I just reinstalled and did one mission in Career mode. I thought I was just a noob and screwed up but when I first started but...nope, the deck gunners will NOT attack neutral shipping. C'mon! You know they were carrying munitions!

Attacking neutrals will lead to a Ubi rep knocking at your front door and punching you in the nose.

Seriously, you'll lose renown. It's just historicallt undiplomatic. Neutrals will start attacking you if you start up with them. Sink enough neutrals and your career will abruptly again.

Attacking Neutrals? Who would do such a thing. On my last patrol, I encountered a 15 ship convoy. Of the 15 cargo ships, 5 were neutrals. Though I managed to sink the 3 Escorts and 10 cargo ships, I didn't bother to touch the Neutrals. This latter turned into a diappointment, reason being, I was about 2K short of a 100K patrol and believe me passing up on 2 C3's, 1 C2, 1 T3 and 1 small tanker that were neutral was very heart wrenching.

The only neutrals that will attack you are ones with actual guns on them, I dont recal seeing a t3 tanker with a cannon on it. Ive sank several neutral ships and not once got a warning message at any point in my career, so if the pickings are slim and you want some tonnage, harpoon the biggest thing in the convoy.
I dont do it all the time but if I got 3 fish left and a convoy comes my way and all the tankers are neutral, those suckers are going down to davey jones. I say shoot them if you have to and up to the point to where you get warned for doing such a thing. If you dont get a warning and you get kicked out of the kriegsmarine, you can always go back to your last saved game at the start of that mission with full knowledge that you cant sink any more neutrals.

I already shot the deck gunners. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
I passed up a neutral on my next patrol and the Ubi Gods gave me a nice C3. BTW, those T3's carry guns.

well when I approach a tanker of any type I am always submerged so I dont alert them to me plotting their demise, otherwise they bob and weave on you instead of offering the jugular when undetected by them.

True, but using a deck gun on them rules.
