Check first the stall speed, this is, pull the stick slowly until the glider stalls, note the speed, release the pressure on the stick, and resume gliding speed, then approach the field at a speed of 1.3 times your stall speed, aim the nose where you want to land ( if you don't have the airport or field touchdown point in front of you or between 45 degrees of your direct field of view maneouver to a position where you estimate will take you straight in to the field) keep your touchdown point one or two finger widths from the nose cowling of the plane ( towards the closer end of the runway in front of you), once you estimate the field is secure (you will reach it) put two notches of flaps, gear down, let it glide, slow with the control imputs, make smooth movements ( like handling dynamite) once you are at around 10 to 15 meters full flaps, be careful, the plane will "tip the nose down" due to the center of pressure onver the wings moving backwards upon flap extension, dont over control it, dont move the stick back in panic, start to pull gently the nose up to bleed off speed, dont jerk the stick , keep the runway centerline "between your legs" the plane will settle down by itself provided you keep it centered with rudder imput. Once on the ground and the plane has slowed down to a brisk pace use the brakes sparingly, then ...thats your first landing! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

First, welcome to the sim!

Secondly, there's some great guides out there. Assuming you haven't patched IL-2 yet, use the tutorial missions. They're actually better in IL-2 than in FB.

http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~chapman/il2guide/index.htm

is a good place to start.

Just about anyone will tell you that IL-2 unpatched is the most demanding prop flight sim ever.

In a nutshell, there's this stick thing. Pull it back and everything goes blue. Hold it back long enough and everything goes green, until it goes blue again.

The green bits are very difficult to fly through, but the blue stuff is just fine.

Also, don't let anybody fool you. We all stink at this. Some just are a little less stinky at it than others, and call themselves Aces.

LOL, it's the rocket plane!

Later on they'll put an engine in it.

It gets much faster from there.

May I suggest you try a different campaign to begin with?

This person may be talking about the BI campaign, where you are testing the prototype. You are towed up, and then must glide it in for a landing. If so, then landing that thing is indeed a difficult first challenge. I suggest that you play the training missions first, and look for the drop-down arrow to perhaps choose a different campaign for your your first adventures when you are ready. Make sure that you read not only every scrap of your manual, but also the readme file in the program files/ubi soft/IL2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles folder.

Good Luck, and welcome to the worlds best addiction.
