support one.

Thats not a turret on its top. Its something else.

Judging by that star and the blueish color...could it be that it is a military police apc ? (Still sure that it is some sort of M113 variant)

Maybe thats why i cant find it among the australian armour sources.

All I can say is that it is a very old version of a M113, because:

- it only has 5 instead of 6 roller wheels
- no external fuel bays attached to the back of the vehicle
- does not have a rear fender over the back wheel.

The Aussies had many version of these old ones.

Celeon999

Hmmmm.. whatever this APC is...it would be wise for the MP's of this world to get at least one of them.

Celeon remembers those nice bar brawls when the Feldjägers had to call in reinforcements to beat all the participants appropriately up without getting beaten up themselves. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

*Celeon kept a respectful distance to such "events" and enjoyed the show* http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

Such a APC would be quite handy in that situation. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Talking about bar brawls :

A few weeks ago i was looking through the "Stars and Stripes" website and found a article about a massive bar brawl in Grafenwöhr. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It seems that some soldiers from a Stryker unit got into a nice fight with some locals.

Reason : A girl. As always http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Your MP's had quite some problems getting this fastly escalating exchange of fist arguments under control as both sides called in reinforcements. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It was D-Day all over again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

In the end the Polizei came and threatened to arrest simply everyone and everything. This convinced all participants to let it be and ...crawl... home http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Ahhh...good to see that things haven't changed that much there...US soldiers moving in on the local Damen...it just ain't fair http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

CELEON will be UNhappy to note that my last German Sister-in-law is now my American Sister-in-law since she finally took her Oath of American Citizenship after 20 years of marriage to my brother. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

My other former German sister in law did this quite a few years ago.

The first one I mentioned was from Offenbach, near Frankfurt a.M. and the other one is from the Fulda area, otherwise known as the "Fulda Gap" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Celeon does not have one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif , well at least a veeery small one which might reveal his true....identity ..from time to time http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Celeon can also simulate a convincing british accent.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif but there is still plenty of room for improvement.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Tried Scottish.....its really hard...but sounds more german in the way you speak certain vowels so it should be just a matter of practice http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Irish....not a chance http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif Wilhelm ... it's spelled StrYker, with a 'Y' ... for two very specific reasons ... read the history of its name here:

Army Announces Name For Interim Armored Vehicle (http://www.army.mil/features/stryker/default.htm)

And in "Styker-eze" the IFV is actually called the Infantry Carrier Vehicle or (ICV). More in the links at the above website.

APC or Armored Personnel Carrier is older terminology

IFV would be appropriate to describe the M2/3 Bradley since it is a "Fighting Vehicle" -- it has a large cannon on top, but can also carry troops

ICV is also appropriate for the Stryker since it is only meant to carry an infantry squad, it does not have more than an M2/M240B or Mk - 19 grenade launcher mounted on top.

I guess you can say that the ICV replaced the APC when it comes to Stryker.

Liddabit
07-19-2007, 01:48 PM
oops I thought the strykers had 25mm on them like the bradley. No wonder the bradley came in 2nd on the APC list on military channel the otherday and the stryker 4th.

They had the M113 as #1 though :O

France celebrates the "Storm on the Bastille" with a military parade since 1915.

This year ,for the first time, France (or better said Sarkozy) put the celebrations under the Motto "Europe" and invited the military of all EU membership nations to participate.

The UK gate crashed France's Bastille Day celebrations back in 2004 when the hundredth anniversary of the Entente cordiale in 2004 was marked by a number of official and unofficial events, including a state visit to France by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, and a return visit by President Chirac in November. British troops (the band of the Royal Marines, the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, Grenadier Guards and King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery) also led the Bastille Day parade in Paris for the first time, with the Red Arrows flying overhead. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Fallschirmjägers

Fallschirm = Parachute

Jäger = Hunter

Not to be mixed up with Feldjäger who are military police

In the wehrmacht they had those huge chains with a plate around their necks.

http://perso.orange.fr/did.panzer/uni_insigne/feld-tenue.jpg

Feld = Field

Fieldhunter so to say which fits good to what they do ... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Fallschirmjäger
Gebirgsjäger (Mountain troops)
Feldjäger

You are absolutely right.

The Feldgendarmerie was established shortly after the Napoleonic Wars , which were ended through Napoleon's defeat by Prussia and Great Britain at Waterloo.

The french field police of the napoleonic armies was taken as role model , thats why the term gendarmerie was adopted.

The "Pour le merite" medal known also as the (Blue max) is also named in french as it was the official language of the prussian court at the time it was founded.

Pour le merite = For the duty

Celeon's old "Spiess" would have said

"Stop....Disassemble the weapon....repeat cleaning and assemble procedure from the start"

Without telling you what you did wrong http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif
