I was hoping end of this week! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif But I reckon Wednesday or Thursday next week? 1st June ish?

Knowing the way it usually goes it won`t be till the middle of June! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif I think most us know not to get too excited with predicted times of the Patch... or how big it may be... or what`ll fix/add.. or...

Are those two people in that cockpit? Is this a trainer or something?

I was looking at sukhoi.ru with babelfish and in the il2 forums in a thread called something like pictures of work in progress I saw some new screenshots of the J2M (the armoured glass was not yellow).
I also saw a screenshot from the Mosquitos cockpit of one of the new Spitfire MkV's on the desert map.
The were also some high resolution models of the I-16 (to BoB standard?).
One of the last was what looked like the inside of the bombaimers station on a glazed nose A-20.

It is not easy navigating through babelfish but you can see some interesting things.

As far as I remember, SaQSoN said last week that the J2M3 was completed some time ago, but will likely not appear in 4.0. Maybe 4.01? Was not in the "leaked" 2+ month old 4.0 readme either.

Who knows really.....I guess we will find out in about 7-10 days....There are about a 2 dozen+ aircrafts that are completed or just about completed (appart from what was in the leaked readme) and that have been rummored to be added in 4.0 or later patch as many know.......

J2M3
Nate
Claude
Ju 88 up to 7 variants
G.55/Re. 2001/Mc. 200-202-205.....
CW-21
Fokker 21
Avia
Letov

......

Count me in for a Ju 88C-6a flyable!

Here are some screenshots of the Raiden cockpit that SaQSoN posted on aviaforum.ru recently. These are the same that One13 mentions in his reply above.

Something is happening with the Raiden but whether the activity adds up to an additional flyable PF aircraft I don't know.

- and for a change of pace -

here's a classy Raiden model made out of wood...

I hope that they tweak the FM of that plane before it's released as flyable. It's god awfull as it is now. I have set myself up alone against 6 of them in a hellcat, and downed all 6 without taking one bullet!

Somebody put a LOT of work in this cockpit. I really hope it will be added somehow to the game, sooner or later. Good or not, effective or not, this plane would be welcomed addition to current IJN arsenal.

If that cockpit makes it into the game it'll replace the Tony's as my alltime favourite cockpit to gawk at while being shot to pieces by everyone else on the map.

Seriously...beautiful.

Good work SaQSoN http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

If there's work of that calibre still going into PF, then I doubt 4.00 is the last patch coming out (or perhaps an AEP for PF?)

Good work SaQSoN
It's not me. The model is built by one of my suborditane modellers. I only slightly edited it.

Be sure.(c) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
But, I wouldn't hope for something, like AEP for PF. I'd rather believe in a joint commercial add-on for merged install, consisting from all those "Russian CD add-ons", somewhere by the end of the year (my pure speculation http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

Great work http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

too low.

Bah harryklein! Busted http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

By the way, did the Raiden really have the gunsight in front of the armoured glass? That must have been a nightmare for ground crews or to adjust in flight.

Sure. Do you really think, we would do it wrong on purpose? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

That's exhactly how it is on the war-time and museum photos.

Ooooh, I can hear the voices now:

"Oleg!!! The Raiden is overmodelled!!! There's no way the pilot could maintain his eye on the target while still struggling to adjust the gunsight behind the armored glass!!!"

I made a mistake, it's no the gunsight that is too low, but the top part of the cockpit that is too high, I hope the modeler can fix it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.
Anyway Great work !!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

That does look like a problem.

Might want to double check that, SaQson.

What kind of lens was used to take that photograph? It looks like a wide angle... and if so there's all kinds of perspective distortion involved in that image.

Skyraider3D
05-25-2005, 10:41 AM
It's not a mistake and neither is it perspective distortion. I think it's much simpler: the guy that made the photo doesn't have a parachute under his behind and thus is seated much lower than an actual pilot would.
Having said that... Did Japanese pilots actually have parachutes? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

SaQSoN

Skyraider is partially right. The shot of the 3D model is made from "Pilot View" camera, which is positioned slightly higher then "Gunsight View". The GS view in the game will look more like the photo, however, giving less overall visibility due to lower camera position.

Even though, there still may be some inaccuracy in relative positions of gunsight, windshield and other cockpit parts, nothing will be changed.
Nothing is perfect. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

PS By the way, in the J2M3 and N1K2-J the pilot was sitting on a cussion and the parachute bag was stored inside the seat back (similary to the Fw-190).

I've spent some time living in Japan and have the scars to prove it... try walking down the middle of a Japanese commuter train at 6 foot 1 and you'll see what I mean. Japan is not set up for tall people.

I just imagine the average IJN pilot was smaller than the average USN pilot. The height difference would compensate for a lack of parachute if the photographer was an average westerner.

Regards, Goshikisen.

@SaQSoN : héhé it's better to have Raiden cockpit with some
inaccuracy than no cockpit at all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ... (but please try to raise the GS just a bit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif )

note: the GS on the right is not the same model than the GS on the left.

I was pretty skeptical about getting all these planes once Oleg said awhile back that the patch will only be around 100 or so megabytes.

That could change but to include EVERYTHING in this new patch included the maps and all the new objects would probably be at least a 250-300 meg endeavor.

I don't care if we don't get everything in this next patch. Getting 3 new maps and 4 or 5 new flyable planes is plenty with the upgraded flight model, fixes and all the new objects. I just hope we DO get everything.

those two pilots in the "cockpit" are quite chummy with each other. take a look at how each has their hand on the others knees.
