View Full Version : I was never happy with the Singapore map...

...but a quick look at a library book reveals just how poorly it was made.

Btw, while I've highlighted supposedly major roads that are omitted, I've no idea whether those actually on the in-game map ever existed. In some cases I suspect not.

The phantom bridge over the Selat Johor, the missing railway into Singapore and the omission of the Naval Base are quite amazing for a commercial product IMHO. As for the names... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Cheers!

IMO accuracy isnt as important with maps, as say adaptability and good looks.

Sadly I have to agree. Houses sitting in the middle of roads, like one programmer came in and placed roadways and on the next shift a programmer who had had a little too much "fun" the night before came in and blindly added the buildings. Overall inaccuracies but more important, how poorly Singapore itself is done.
I know these type of errors exist even in the FB maps but they tend to be in out of the way places or on map edges.
To me it says that the final PF product was rushed without the usual careful attention to detail Oleg is famous for.

Yeah, it's pretty terrible. Most of the "rivers" on ity are probably 2m across in RL, and in the 40s were covered over with trees. It shares most of the problems of PF maps. No research, no lateral thinking in the use of the map builder (in stark contrast to the new maps we're seeing shots of now), and a general lack of any "sense of the place."

Yup, this was discussed, and I did some research myself, and came up with glaring ommissions and mistakes in this map, mainly in and around Singapore city, with the missing naval base, and airfields, and roads, and the huge artillery guns facing the sea, etc, and really badly constructed cityscape.

Not to mention that this map is only good for two weeks of operations!!! Singapore fell after two weeks!! So what exactly was the point of having this map developed??

I agree also. Might as well be a fictional map as it has no real unique landscape or landmarks that would give the feeling of being in Singapore. Very, very boring.

Also begs the question...

why not a slot map instead.???

Definately not done for the Western Market.

We can't have a Slot map because, according to some people, no one would want the long flight times. Just take a look at this thread:

I'd have preffered Lae/Nadzab over Singapore.
BTW, it was added in a patch wasn't it? Not in 3.0m.
