The sound was the only real thing about this patch that i was looking forward to & i can't hear any difference, I still hear gun sounds from miles away, Mysterious flak & my favorite is on a runway full of 262's for a brief moment i hear piston engines starting up, I interpreted the "NEW" sound files to mean that we would only hear our own engines & maybe our own guns being fired (& not that loudly), I hope this is fixed for the pay add-on. If this has been posted before i apologise but it's been very difficult to access these boards since yesterday & we all know how good the search engine is.

Well, I have experienced that "Machine gun right next to you" thing everyone is complaining about, and I have to say, it scares you the first time you hear it. Is this issue a bug or not?

Thats what i'd like to know, Even worse than the MG sound is the VERY VERY loud crack of AAA that scares the crap outta me, I got surround sound speakers & this sounds like a crack of thunder, I'm worried about my speakers blowing out

Yeah, I almost died of a heart attack here!!!
Anyway what do you guys think of the AI?

like the sound, I think its just the same old lunatic AI we have with 1.21, both friendly and ennemy

I have heard the loud mg sounds too, but it is harder to hear enemy planes behind you (in fact I often hear nothing before theyre on me).

Oleg, I think the problem is ONLINE based. I do not know the specifics of how sound is programmed, but I never experienced the loud bangs (in 1.11) or the mgs sound (1.21) when offline. But there it is when i go on.

Perhaps you need to see if there is a significance between the online games and this recurring sound problem.....

There is no difference of offline or online here.

This is about the 3D sound engine.

Make a track and send it to me describing when and how far you were away from the object that was so loud.

I also posted in technical support.

When I view TheBlackDeath track the flak with the yellow tracers (sounds like HMG) is audible as though you are right there with the gun, no matter where you are in relation to it (this with default views/time compression).

Where is this track?

I will send to Oleg to show him

We are speaking of sounds quality - or at least I'm not. Speaking of hearing external gunfire and aircraft engines from afar.

TheBlackDeath track is in the game, many of us use it for fps benchmarking.

To stop this gun fire appearing with no one around or enabling the ability to hear the plane arriving on your six could we just copy the 1.11 sound files back ? would that work as they were ok for me - shame but I cant have 'fake' sound happenening when flying from the ghost planes /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

It's worse.

I was using the test sound file in 1.2RC which fixed most of the "Freaky" sounds. Now the patch version is worse than the fisrt version. I hear machine gun fire from outside my plane but no one is there. It seems the sound was another player shooting at someone else approx. 8KM away.

I do not hear bullets hitting my plane and the gun noises of my own plane had to turned way down so I didn't blow my ears off.

This patch sucks.

I found the beta sound just as bad. Last night I was checking my six in a panic frequently hearing engine noises on my tail from planes that didn't exist. Eventually I just stopped checking and then guess what? I was bounched by a real one /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

For full real servers it's even more a pain I was thinking this guy behind me was very very good he was sticking to me like glue and hiding in my Bf 109 G2 blind spot, I was sweating buckets! But he didn't exist!

I made a short track from a mission i just flew, I was flying the 262 & all the prop planes were way ahead of me about 2000m ahead or more & i could hear faint prop sounds in my cockpit & as i got closer (about 1000m) i could hear MG fire, You should not be able to hear these sounds at such distances, I thought this was what they were going to correct in the 1.21 patch?

Same here with external MG sounds. Flying along with no AC within 1 KM of mine, someone opens fire many KMs away from me and I hear MG "ratta-tat-tat" just like the MG is right inside my cockpit. Other than that "minor annoyance", I do like the sounds in 1.21.

On the plus side, since the sound is so buggy (and engine sounds so lame) in FB, I've not been compelled to upgrade the sound card on my rig, and I'm happy to just use the on-board AC97 sound built into the motherboard /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

i thought it was the german sdkfz251, The armoured yellow half track. It is the only AA you can here from miles away for me. Test it, when as vehicle or arty it shoots at enemy planes and noise travels WAY EXCESSIVELY.

Think rest is ok really. Could this be fixed with a small sound .dll file or would we need bigger fix?

It has been around a while I think. Most online map makers have been forced to remove the half track from their maps! Dunno if oleg know though, someone must have told him.

Hi Jace11,

"i thought it was the german sdkfz251, The armoured yellow half track. It is the only AA you can here from miles away for me. Test it, when as vehicle or arty it shoots at enemy planes and noise travels WAY EXCESSIVELY."

To confirm, I've the same trouble. (The Quick Mission Smolensk map features one of these vehicles in its armour attack scenario, so it's easy to verify.) The sound doesn't seem to be processed through the usual spatial effects, leaving the impression it's emanating from within one's own cockpit.

I've tried replacing the current sound .dll with a few different older ones but each prevented the game from starting.

Cheers,

Greg

Sound in 1.21 for me is totally perfect other than this bug. The Soviet BA-64 also does this for me too.

Oleg recently posted that there have been such major changes in sound processing that one should not expect the DLLs to work between 1.21 and other versions. Also hinted at further changes in the pipeline.

To the Dev Team:
I find v1.21 to be really nice with the new planes and maps, and the changes made to sound and airplane models (especially the P-40, mmm...).

I DO however have one thing I'd like to report (I'm sure others have too). I can now hear the machineguns in the pill boxes from several kilometers away when flying.

If this could be fixed I'd be happy as a clam, 'cause right now my heart starts racing when I hear machineguns that sound like they're right outside my plane. Thanks in advance, and thanks for an excellent sim!

It was the job of the beta testers and the quality control of the developer to find out this obvious sound bugs ! what had they done instead?

They did their job. With 1.2 RC there was an alternative "mg_snd_.dll" file which worked great. I for one had NO problems with that. It even solved the "big bang" (ship AAA, artillery loudness) bug. But somehow it seems to me they put the old one into the final patch which had all these bugs. But FB 1.21 refuses that nice dll which worked so well in RC01. It will come up with an error message when I try this file.

EDIT: Awwww this forum suxx, even basic UBB codes don't work... ^^ another try:

How about the Audigy sound bug with extensions enabled and relatively recent drivers (which are generally better)? That should be fixed too...too many live with that problem (ie. the bad cockpit mega-echo).
