Hi All,

Not too sure if this has been brought up but there is a big interview with Oleg about BoB Storm of War in this months PC Pilot, there's lots of interesting pictures & they quote Oleg as saying SoW should be released late next year?!

Well worth a look!

Regards,

Keith

Would you be able to scan and upload it? I really want to read it.

In summary Oleg says he aims for release sometime next year. As I cannot load all 5 pages of the PC Pilot article I will try and summarise for you guys.
There will be 32 plus aircraft types of which 10 will be flyable. Non flyable types shown in the article are Tiger Moth Swordfish Sunderland and Bf108 as well as flyable Bf109 Spitfire Hurricane Bf110 Ju88 He111 and Beaufighter models.
The delays are due to detailed development of aircraft details both internal and external, damage effects, etc. For example in 2001 Il2 contained 2000 polygons for a single engined aircraft BOB uses 25000 which have taken time to research and insert.
Similarly the ground features will be more detailed with players able to man AA guns, land and refuel and rearm aircraft once during a mission. Manual startup has been left out but the player can choose from various missions during a battle. He can affect the battle outcome but not the war.
Graphics and flight models have been built from scratch. AI will also have more variations and become more humanised and less predictable with each pilot making many more variable decisions such as panic, get angry or frightened, make mistakes, or stay calm.
Weather fronts will be as challenging as fighting so enticing you to read the reports before hand.
There will be a Maddox approved set of options and the game will be able to store add ons by other parties which players can use or section off in offline or online play as required. These may include new aircraft objects and maps.
Bob will support the latest technology including multi core processors and Track IR6DoF.
Oleg has obviously studied our comments and taken them into account. He is looking to the future expansion of the game rather than making a quick buck thus the prolonged start to ensure the basic system is in place.
It seems like the immersion factor and expansion factor will hit a new high so should be well worth waiting for.

.

I KNEW it was the reason.

This game is 10 times as complex as IL2 ever was. Therefore it should take 10 times the time to create.

Yes, I doubt that even today's top computers could run this game at decent graphics settings.. seems like they've gone overboard with polygon counts and fancy stuff. Better wait as long as possible before buying a new PC if you're really keen on this game!

At first glance I read: "This game is 10 times as complex as IL2 ever was. Therefore it should take 10 times longer to load game".

Which wouldn't surprise me with my current PC by the way. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Yup. All in all BoB is going to cost me some money. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Manual startup has been left out? FMB? Mission gens? Or just a language bump?

Well we do seem to be getting more flyables than seemed before including bombers to start.

Well it would be nice to have a mode that woulod drop the polygon count for those wanting to fly and not worried what thier plane really looks like. Im into the AI and flight-damage model rather than exact detail of the planes give or take a few polygons.

Ground scenery is important to me though as it adds to the realism for me. Thus why I dislike MSFT CFS and FX sims. Dont tell me Im flying over Hartford, CT when the Phoenix Building is not visible.

That mode is allready present in IL-2. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Now this is bloody interesting! It seems Oleg had had a look at the modding business and found a way to integrate it! I will have to buy this number of PC pilot!

Il2 has been very scalable. First computer I ran the game on in 2001 was a 500mhz AMD Athlon. After that a 2.2 Ghz Athlon and now a Intel 6600 running at 3.0 Ghz. I always built computers specifically for Il2 and think I spend about $10000 over the last 7 years on computers and upgrades for the game. I'am actually glad that they take their time. It looks like the Mhz/Ghz race is over. I want SoW BOB to be as optimized possible for multiple cores and fancy graphics cards as I think that's where the most headroom is left. Just don't think it's in the cards that we will be running 18Ghz processors in 6 years and that's how long we will be playing this game if Oleg continues into WWII, Korea and or Vietnam with this sim. So take your time. The longer it takes, the cheaper the computer I have to built to run it maxed out, will cost.

Well, we`ll see. I often watch much waffle from devs about amazing stuff to go into a game a year before it`s out, then when it`s released (usually late), half the stuff mentioned isn`t there for one reason or another.

Relying on his track record I wait quietly positive, but cautious.

I am dreaming of real time ray-tracing...Imagine the effects on clouds, shadows (and self-) etc.

I would not be surprised to learn that this is at least anticipated by OM on his road map for SoW...but I would say it is still years away! Proper exploitation of n-cores and massive parallel computation and associated programming processes are needed and the technology is just beginning to appear...but appear it does, indeed...

I would have like a manual start up in the game.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

BTW I can't wait till the on-line version is out and all the arguments start about what aircraft are more posked then the others.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
